Abstract

In the 4.0 era, many industries combine technology such as the world of design where AI and VR are widely used for reasoning, exploration, visualization, and design innovation. The use of AI and VR in the field of architecture is not something new, previously the theory of AI was discovered in 1956 by Mccarthy and was created to produce intermediate information parameters by imitating the statistical distribution of the information presented as a result of changing options, this concept is the core paradigm from AI and VR theory. Many architecture firms struggle to combine enterprise architecture and technology creation for business strategy. AI and VR can reduce design and development time by as much as 10% and 7%, also minimizes errors that occur in projects by 90%. The research aims to prove that AI and VR help make decisions in the planning and design stages through mixed methods, namely qualitative as a literature study to analyze the use of AI and VR in architecture and quantitative with surveys to analyze interest and feasibility. Based on validated literature, it’s evident that AI and VR advancements are poised to significantly benefit architectural firms by aiding in decision-making, minimizing risks and costs through visualization and calculations, as supported by a survey of 40 architects across 4 bureaus, indicating their crucial role in both current and future architectural practices, with potential to garner substantial market interest, revolutionizing design innovation and efficiency. Abstract

The necessity for spatial planning will rise with the population of humans. As a result, the interior business will expand and encounter more rivals where differentiation is required in this industry. The purpose of this research is to determine whether applying the sense of place theme to the interior design consulting business may provide a competitiveadvantage in this industry. Methods of this research were qualitative inquiry, and data was gathered through observations and literature studies. Observations were conducted at various similar consultancies, while literature studies were conducted through textbooks and related journals. Triangulation took place with expert validation in business design. The results supported the conclusions about problems and opportunities. The need for suppliers, other actors in the value chain, and stakeholders is the problem in industry analysis, while the globalization-related problem in market forces separates society into two main groups: those who are more interested in global culture and those who are more interested in preserving and developing local culture. In key trends, it is found that the collapse of regional social and cultural norms in Indonesia is a result of globalization. This problem provides opportunities for interior design consultants who emphasize sense of place theme to have an advantage in this industry. After conducting the industry analysis, there are opportunities to work with related parties who want to develop local culture. Thus the results prove that sense of place has been proven to be a competitive advantage in the interior design consulting business. Abstract

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) presents a transformative opportunity for architects seeking to achieve sustainable design goals. AI’s ability to extract and analyze vast amounts of data during the pre-design, design and construction, and post-construction phases empowers architects to make data-driven decisions that optimize building performance. This data can provide strategies for material selection, time and energy efficiency, and resource management, ultimately contributing to the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through building design. This research explores the specific applications of artificial intelligence in sustainable building design. To achieve this objective, a systematic literature review and case study analysis were conducted, utilizing academic journals and article reports as primary data sources. Specific keywords were employed to narrow the scope of the research. The analysis involved classifying AI applications and investigating their potential benefits in : 1) analyzing environmental conditions, such as historical and real-time climate data to optimize building orientation, and natural ventilation strategies, 2) facilitating the design process by providing real-time visualization and recommendations for achieving sustainable designs, 3) optimizing building materials and construction efficiency, by analyzing material properties, and providing accurate data during the construction stage to gives broader image on how to build efficiently and 4) simulating building performance, by predicting and doing assessment on the building’s energy consumption and thermal performance, allowing architects to refine design for optimal sustainability. Abstract

One of the iconic tourist attractions in Surabaya City is Tunjungan Street, which recently has regained public attention. After the government declared it to be “asleep” in 1990, this tourism was finally attempted to return by the Surabaya government. Moreover, the improvement in the economic sector, mainly in the MSMEs sector, has also become one of the reasons why Tunjungan Street started to be intensively developed again by the Surabaya government. The interesting thing about this area is that the researchers obtained opportunities to define physical evidence of the area, which is a marketing tactic and also evidence of the existence of a sense of place in this area. The aim of this research is to understand the reason for the government’s success in reviving Tunjungan Street. This research used a qualitative method using a case study, supported by going directly to Tunjungan Street to observe the surrounding conditions. The results of the research revealed that physical evidence has proven to contribute to the marketing of the Tunjungan area. The results showed that the Tunjungan area, architecture, interior, and focal point became attractive physical evidence. This is shown by the crowding, interactions between visitors and sellers, and the friendly atmosphere along the corridor of Tunjungan Street. This research can be used for future consideration in forming a public space in a historical area. Keywords: Architecture, Marketing Mix, Physical Evidence, Sense of Place, Tunjungan Street.

Abstract

Kya-Kya is a Chinatown area, which is part of the old city of Surabaya. This place has become a culinary tourism destination and feasts visitors’ eyes on architecture that is viscous with oriental elements in its buildings. Various foods and beverages are available to welcome visitors, with seating areas decorated with round tables and chairs. Interestingly, this area provides opportunities for researchers who aim to define physical evidence of the tourism area, which is a tactic of the marketing mix. Physical evidence is one of the seven marketing mixes, which are product, price, place, promotion, people, and process. Good physical evidence is expected to increase the intention of repeat visits and word of mouth. This study used a quantitative method. Data collection was based on numerical data and 65 respondents’ data, and a direct visit to the Kya-Kya area was performed to observe the surrounding atmosphere. The results of the study revealed that physical evidence that has been proven to make a contribution was Chinatown architecture, buying and selling activities, and interiority in the Kya-Kya area. Abstract

Building integrated photovoltaic is considered as one of many potential strategies towards net zero energy building. Theimplementation potentials are found both on building’s horizontal and vertical envelope. For tropical area, it is knownthat solar incidence on a vertical plane is relatively lower than the one on a horizontal plane. However, potential of BIPVimplementation can be found in high-rise buildings where huge façade areas are available for PV integration. To predictthe energy generated by PV, many studies have already used a simulation method. Hence, the simulated result shouldbe compared with the one recorded in real condition. This study aims to present the potential of façade integratedphotovoltaic in tropical building area. A specified model is developed and used to calculate data of energy productionbased on the irradiance data generated by simulation and experiment. The results indicate the potential of PV’s verticalinstallation for buildings in tropical area. In the specified model, the percentages of energy substitution reach 31.04%to 35.65%, exceed the mix-used energy target set by Indonesian Government. Simultaneously, this result indicatessignificant reduction of building’s energy consumption and global emission that is derived from the use of non-renewableenergy source. Hence, it can be considered as one potential strategy towards Net-zero energy building. Furthermore, thecomparison of simulated results and measured results that less than 30% indicates that simulation using certain softwarecan be considered as a powerful tool to design strategies towards net-zero energy building. Keywords: façade-integrated photovoltaic, net-zero, measured results, simulated results.

Abstract

Alun-alun is a shared space that functions as a reception room for public. Because it is public space, alun-alun must be designed to be friendly for people with disabilities and the elderly. However, unfortunately, most public spaces in Indonesia were built without considering access for people with disabilities and the elderly. A design approach with inclusive principles was introduced as an equality-based approach where people with special needs such as people with disabilities and the elderly can explore every building and public space with a feeling of safety, comfort and confidence. The method used is a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The data collection technique was collected by direct observation in alun-alun Sidoarjo. The data obtained was then analyzed based on the inclusive design principles of Hawkins and friends. From the results of the study on the application of inclusive design, it can be seen that the Sidoarjo city square or alun-alun has not fully implemented the principles of inclusive design properly and correctly.
