Abstract

Background: One of natural materials used to prevent oral cavity infections caused by bacteria is Moringa plant extracts. The ingredients contained in Moringa plants are phenolic, alkaloid, tannin, and pterygospermin is thought to be able to inhibit bac-terial growth. Staphylococcus aureus has been known for a long time as a pathogen in the medical field but only a few studies were carried out in the oral cavity. Objective: To determine the inhibition test of Moringa oleifera L extract towards the growth of S.aureus bacteria. Method: The S.aureus culture was inserting on the surface of the nutrient so that it had solidified in a petri dish. Moringa seed extract was diluted in concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20%, and 40%. Paper disks are placed on agar me-dia contained populations of S.aureus bacteria, and after 24 hours the inhibition zone were measured. Results: The average diameter of inhibition zone at concentrations of 5%; 10%; 20%; 40% are 6.7 mm, 7.21 mm, 7.23 mm, 7.6 mm consecutively. Conclusion: A concentration of 5% Moringa oleifera L extract can inhibit the growth of S.aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Introduction: Oral health in the elderly is usually worse than the general population and its can increase the incidence of edentulous and tooth loss. Studies show that a reduction in the number of teeth and users of complete dentures causing the ability to chew is significantly to be less efficient and have an impact on general health. The lack of chewing ability is at risk of causing cognitive impairment. Cognitive impairment in the elderly is an early clinical sign of dementia. A number of studies have reported that individual with cognitive impairments especially those involving memory problems are more likely to develop dementia compared to normal people. Objective: This literature review discusses the relationship between oral health such as tooth loss, impaired chewing ability, and in relation to cognitive impairment that can increase the risk of dementia.

Abstract

Background: Chlorella vulgaris is one type of one-celled green algae, can multiply quickly, easy to cultured, and has a high survival ability. Mineral content of C.vulgaris plays a major role in bone and teeth mineralization and the regulation of blood calcium and phosphorus levels. One way to increase the effectiveness of the use of C.vulgaris in the process of bone remo-deling is to make a formulation of C.vulgaris extract in the gel form. Objective: To determine the formulation and safety of C.vulgaris gel preparations as bone remodeling material. Method: Experimental laboratory. Conclusion: the 5% concen-tration of gel preparation of C.vulgaris is the best formulation compared to other concentrations

Abstract

Background: The resorption of the mandibular alveolar bone is a common problem in the edentulous jaw, causing the alveolar ridge to become flat. This can lead to poor complete denture function and an unbalanced occlusion. Therefore, treatment is needed to obtain adequate retention and stability in edentulous mandible. Today, mini implant overdenture using magnetic retention is often used as a treatment for edentulous mandible. Objective: To review the literature on mini implant overden-ture using magnetic retention in prosthodontic cases. Discussion: Implant overdenture is a complete or partial denture covering the implant used as a support. Stability and retention of dentures in the long term can be achieved by using a small diameter implant called mini dental implant that is mounted directly on the alveolar ridge using magnets. Conclusion: Mini implant overdenture can be used in cases of edentulous mandible to obtain good retention and stability.

Abstract

Background: Trauma and injury to teeth and their supporting tissues often occur in cases of oromaxillofacial trauma. Oromaxillofacial trauma is found in 15% of all emergencies, with dentoalveolar trauma involvement in 2% of these cases. Objective: Management of dentoalveolar fractures with minor head injuries. Case: A 53-year-old man, traumatized by a single motorcycle accident and hit by a wooden board with his face hit first. The patient was unconscious shortly after the accident, then complained of pain in the lower lip and gums, teeth 11, 21 avulsed, 12, 22, 31, 21, 41, 42 mobile, and headache. Management: The inspection and handling of the airway was not carried out because it had been previously handled at Puskesmas. The patient was consulted on the Neurosurgery Department for a history of loss of consciousness, then under general anesthesia, definitive care was performed by attaching the eyelet splint to fix the anterior maxillary teeth, and fixation with Erich arch bar for the lower anterior teeth. Conclusion: Interdental wiring is an intraoperative fixation technique for dentoalveolar trauma, accompanied by eyelet splint and Erich arch bar. Patients with head trauma should be consulted to a neurosurgeon before definitive measures are taken.

Abstract

The development of aesthetic rehabilitation techniques in the field of dentistry has resulted in a paradigm shift in the field of restoration and aesthetics. Dentists plan care for patients need to do a good analysis, not only thinking about the treatment of one tooth but on all teeth that interfere with aesthetics when the patient smiles, especially for patients with bruxism and very worn teeth. A dentist must be able to choose treatments that are appropriate to the situation and condition of the patient. A di-gital smile design is used to formulate an overall mouth rehabilitation treatment plan using a combination of materials and conventional and digital methods. The different strengths of conventional and digital methods, make the combination of these two methods an adequate choice and represent the best part of both methods in contemporary dental practice. In the selection of restorative material in patients with bruxism and very worn teeth, the dentist must consider the patient's dental wear.

Abstract

Malocclusion is a condition that deviates from normal occlusion including irregularities of the teeth in the arch of the jaw such as crowding, protrusive, malposition and relationships that are not harmonious with the antagonist teeth. Non-physiological oral habits are abnormal human habits that cause stresses and tendencies that persist and are repeated continuously so that it affects craniofacial growth and is usually called bad habits. Changes in the activity of these muscles will lead to modification of facial growth patterns and head posture that can result in dentofacial deformity. Adaptation from nasal breathing to mouth breathing causes several unhealthy things, such as chronic middle ear infections, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections, sleep disor-ders, and facial growth disorders.
