Abstract

Chili pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) is a highly valuable vegetable horticultural commodity widely cultivated in Indonesia. Based on data from the Sidrap Statistics Agency (BPS) (2025), there was a decline in chili pepper production in Sidenreng Rappang Regency from 2023 to 2024. Chili pepper production can be significantly increased by improving the cultivation system through a more environmentally friendly approach, one of which is by using natural ingredients such as moringa leaf extract and rice washing water. The use of local organic materials such as moringa leaf extract and rice washing water offers a sustainable solution to increase the growth and production of chili pepper plants, which have the potential to be an alternative source of organic nutrients for plants. This study aims to analyze the effect of several formulations of moringa leaf extract and rice washing water on the growth and production of chili pepper plants. The design of this study used a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 6 treatments, namely P0 (Control), P1 (100% rice washing water), P2 (75% Moringa leaf extract), P3 (80% Moringa leaf extract), P4 (75% Moringa leaf extract + 25% rice washing water), and P5 (80% Moringa leaf extract + 20% rice washing water) where each treatment was repeated 3 times, so there were 18 experimental units, and in each unit consisted of 2 plant samples. So, a total of 36 plant samples. The results showed that the administration of moringa leaf extract and rice washing water treatment did not significantly affect most of the observation parameters of cayenne pepper growth and production, namely plant height, number of leaves, flowering age, harvest age, fruit weight per plant per harvest, number of fruits per plant, fruit and stalk length, fruit diameter, and production. The treatment had a very significant effect only on fruit length. Treatment P5 (80% moringa leaf extract + 20% rice washing water) produced the lowest fruit length.

Abstract

Banjar District is a dryland area in Buleleng Regency covering approximately 10.938,58 ha, and is dominated by Regosol soil. The topography is varied, with slope gradients ranging from 15 – 40 %. This study aims to classify land capability classes and their distribution, identify the main limiting factors, and establish land-use guidelines based on land capability. The research process began with an overlay to determine the land capability class, followed by field surveys, soil sampling, and laboratory analysis. The results indicate that land capability classes are divided into three categories: Class III (Munduk village A, Banyuatis village, Tirtasari village, and Munduk village C), Class IV (Gesing village, Gobleg village A, Munduk village B, and Sidetapa Village), Class VI (Tigawasa village). Slope gradient and erosion levels were the most dominant limiting factors. Based on the scoring results, land use guidelines consist of buffer zones with a score of 140 – 160, found in Gesing village, Munduk village A, Gobleg village A, Munduk village B, Banyuatis village, Tirtasari village, and Munduk village C. Perennial crop cultivation with a score of 110 is found in Tigawasa village, Gobleg village B, and Sidetapa village. The higher the land capability class, the greater the constraints involved, so its use is more focused on conservation functions to ensure environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Rice is an important food commodity in Indonesia, and tungro disease is one of the diseases that can affect rice production. Nitrogen fertilization is an important factor in rice growth and may also be associated with tungro disease severity. This study aimed to evaluate the response of tungro disease severity, disease incidence, plant height, and number of tillers of Mekongga rice to different nitrogen doses. The study was conducted at the BRMP Lanrang Greenhouse, Sidenreng Rappang Regency, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor consisting of four nitrogen treatments: N0 = control (0 g N/clump), N1 = 0.75 g N/clump, N2 = 1.00 g N/clump, and N3 = 1.25 g N/clump, with four replications, resulting in 16 experimental units. The results showed that, descriptively, the 1.25 g N/clump nitrogen treatment produced the lowest disease severity index (DSI), at 4.0, the lowest disease incidence (DI), at 75%, and the highest number of tillers, at 6.5 tillers. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that nitrogen application did not significantly affect disease incidence, plant height, or number of tillers

Abstract

This study aims to develop a botanical pesticide derived from maja (bael) fruit (Aegle marmelos) and to evaluate its potential as an environmentally friendly biopesticide, with a focus on product potential and formulation characterization. Product development was carried out at Karassik and the efficacy test at Kandeapi, North Toraja Regency, Sulawesi Selatan (700 m asl), from June to October 2025. The pesticide was prepared by fermenting 20 kg of maja fruit flesh in 60 L of water with 5 L of 70% alcohol for 24 h, then filtered and formulated at concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% (P1–P4) against an untreated control (P0). The efficacy test used a single-factor randomized block design (RBD) with five treatments and three replications (15 plots, 90 plants). No growth parameters were assessed in order to focus the analysis on pesticide development; only production variables were observed over three harvests: number of fruit per plant, single-fruit weight, fruit weight per plant, and fruit weight per plot. Data were analyzed by ANOVA followed by the LSD test at 5%, and production feasibility was evaluated through the R/C ratio, break-even point (BEP), and return on investment (ROI). Results showed that the 15% treatment (P3) significantly gave the highest production — 4.90 fruit/plant and 17.00 g/fruit (harvest 2), 45.44 g/plant, and 153.67 g/plot — differing significantly from all other treatments. The economics of production were feasible, with an R/C ratio of 1.08, a BEP of 50 bottles (500 mL) and 71 bottles (250 mL), and an ROI of 10.81%. The maja fruit pesticide is therefore worth developing and offers promising potential as an economically viable, marketable, and environmentally friendly biopesticide. Quantitative chemical characterization (total alkaloid, total flavonoid, total phenol, GC-MS profile) and a pest mortality/LC50 bioassay are recommended as follow-up research.

Abstract

National cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) productivity currently faces fluctuations due to aging plantations and climate change, making the availability of high-quality seedlings a primary priority. This study aimed to evaluate the growth response of cocoa seedlings to the application of sago pulp bokashi as an organic ameliorant in the growing medium. The research was conducted at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Marine Sciences, Ottow Geissler University of Papua, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The experiment consisted of five bokashi dosage treatments (A0: control, A1: 200 g, A2: 250 g, A3: 300 g, and A4: 350 g per polybag), each replicated six times. Observed parameters included plant height, leaf number, leaf length, leaf width, and stem diameter at 72 Days After Planting (DAP). The results showed that sago pulp bokashi application significantly affected plant height, with the 300 g/polybag dosage (A3) yielding the optimal result of 41.61 cm. Furthermore, bokashi application tended to increase leaf length and width compared to the control. Although leaf number and stem diameter did not show statistically significant differences, there was a positive numerical growth trend observed with increasing bokashi dosages. In conclusion, the application of sago pulp bokashi at a dosage of 300 g/polybag is effective in enhancing the vegetative vigor of cocoa seedlings. This technology offers an innovative, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solution for agro-industrial waste management to support the sustainable production of high-quality cocoa seedlings

Abstract

Celery (Apium graveolens L.) is a leafy vegetable widely cultivated and has considerable potential to be developed using hydroponic systems. The wick hydroponic system utilizes a wick as a channel to deliver nutrient solutions to the plant roots, while the growing media play an important role in retaining water, nutrients, and oxygen for plant growth. This study aimed to determine the effect of various growing media compositions on the growth and yield of celery in a wick hydroponic system. The research was conducted in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan, from February 12 to May 11, 2024, using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five growing media treatments: A = rice husk charcoal, B = cocopeat, C = rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (1:3), D = rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (1:1), and E = rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (3:1). The observed variables included plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, fresh weight, shoot weight, root weight, shoot–root ratio, and plant dry weight. The results showed that the use of cocopeat, rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (1:3), and rice husk charcoal:cocopeat (1:1), each at 400 g, produced the best results in terms of fresh weight and shoot weight of celery plants. In addition, the application of rice husk charcoal, cocopeat, rice husk charcoal: cocopeat (1:3), and rice husk charcoal: cocopeat (1:1) increased the number of leaves. Therefore, the combination of rice husk charcoal and cocopeat has the potential to support the growth and yield of celery in a wick hydroponic system.
