Abstract

The objective of the study was to apply and to test the HBV subtropical model into a tropical region Batang Arau watershed Padang. Batang Arau watershed, located in Padang, covers an area of 106 km2. The HBV model was manually calibrated by trial adjustment of each parameter to obtain the appropriate physical characteristics of Batang Arau watershed. The study shows that the correlation coefficient of 0.48 and the value of NSE at 0.58. The value indicates the HBV modeling included in the category of accuracy being and indicated that HBV built models can not simulate the discharge of DAS Batang Arau quite well and can not be used to represent the real situation in DAS Batang Arau Padang. Although DAS Batang Padang Harau included in a small basin, but the model of HBV have not been able to describe the phenomenon that is properly due to the diversity of topography.Key words: Model HBV hydrology, watershed Batang Arau, the diversity of topography

Abstract

Two endophytic fungal phytases is isolated from leaf, stem and root fragments collected from soybean and identified as Rhizoctonia sp. and Fusarium verticillioides. The phytase production was induced by phytate in medium used. The crude preparations were used in subsequent characterisation studies, pH and temperature optima and compared to other phytases tested, and is thus a promosing candidate for animal feed applications. This particular phytase retains activity over a wide range pH value characteristic of the digestive tract and could conceivably be more suited to increasingly hinger feed processing temperatures being today, than corresponding phytase from Aspergillus niger.   Key words: Endophytic fungal phytase, soybean, Rhizoctonia sp., Fusarium verticillioides, characterisation

Abstract

Amylose content of rice is one of the variables that determine the quality of rice. Although Solok considered a first-class rice-producing areas inWest Sumatra, but a stable varieties will produce amylose content is relatively similar across all planting sites, so it can be cultivated in various regions. The study was conducted at 3 locations lowland rice production centers inWest Sumaterathat is Solok, Bukittiggi and Pariaman. The research design used at each location is randomized block design with 3 replications. The treatment consisted of 5 varieties of rice that is Cisokan, Anak daro, Randah-kuniang, Kuriak kusuik and Saratuih hari. The results showed that the five varieties tested showed a stable amylose content.Key words: stability, amylose, rice, west sumatera

Abstract

Research about Sperm Production Pattern of Lesser Brown Horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus stheno): Microchiroptera in Indarung cave, Padang had. This research was using descriptive method toward testes preparation of Lesser Brown Horseshoe bat with using Hematoxilin-Eosin staining to observe the presence of spermatozoa. The result showed that the spermatogenesis activity on January until April 2007 was inactive, because there was no spermatozoa and seminiferous tubules epithelium only consisted of spermatogonium and spermatocytes. Spermatogenesis activity was started on May and spermatozoa had been released on June. R. stheno follows the bimmodally polyestrus reproduction pattern based on the hypothetical diagram that constructed as supporting mean for this statement.Key words: sperm production, lesser brown horseshoe bat

Abstract

This research aims at studying the effect of temperature and calcination duration on characteristic of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC). Limestone was converted in to PCC by using recarbonation method through calcinations, hydration and carbonation processes. Spesifically, calcination temperature had something to do with duration of lime stone to drive off CO2. Based on the analysis of physical properties, the size of particle PCC resulted on temperature 1100 0C with the surface area 30,96 ?m2/g was smaller than one on 800 0C, 900 0C, 1000 0C And the percentage of its optical properties namely brithness was 94,9% and whiteness was 91,1 %. The XRF analysis showed that PCC had high purity level with CaO content 56 %. Then the XRD analysis showed that the PCC crystal was in the form of calcite.Key words: temperature, calcination precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC)

Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the concentration of corn flour added the star fruit jam in order to increase its quality. This was an experiment designed randomly (RAL) with five treatments and three trials consisting of different concentration of corn flour addition, that is: A (0%), B (5%), C (10%), D (15%), and E (20%). The analysis, conducted after letting the jam remain in 48 hours, focused on the level of water and sugar, as well as organoleptic tests on the level of color, flavor, aroma, and texture. As the result, the addition of corn flour with different concentration effects obviously on the quality of the star fruit jam. The highly qualified jam was found at the treatment B (corn flour concentration 5%) with water level 30.05%, sugar 63.75% and organoleptically accepted.Key words: maizena, quality of corn flour

Abstract

Indo-Australian plate subduction on the Eurasian Plate took place on an ongoing and has formed active tectonics and volcanism on Mentawai andSumatrafault. The level of tectonic activity of this region can be learned through activities plate subduction under subduction velocity, angle of subduction and depth of subduction. An objective of fundamental research is to determine the pattern of the Indo-Australian plate subduction on the Eurasian plate. This research uses secondary data records form the earthquake inWest Sumatrain 1900 until 2005 which is available on BMG Padang Panjang. The speed and angle plate subduction are calculated using the formula of Le Pichon. The research shows that the average angle subduction of the Indo-Australian plate on the Eurasian plate and the surrounding area of West Sumatraare 31.330 with a speed relative subduction average of 6.32 cm / year and the velocity of the normal line is 4.93 cm / year.Key words: subduction, plate, indo-australia, eurasia

Abstract

Diarrhea is the second biggest cause of infant death in Indonesia.  Diarrhea can caused by several factors, one of them is bacteria.  The most common bacteria which cause diarrhea are Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp.  The common treatment for the diarrhea victim uses synthetic antibiotic.  Unfortunately, it gives side effect such as; fever, allergic, headache and resistance to strain microbe.  Therefore the alternative treatment which does not cause side effect to the diarrhea victim is using antibiotic from plant need to be found immediately.  One of them is using the extract from leave of morinda (Morinda citrifolia L.). Thus this research had been conducted in order to find out morinda leave extract in restricting  the growth of E. coli and Salmonella sp.  This research was conducted on Desember 2010 in Biology Laboratory of Biology department of STKIP PGRI West Sumatera. Experiment design is randomized completely design with six treatment and four replication.  Treatment A used Amoxicilin and treatment B used morinda leave extract with level of concentration15 %, C 20 %, D 25 %, E 30 % and F 35 %. The method paper diffusion used to determine the diameter of inhibition area of morinda leave extract. The data was analyzed with ANOVA and continued with least significant different test with p<0.05.  The result showed that mengkudu leave extract can decrease the growth of E. coli and Salmonella sp bacteria where Salmonella sp is more sensitive than E. coli.Key words: diarrhea, escherichia  coli, salmonella sp, morinda leave extract, amoxicilin
