Abstract

Nanofiller composite resin (NCR) restoration has a major problem, namely color changes. Polishing are factors that determi-ne color change and if accompanied by the use of mouthwash for a long time can cause more significant color changes. The 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash is a mouthwash that is often used in the community because it has low toxicity. However, using the chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% mouthwash in the long term can cause more significant discoloration. This study is aimed to determine the difference between discoloration of polished and unpolished NCR on the soaking of 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash. This purely experimental research with a pretest and posttest with control group design, using 24 samples of premolar teeth prepared with class II cavity design and then filled with NCR. The samples were then di-vided into 4 treatment groups, namely polished and non-polished NCR, 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash and aqua-dest. Soaking was carried out 24 hours a day for 5 days in an incubator at 37ºC. Color changes of each group were measured using shade guide Vita Classical. The results were analyzed descriptively and the normality was tested by the Shapiro-Wilk and Levene's homogenity test with significance value of 0.05. Mann-Whitney for the different test. Based on the results of this study, it is concluded that the discoloration of the polished NCR was smaller than that was not polished on the soaking of chlorhexidine mouthwash 0.2%

Abstract

Dental health education was given to all grade I public elementary school students in 2017 using audiovisual media. In 2018, dental health education was carried out with the same theme but with puppet stage extension media. The purpose of this study was to determine changes in dental health behavior in these students. This cross-sectional study involved 96 elementary school students in the working area of Puskesmas Sukawarna, Bandung who were randomly selected with the inclusion criteria having attended dental health education twice in the last two years. Primary data was taken through guided interviews using a questionnaire adapted from the 2013 WHO questionnaire, conducted in 2017 and 2019. In 2017 it was found that 43.8% of students had never received dental care from a dentist, in 2019 only 4.2% of students who never received dental care. In 2017, 8.3% of students did not visit a dentist in the last 12 months, but in 2019 only 3.1%. It was concluded that there was a change in dental health behavior for the better for students who had received dental health education twice in two consecutive years.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Oral and dental care in children causes anxiety and fear so that children become non-cooperative, resulting in suboptimal care provided by dentists so that anxiety management is needed. One form of handling anxiety is a modelling tech-nique which has a psychological principle that by studying the environment changes in behavior occur. Objective: To determine the effect of handling children's anxiety by using modelling techniques on changes in pulse rates in dental and oral care. Me-thods: Analytical observational research using cross sectional method and purposive sampling technique was conducted at the Pediatric Dentistry at Dental Hospital of Hasanuddin University. The samples were children aged 6-12 years who came for the first time to the clinic. The level of anxiety is measured using objective parameters, namely the measurement of the radial pulse before and after three types of modelling; dental modelling, games, and modelling videos. Data were analyzed using the Kol-mogorov Smirnov test. Results: The statistical test resulted in a value of p = 0.000 (<0.05) which showed a significant effect of treating children's anxiety using modeling techniques on pulse rate. Conclusion: The modelling technique is effective in redu-cing children's anxiety due to dental treatment.

Abstract

Denture stomatitis, the main cause of which is Candida species, especially C.albicans, is an inflammation of the oral mucosa of removable denture users which can be associated with reactions to oral biofilms, denture materials, or trauma due to dentur-es. The use of chemicals as denture cleaners can increase the roughness of the base surface, so that herbal ingredients can be used as alternative denture cleaners. Neem leaves (Azadirachta Indica A. Juss) contain active ingredients that can kill bacte-ria and fungi, in the form of azadirachtin, salannin, meliantriol, and nimbin as well as tannin compounds, saponins, flavonoids and terpenoids which have antifungal mechanisms. This research was aimed to determine the effectiveness of neem leaf extract against C.albicans on acrylic resin denture plates. The sample of this posttest only control group design study consisted of 24 acrylic resin plates contaminated with C.albicans suspension. After that, the samples were immersed in 4 groups of disinfectant solutions, namely 5% EDM, 10% EDM, aquadest and Polident® for 30 minutes. The number of C.albicans colonies was tested by Kruskal Wallis and U Mann Whitney. The results showed that the mean C.albicans colony in the EDM 5%, 10% EDM, aquadest and Polident® groups were 21.50 CFU/mL, 15.50 CFU/mL, 27.50 CFU/mL, 6.50 CFU/mL respectively. Neem leaf extract significantly decreased the number of C.albicans colonies (p <0.005). It was concluded that the higher the EDM con-centration, the greater its ability to reduce the number of C.albicans colonies.
