This journal is called Dialogue as a vehicle to discuss social, political, and religious issues in society.

Abstract

This article examines the socio-religious dynamics behind the traditional sekaten held by two large palaces (keraton) of Javanese (Surakarta keraton and Yogyakarta keraton). This phenomenon is unique. Sekaten is a local traditional cultural performance, which combines Islam with Javanese culture. The current dynamics of acculturation make tourism opportunities. Using a qualitative approach and historical and ethnographic methods, data were collected through in-depth observations during the sekaten celebration at the Yogyakarta Palace. The results indicate that in the past the sekaten tradition functioned as a ‘religious institution’, which made the Surakarta palace and the Yogyakarta palace the two symbols of the strongest Islamic empire in Java. This research contributes that the local Islamic tradition in the past has undergone a paradigm shift, although the tradition has been preserved until the modern era. In the modern context, local cultural traditions have changed and created economic value through cultural tourism destinations supported by local governments. Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana implikasi Undang-Undang Informasi dan Transaksi Elektronik (UU ITE) terhadap kerukunan kehidupan beragama di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan normatif sosiologis dengan data primer adalah UU ITE dan kasus-kasus di media yang berkaitan dengan ujaran kebencian, penistaan agama, dan persoalan intoleransi lainnya. Tulisan ini berpendapat bahwa secara normatif, peraturan tersebut telah mencoba membangun kehidupan beragama yang harmonis di masyarakat dengan menegaskan pada pasal 28 ayat (2) tentang larangan menimbulkan rasa kebencian dan permusuhan antara sesama. Meskipun demikian, dalam tataran sosiologis, peraturan ini belum berjalan sesuai fungsinya, sehingga belum berdampak positif bagi keharmonisan kehidupan beragama di Indonesia. UU ITE muncul ketika “telah dilanggar” bukan pada tataran “peredam”. Hal ini disebabkan masih terdapat beberapa frasa undang-undang yang belum tegas dan masih menimbulkan multitafsir. Hal yang terjadi kemudian adalah aksi saling lapor atau ajang balas dendam dengan menggunakan UU ITE sebagai dasar. Pada akhirnya, kerukunan kehidupan beragama di Indonesia belum tercapai dengan baik. Kata Kunci: UU ITE, kerukunan, kehidupan beragama This paper aims to see how the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE law) affects religious harmony in Indonesia. This study uses a sociological normative approach with the primary data being the ITE Law and cases in the media related to hatred, blasphemy, and other tolerance issues. This paper argues that normatively, the regulation has tried to build a harmonious religious life in society by affirming Article 28 paragraph (2) concerning the prohibition of causing hatred and enmity between others. However, at the sociological level, this regulation is not yet in accordance with its function, so it does not have a positive impact on religious life in Indonesia. The ITE Law appears when it "has been violated" not at the "silencer" level. This is because there are still several legal phrases that are not yet firm and still lead to multiple interpretations. What happened then was an act of mutual reporting or revenge using the ITE Law as a basis. In the end, the harmony of religious life in Indonesia has not been achieved properly. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan potret keragaman dan bagaimana Institut Agama Kristen Negeri Ambon mengelola keragaman antar umat beragama. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik wawancara mendalam dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa potret keragaman di IAKN Ambon meliputi keragaman keyakinan, etnis dan juga keragaman fisik. Dalam mengelola keragaman, IAKN Ambon melakukan Langkah-langkah seperti: 1) Meningkatkan pemahaman dan kesadaran timbal balik dari semua unsur di lingkup kerja IAKN Ambon (Mahasiswa, pegawai dan dosen); 2) Memberikan kebebasan dalam beribadah menurut keyakinan masing-masing; 3) Menyediakan fasilitas ibadah, yaitu rumah moderasi yang didalamnya ada Musholaa untuk mereka yang beragama islam dan gereja (Capel) untuk yang beragama Kristen dan Katolik; 4) Menciptakan ruang bersama melalui berbagai kegiatan seperti webinar, workshop, pengabdian, penelitian. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa IAKN Ambon menunjukkan sikap yang positif dalam mengelola keragaman melalui berbagai kegiatan seperti workshop, webinar, pengabdian, penelitian, pembangunan rumah moderasi yang semuanya disambut baik oleh semua pihak dan mampu mewujudkan kampus yang harmoni dalam keragaman. Kata Kunci: mengelola, keragaman, agama This study aims to describe the portrait of diversity and how the Ambon State Christian Institute manages inter-religious diversity. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and observation techniques. The results show that the portrait of diversity in IAKN Ambon includes diversity of beliefs, ethnicities and also physical diversity. In managing diversity, IAKN Ambon takes steps such as: 1) Increasing mutual understanding and awareness of all elements within the scope of work of IAKN Ambon (students, employees and lecturers); 2) Give freedom to worship according to their respective beliefs; 3) Providing worship facilities, namely a house of moderation in which there is a prayer room for those who are Muslim and a church (Capel) for Christians and Catholics; 4) Creating a common space through various activities such as webinars, workshops, community service, research. Thus it can be concluded that IAKN Ambon shows a positive attitude in managing diversity through various activities such as workshops, webinars, community service, research, construction of a moderation house, all of which are welcomed by all parties and are able to create a campus that is harmonious in diversity. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konten website Kemenag mengenai diseminasi informasi sebagai upaya dalam mendiseminasikan moderasi beragama. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif menggunakan analisis konten naratif teks media yang diinterpretasikan dengan analisis konten terarah dan studi kepustakaan, dengan objek penelitian yang digunakan adalah website kemenag.go.id. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa konten di dalam website Kemenag RI tentang gagasan moderasi beragama merupakan isu utama dan menjadi orientasi program Kemenag RI. Hal ini sejalan dan merupakan bagian dari Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Menengah Nasional (RPJMN) 2020-2024. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Kemenag melakukan diseminasi informasi moderasi beragama dengan berbagai ikhtiar yang ditempuh, seperti kerjasama antar lembaga, pemberian informasi, dan sosialisasi moderasi beragama. Kata Kunci: analisis konten, diseminasi, Kementerian Agama, moderasi beragama This study aims to analyze the content of the Ministry of Religion website regarding information dissemination as an effort to disseminate religious moderation. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research using narrative content analysis of media texts interpreted by directed content analysis and literature study. The object of research used is the website kemenag.go.id. This research shows that the content on the Indonesian Ministry of Religion website about the idea of religious moderation is the main issue and has become the orientation of the RI Ministry of Religion program. This is in line with and is part of the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). This study indicates that the Ministry of Religion disseminates information on religious moderation with various efforts, such as inter-institutional cooperation, providing information, and socializing religious moderation. Abstract

Indonesian religious authority in the Post-Soeharto era has dramatically shifted from organization to individual. Previously, the two largest organizations Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, dominated religious authority. However, recently, the religious activities of the Indonesian Muslims have been influenced by celebrities who experienced a religious transformation (hijrah). These celebrities, who become more obedient and pious in daily life, are called ‘Hijrah actors’ as the same concept as ‘born-again Muslims.’ They have emerged as motivators, inspirators, and preachers who advise being more obedient to Indonesian Muslims. As a result, Indonesian Muslims have many choices to decide the religious authority to follow. This condition has caused the new actors of religious authority to use different strategies to gain the trust and support of Indonesian Muslims. This article is a case study that focuses on Peggy Melati Sukma. She was a former Indonesian celebrity who became a female preacher and da’wa actor (propagation of Islamic teaching). This article examines how Peggy built her religious authority. Data and information are gathered from social media, participating in Peggy’s da’wa activities, and analyzing her several autobiographies. This article finds that Peggy builds her female religious authority in Indonesia through five strategies: storytelling, promoting the Islamic lifestyle, sponsoring Islamic charity, use social media, and organizing religious community. Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kebijakan internal sekolah yang menunjukkan inklusivitas karakter toleran pada peserta didik yang majemuk. Fokus penelitian pada kebijakan inklusif dalam arti keadilan, kesetaraan, dan sikap positif terhadap kemajemukan agama. Sekolah berperan untuk memenuhi hak peserta didik dalam keberagamaan. Menjadi masalah, jika lembaga sekolah diskriminatif atau tidak memfasilitasi pendidikan kerohanian pesesrta didiknya. Studi kasus penelitian adalah SMAN 1 Mataram dan SMAN 5 Mataram. Penelitian ini adalah field research dengan teknik penggalian data observasi kegiatan peserta didik yang mencakup: organisasi, kerohanian, aturan hari libur agama, ketersediaan tempat ibadah; dan wawancara mendalam kepada peserta didik, guru, dan pelaku kebijakan sekolah. Hasilnya, kedua sekolah tersebut menerapkan institusionalisasi ide menjadi kebijakan. Di antara kebijakan tersebut: melaksanakan kegiatan imtaq (iman dan taqwa) sesuai agama peserta didik; memberikan izin pembentukan organisasi rohani; fasilitas tempat maupun alat ibadah multi-agama; memfasilitasi guru rohani di setiap agama yang dipeluk oleh peserta didik; dan kebijakan libur fakultatif. Pemahaman masyarakat di wilayah sekolah tentang keberagaman suku, bahasa, dan agama yang praksis (tidak teoritis) menjadikan modal penting dalam kelangsungan toleransi di sana. Meskipun kedua sekolah tersebut tidak mewakili kebhinnekaan dalam hal suku dan etnis, setidaknya agama peserta didik yang berbeda-beda mewakili cerminan dari Indonesia yang beragam. Kata Kunci: sekolah kebhinnekaan, kebijakan internal sekolah, karakter toleran, Mataram This article aims to analyze the school's internal policies that show the inclusiveness of the tolerant character of diverse learners. The research focuses on inclusive policies in terms of justice, equality, and positive attitudes towards religious pluralism. Schools play a role in fulfilling the rights of students in religion. It becomes a problem if school institutions are discriminatory or do not facilitate the spiritual education of their students. The research case studies are SMAN 1 Mataram and SMAN 5 Mataram. This research is field research with data mining techniques for observing student activities which include: organization, spirituality, rules for religious holidays, availability of places of worship; and in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and school policy actors. As a result, both schools implemented the institutionalization of ideas into policies. Among these policies: carry out imtaq (faith and taqwa) activities according to the religion of the students; granting permission to form a spiritual organization; facilities for places and tools of multi-religious worship; facilitate spiritual teachers in each religion embraced by students; and facultative holiday policies. The understanding of the community in the school area about the practical (non-theoretical) ethnic, linguistic and religious diversity is an important asset in sustaining tolerance there. Although the two schools do not represent diversity in terms of ethnicity and ethnicity, at least the different religions of the students represent a reflection of the diversity of Indonesia. Abstract

This research is developed on the basis of analytical construction focusing on two ideologies in Islam, namely Sunni, and Shi’ite. These two mainstreams of school of thoughts often create social conflict in the region of Puger. This research attempts to offer practical solutions. To explore deep understanding, a phenomenological approach involves eight participants, consisting of religious leaders, government officials, and community leaders. An in-depth interviews is used for the main data collection, such as the interview protocol instrument. All data are analyzed by data reduction theory, starting with identifying, determining, and narrating. This study has found that there are some factors trigger the conflict between two groups in the region of Puger including religious sect differences, rivalry existence in pesantren (Islamic boarding school), provocateurs, and allegations of discrimination against particular ideologies. Additionally, this study also affirms that there are other ideologies involved in this conflict. This study suggests intensive communication among the communities in the region of Puger, Jember, East Java, could potentially reduce the issues. Abstract

Kajian ini merespon temuan BNPT yang menyebutkan adanya pesantren yang disinyalir terafiliasi paham terorisme dan radikalisme. Kajian ini berfokus pada pesantren As’adiyah, Darul Da’wah wal Irsyad (DDI), dan Nahdlatul Ulum, terutama dari sisi jaringan dan model beragamanya sebagai basis moderasi beragama. Pertanyaan kajian ini adalah bagaimana jaringan dan model beragama pesantren As’adiyah, DDI, dan Nahdlatul Ulum Sulawesi Selatan serta relasi ketiganya dalam moderasi beragama? Kajian ini merupakan penelitian pustaka dan lapangan sekaligus. Kajian pustaka diarahkan untuk menelusuri sisi historis tiga pesantren tersebut terkait jaringan dan model beragamanya, sementara kajian lapangan diarahkan untuk mengungkap kebertahanan jaringan dan model beragamanya. Kajian ini menyimpulkan bahwa dari sisi jaringan, tiga pesantren tersebut saling mempengaruhi hingga berpangkal pada pengaruh tradisi pendidikan Islam dari Mekkah dan Jawa. Dari sisi model beragama, tiga pesantren tersebut menunjukkan upaya penerapan dan penyebaran paham moderasi beragama pada konteksnya masing-masing, yang terlihat sejak awal didirikannya yang didukung oleh pemerintah setempat, visi misinya yang memperbaiki akhlak dan intelektual umat, materi-materi kitab yang diajarkan, hingga pandangan para alumninya. Karena itu, perhatian sekaligus penguatan jaringan pesantren yang memiliki model beragama moderat perlu terus dilakukan, terutama dalam rangka menghindari masuknya paham radikalisme dan terorisme ke lembaga pesantren. Kata Kunci: As’adiyah, DDI, Nahdlatul Ulum, moderasi beragama, jaringan pesantren This study responds to the findings of the BNPT which states that there are pesantrens that are suspected to be affiliated with terrorism and radicalism. This study focuses on pesantrens of As'adiyah, Darul Da'wah wal Irsyad (DDI) and Nahdlatul Ulum, especially in terms of their religious networks and models as the basis for religious moderation. The question of this study is how are the networks and religious models of As'adiyah, DDI and Nahdlatul Ulum, and the relationship between the three in religious moderation? This study is both library and field research. The literature review is directed to explore the historical side of the three pesantren related to their networks and religious models, while field studies are directed to reveal the persistence of their networks and religious models. From this, this study concludes that the network of the three pesantren was influenced by the intellectual traditions of Mecca and Java. Even though all three have different religious models, all three show religious moderation. This can be seen from the beginning of its establishment which was supported by local government, its vision-mission to improve the morals and intellectuals of the people (umat), kitab materials taught, to the views of each alumni. Therefore, it is necessary to continue to pay attention to as well as strengthen the pesantren network that has a moderate religious model, especially in order to avoid the entry of radicalism and terrorism into Islamic boarding schools. Abstract

Sebagai wacana tandingan atas fenomena intoleransi yang bermunculan di Indonesia, kajian terkait keramahan terhadap agama lain (religious-others hospitality) harus dikaji lebih serius. Berdasarkan argumentasi Siddiqui yang mengatakan bahwa keramahan terhadap yang berbeda agama, bermuara pada masalah tarik menarik antara keberadaan manusia sebagai makhluk bermoral (Moral person) dan sebagai individu yang terikat oleh hukum (Legal person), penelitian ini mengkaji permasalahan kontestasi antara kedua faktor tersebut di kalangan mahasiswa Muslim di tiga Kampus Bela Negara (UPN Veteran Jawa Timur, Jakarta, dan Yogyakarta). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran (mixed methods) yang menggabungkan penyebaran online questionnaire dan wawancara dengan para pengajar mata kuliah Pendidikan Agama Islam dan Pendidikan Bela Negara. Berdasarkan analisis kuantitatif, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa faktor moral person dan legal person berpengaruh positif pada pembentukan karakter keramahan pada diri mahasiswa sebesar 10.4% dengan proporsi nilai moral person (yang terdiri dari nilai-nilai agama) lebih dominan dibanding legal person. Analisis kualitiatif lanjutan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga faktor pendukung terbentuknya keramahaman para mahasiswa: kemajemukan latar belakang keagamaan, nilai-nilai Bela Negara yang ditanamkan pada mata kuliah wajib, serta dukungan penuh dari segenap pimpinan serta tenaga pengajar. Kata kunci: keramahan, religious others, Kampus Bela Negara, moral person, legal person As a counter discourse to the cases of intolerance in Indonesia, studies related to religious-others hospitality should be revisited more seriously. Based on Siddiqui's argument that hospitality towards different religions leads to the issue of attraction between the existence of humans as “Moral persons” and as “Legal persons,” this current article examines the contestation between those two factors among Muslim students at three State Defense Campuses (UPN Veteran Jawa Timur, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta). This current research uses mixed method to gain its primary data that combines spreading of online questionnaire and interviews with lecturers of Islamic Education and State Defense subjects. Based on quantitative analysis, this study concludes that the moral person and legal person factors have a positive impact on the formation of the religious-others hospitality character by 10.4% with the proportion of moral person values (consisting of religious values) being more dominant than the other one. Further qualitative analysis shows that there are three factors that support the formation of student’s religious-others hospitality: the plurality of their religious backgrounds, the values of Bela Negara that are instilled in a compulsory subject, and full support from all leaders of the university and its teaching staff. Abstract

Dayak merupakan salah satu suku atau etnis dari berbagai macam suku yang berkembang di Indonesia, khususnya di Pulau Kalimantan. Suku Dayak memiliki beragam sub suku yang hidup berdampingan yang menjunjung tinggi nilai-nilai toleransi, dan memiliki rumah adat Radakng atau rumah panjang yang berfungsi untuk menjalin keharmonisan antar sesama. Seiring berjalanya waktu suku tersebut terlibat beberapa kali konflik dengan suku tertentu, seperti peristiwa di Sampit. Pada dasarnya suku Dayak menjadi sorotan utama, karena memiliki masa lalu yang buruk terkait konflik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitaif dan metode kepustakaan. Teknik pengambilan data yaitu dengan studi kepustakaan dan menggunakan analisis hermeneutika, yang merupakan penafsiran dari dokumen-dokumen yang diperoleh oleh peneliti. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penanaman nilai-nilai toleransi mulai dilakukan melalui rumah Radakng yang memiliki makna untuk menjalin kehidupan dengan penuh toleransi, kerukunan, gotong royong dan keadilan. Implikasi dari implementasi nilai-nilai toleransi tersebut dapat meningkatkan kerukunan antar umat beragama tanpa memandang perbedaan suku sehingga sangat jarang ditemui konflik antar umat beragama khususnya di suku Dayak. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi nilai-nilai toleransi melalui rumah adat Radakng dilakukan suku Dayak dengan baik, dan berimplikasi pada keharmonisan kerukunan antar umat beragama dan juga antar suku. Kata Kunci: rumah adat Radakng, nilai-nilai toleransi, masyarakat Dayak Dayak is one of the tribes or ethnic groups of various tribes that developed in Indonesia, especially on the island of Borneo. The Dayak tribe has various sub-tribes that live side by side who uphold the values ​​of tolerance, and have the Radakng traditional house or long house that functions to establish harmony among others. Over time the tribe was involved in several conflicts with certain tribes, such as the incident in Sampit. Basically the Dayak tribe is in the main spotlight, because it has a bad past related to conflict. This study uses a qualitative approach and library methods. The data collection technique is by studying literature and using hermeneutic analysis, which is the interpretation of the documents obtained by the researcher. The results showed that the cultivation of tolerance values ​​began to be carried out through the Radakng house which has the meaning to build a life full of tolerance, harmony, mutual cooperation and justice. The implication of the implementation of the values ​​of tolerance can increase harmony between religious communities regardless of ethnic differences so that conflicts between religious communities are very rare, especially in the Dayak tribe. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the implementation of tolerance values ​​through the Radakng traditional house is carried out by the Dayak tribe well, and has implications for the harmony of inter-religious and inter-ethnic harmony.
