Abstract

Background: Clearaligner or invisalign is an orthodontic device that uses a gradual transparent aligner to align teeth position. This device is used as an alternative treatment to dental braces. The development of clear aligner technology has increased for the treatment of complex cases. Clear aligners provide an aesthetic and comfortable treatment experience, facilitate oral hygine treatment, cause less pain than conventional orthodontic appliances, and reduce the number and duration of visits. However, production costs, dependence on patient cooperation and the inability to treat certain malocclusions are the limitations of this clear aligner treatment. Conclusion: Clear aligners are an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable orthodontic treatment option for patients, but there are still few reviews or studies that have looked at this relatively new type of orthodontic treatment. In addition, although this aligner treatment in some literature states contraindicated in open bite cases, however, through the use of an additional device, the attachment to this device is able to provide the effect of intrusion of the anterior teeth and extrusion of the posterior teeth for the anterior open bite case.

Abstract

Background: Demineralization is a condition where the tooth surface experiences mineral loss by releasing the bonds of cal-cium, hydroxyapatite and phosphate compounds thereby increasing the surface roughness of the enamel. Calcium and phos-phate can help improve the remineralization process by rebuilding hydroxyapatite crystals. Catfish (Clarias batrachus) bones contain 5.68% calcium and 3.78% phosphate which potentially remineralize tooth enamel. Objective: To determine the effect of catfish bone paste application on enamel surface roughness. Method: This experimental laboratory research used 32 samples of maxillary first premolar which were divided into 2 groups. All samples were immersed in cola type carbonated drinks for 2 minutes. Samples in each group were treated (6 minutes and 30 minutes) with catfish bone paste application in group I and CPP-ACP application in group II. The roughness test was carried out using a surface roughness tester on the surface of the initial tooth enamel, after soaking it in a cola type carbonated drink, and after application of the remineralization material for 6 mi-nutes and 30 minutes. Results: There was a decrease in enamel surface roughness after application of catfish bone paste and CPP-ACP paste. Conclusion: The application of catfish bone paste significantly decreased enamel surface roughness.

Abstract

A fixed restoration is required for improvement of function, comfort and esthetics, although the manufacturing technique is not easy. In this digital era, various tools have been developed to facilitate the manufacture of dentures, whether complete dentures, removable partial dentures or fixed dentures or fixed restorations. Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufac-turing (CAD/CAM) is a technology that has been developed in the world of dentistry to make it easier for dentists and labo-ratory technicians to work on prostheses, reduce the number of treatment visits and the results are better; although there are drawbacks, namely the cost is not cheap. Ceramics are one of the most esthetic prosthetic materials and resemble natural teeth so that it is in great demand, while zirconia is a material known for its excellent strength and esthetics so it is used as a core material. Zirconia has been known in the field of dentistry for several years and can be used as an ingredient in CAD/ CAM technology.

Abstract

Oral and dental health in the elderly needs special attention because it can affect general health. Complete denture is an alterna-tive treatment for tooth loss in the elderly because it can restore chewing function, appearance and social aspects and can im-prove nutritional status. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of CD on nutritional status in the el-derly. This quantitative research used analytical observation method with cross sectional study design. The study population was the elderly in the section of the Prosthodontics Baiturrahmah Dental Hospital and the samples were elderly who used CD and did not use CD selected by purposive sampling technique. Determination of nutritional status using the Body Mass Index (BMI), data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the elderly who used CD had a normal nutritional status of 60%, while the elderly who did not use CD had a normal nutritional status of only 34.8% and the analysis Chi-Square showed a significance value of 0.000 (P<0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of the use of CD on the nutri-tional status of the elderly at Baiturrahmah Dental Hospital, where using CD can improve nutritional status in the elderly.

Abstract

Background: In the present era there is precipitously increase in demand for orthodontic treatment especially among adult pa-tients. Fixed orthodontic treatment usually lasts up to 2-3 years, so it has some disadvantages like a higher predisposition to caries, gingival recession, and root resorption. This increases the demand to find the best method to increase tooth movement with the least possible disadvantages. Objective: to explore the successful approaches in tooth movemet by using device-assist-ed therapy. Methods: Through literature research. Result: The present information have exposed prosperous development in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement by using device-assisted therapy, includes are vibrational forces, low-level laser the-rapy (LLLT), and low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS). Conclusion: LLLT and LIPUS have shown positive outcome, but further investigation should be done for the best energy and duration to achieve the highest success rate.

Abstract

Background: The development of a child's jaw with complete teeth will certainly be better than the development of the jaw with some teeth that have been lost prematurely because the teeth are lost prematurely is very potentially crowding. This event often occurs during periods of mixed teeth caused by the premature loss of decidui teeth while the replacement teeth have not erupted due to shifting of teeth and so the space for the replacement teeth is insufficient. Objective: To find out more about preventive orthodontic treatments by using a space maintainer on premature loss of decidui tooth. Method: Scientific evidence and clinical cases were taken from the literature to support this review and information on preventive orthodontic treatments using space maintainers on early tooth loss. Conclusion: Orthodontic treatment with space maintainer is an appropriate procedure in case of premature loss to prevent the occurrence of malocclusion caused by tendency to movement of teeth resulting in loss of space for permanent teeth, crowding and impaction.
