Abstract

The conservation of Pteridophyta presents ongoing challenges that call for educational institutions to strengthen students' critical thinking and data literacy skills. However, conventional learning media have proven insufficient in supporting meaningful understanding of this complex topic, creating a gap between instructional intent and student outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the learning media needs of both teachers and students as an empirical foundation for developing innovative instructional solutions. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, involving 20 biology teachers from the Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru areas and 17 Grade XI MIA students from SMA Sabilal Muhtadin, SMK ISFI, and SMAN 3 Banjarmasin during the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through needs assessment instruments and analyzed to identify patterns in media use, student comprehension, and instructional preferences. The findings revealed a notable gap between teachers' perceptions of their media as engaging and students' actual conceptual understanding, which remained suboptimal. Students expressed a strong need for dynamic, interactive visual media to improve concept retention, comprehension, and learning motivation. These results indicate an urgent need for a pocket book featuring rich, meaningful visualizations as a practical and accessible instructional solution. This study provides a robust empirical foundation for future media development efforts aimed at significantly enhancing student engagement and conceptual mastery in biodiversity.Abstrak. Tantangan konservasi Pteridophyta menuntut peran aktif lembaga pendidikan dalam membangun kapasitas berpikir kritis dan literasi data siswa. Namun, media pembelajaran konvensional terbukti belum mampu mendukung pemahaman yang bermakna pada topik yang kompleks ini, sehingga menciptakan kesenjangan antara tujuan pembelajaran dan capaian siswa secara nyata. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kebutuhan media pembelajaran dari sudut pandang guru dan siswa sebagai landasan empiris bagi pengembangan solusi instruksional yang inovatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, melibatkan 20 guru Biologi di wilayah Banjarmasin dan Banjarbaru serta 17 siswa kelas XI MIA dari SMA Sabilal Muhtadin, SMK ISFI, dan SMAN 3 Banjarmasin pada tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Data dikumpulkan melalui instrumen analisis kebutuhan dan dianalisis untuk mengidentifikasi pola penggunaan media, tingkat pemahaman siswa, dan preferensi pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan kesenjangan yang signifikan antara persepsi guru mengenai daya tarik media yang mereka gunakan dengan pemahaman konseptual siswa yang masih belum optimal. Siswa sangat membutuhkan media visual yang dinamis dan interaktif guna meningkatkan pemahaman konsep, retensi materi, dan motivasi belajar. Temuan ini menunjukkan adanya kebutuhan mendesak untuk mengembangkan buku saku dengan visualisasi yang kaya dan bermakna sebagai solusi pembelajaran yang praktis dan mudah diakses. Penelitian ini menyediakan landasan empiris yang kuat bagi upaya pengembangan media di masa mendatang yang bertujuan meningkatkan keterlibatan dan penguasaan konseptual siswa dalam pembelajaran keanekaragaman hayati secara signifikan.

Abstract

Students’ biology learning outcomes in Indonesia remain suboptimal, as reflected in the 2022 PISA and the 2024 National Assessment. Internal factors such as metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy, and learning motivation are believed to play a significant role in determining students’ academic achievement. This study aims to analyze the relationship between metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy, and learning motivation on the biology learning outcomes of 11th-grade students at public high schools in Maros Regency. The study employs a quantitative approach with an ex-post facto design involving 261 students selected through area random sampling. Data were collected using a combination of adapted and researcher developed questionnaires and multiple choice tests based on higher order thinking skills. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression. The results indicated that all three independent variables fell into the moderate category, while learning outcomes were in the adequate category. Both partially and simultaneously, metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy, and learning motivation demonstrated a positive and significant relationship with biology learning outcomes, contributing a combined 63.9%. Metacognitive awareness was the dominant predictor with a contribution value of 37.4%. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating aspects of metacognition, self-efficacy, and motivation into learning strategies to improve the quality of students’ learning outcomes.Abstrak. Hasil belajar biologi peserta didik di Indonesia masih belum optimal, sebagaimana tercermin dalam PISA 2022 dan Asesmen Nasional 2024. Faktor internal seperti kesadaran metakognisi, efikasi diri, dan motivasi belajar diyakini berperan penting dalam menentukan capaian akademik peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis hubungan kesadaran metakognisi, efikasi diri, dan motivasi belajar terhadap hasil belajar biologi peserta didik kelas XI SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Maros. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain ex-post facto yang melibatkan 261 peserta didik yang ditentukan melalui rumus slovin dan dipilih melalui area random sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kombinasi angket adaptasi dan pengembangan, serta tes pilihan ganda berbasis kemampuan berikir tingkat tinggi (HOTS). Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif, analisis korelasi, dan regresi linear berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketiga variabel bebas berada pada kategori sedang dan hasil belajar berada pada kategori cukup. Secara parsial maupun simultan, kesadaran metakognisi, efikasi diri, dan motivasi belajar memiliki hubungan positif dan signifikan dengan hasil belajar biologi dengan kontribusi bersama sebesar 63,9%. Kesadaran metakognisi menjadi prediktor dominan dengan nilai kontribusi sebesar 37,4%. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya pengintegrasian aspek metakognisi, efikasi diri, dan motivasi dalam strategi pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kualitas hasil belajar peserta didik.

Abstract

Enhancing higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in science education poses a difficulty due to the limitation of digital teaching resources focused on local environmental issues that facilitate students’ abilities in analysis (C4), evaluation (C5), and creation (C6). The novelty in its examination of a digital textbook addressing the Jetis Sidoarjo batik waste issue as a contextual medium to enhance HOTS in the C4, C5, and C6 indicators. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a digital science textbook based on Socioscientific Issues (SSI) in enhancing students’ HOTS. This research specifically examines: the validity of the SSI-based digital science textbook, the enhancement of students’ HOTS after using the digital textbook, and the disparities in student learning results between digital and conventional textbooks. This research uses a quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control-group design. The research instruments comprise a HOTS test, expert validation forms, and documentation of learning results. The findings indicate that the developed digital textbook has valid criteria and very high quality. The experimental class’ N-Gain score of 0.72 is in the high category, indicating that the use of digital textbook is effective in improving students’ HOTS. The experimental class showed higher improvements than the control class in the C4, C5, and C6 indicators. The integration of the Jetis Sidoarjo batik waste issue encouraged students to actively analyze, evaluate, and propose solutions to environmental problems in their surrounding context. These findings suggest that SSI-based digital teaching materials can be an effective pedagogical alternative to facilitate contextual science learning and fostering HOTS.Abstrak. Penguatan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi (HOTS) masih menjadi tantangan dalam pembelajaran IPA karena bahan ajar digital berbasis isu lingkungan lokal yang mengajarkan siswa pada proses analisis, evaluasi, dan kreasi masih terbatas. Kebaruan penelitian terletak pada pengujian buku ajar digital berbasis isu limbah batik Jetis Sidoarjo sebagai media kontekstual untuk meningkatkan HOTS pada indikator analisis (C4), evaluasi (C5), dan kreasi (C6). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengkaji efektivitas buku ajar digital IPA berbasis Socioscientific Issues (SSI) untuk meningkatkan HOTS siswa. Secara khusus, penelitian ini mendeskripsikan: validitas buku digital IPA berbasis SSI, peningkatan HOTS siswa setelah menggunakan buku digital, dan perbedaan hasil belajar siswa pada penggunaan buku digital dan buku teks konvensional. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent pretest-posttest control-group. Instrumen penelitian meliputi tes HOTS, lembar validasi ahli, dan dokumentasi hasil belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa buku digital yang dikembangkan memenuhi kriteria valid dan memiliki kualitas yang sangat tinggi. Skor N-Gain kelas eksperimen sebesar 0.72 berada pada kategori tinggi yang mengindikasikan penggunaan buku ajar digital efektif dalam meningkatkan HOTS siswa. Kelas eksperimen menunjukkan peningkatan lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol pada indikator C4), C5, dan C6.  Integrasi isu limbah batik Jetis Sidoarjo mendorong siswa untuk secara aktif menganalisis, mengevaluasi, dan mengusulkan solusi terhadap permasalahan lingkungan di sekitar mereka. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa bahan ajar digital berbasis SSI dapat menjadi alternatif pedagogis yang efektif untuk mendorong pembelajaran sains yang kontekstual dan mengembangkan HOTS siswa.

Abstract

Learning interest and learning outcomes are important indicators of educational quality. This study aimed to analyze the relationships of social environment, learning discipline, and learning facilities with students’ learning interest and learning outcomes. The novelty of this study lies in examining these three factors simultaneously in relation to both learning interest and learning outcomes in biology learning. A quantitative correlational approach was employed involving 269 grade XI students of public senior high schools in Sidrap Regency selected through area random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and documentation and analyzed using simple and multiple regression. The results showed that all independent variables had positive and significant relationships with learning interest and learning outcomes (p < 0.05). Learning discipline showed the strongest relationship with learning interest (R² = 0.623), while learning facilities had the strongest relationship with learning outcomes (R² = 0.713). Simultaneously, the three variables explained 41.4% of the variance in learning interest and 88.8% of the variance in learning outcomes. These findings highlight the importance of social, behavioral, and facility-related factors in supporting students’ interest and achievement in biology learning. Abstrak. Minat belajar dan hasil belajar merupakan indikator penting kualitas pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis hubungan lingkungan sosial, disiplin belajar, dan fasilitas belajar dengan minat belajar serta hasil belajar siswa. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada pengkajian ketiga faktor tersebut secara simultan terhadap minat belajar dan hasil belajar biologi siswa. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif korelasional pada 269 siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Sidrap yang dipilih melalui teknik area random sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan angket dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis dengan regresi sederhana dan regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa seluruh variabel independen memiliki hubungan positif dan signifikan dengan minat belajar dan hasil belajar (p < 0,05). Disiplin belajar memiliki hubungan paling kuat dengan minat belajar (R² = 0,623), sedangkan fasilitas belajar memiliki hubungan paling kuat dengan hasil belajar (R² = 0,713). Secara simultan, ketiga variabel menjelaskan 41,4% variasi minat belajar dan 88,8% variasi hasil belajar. Temuan ini menunjukkan pentingnya faktor sosial, perilaku belajar, dan fasilitas pembelajaran dalam mendukung minat dan hasil belajar biologi siswa.
