Abstract

Radiographic examination is one of the important supports in the periodontal field. Periodontal radiographs were used to as-sess the widening of the periodontalligament space, continuity of the lamina dura, height and shape of the alveolar crest, bone loss, interdental crater, and furcation defects. The shape of thedestruction of the periodontal tissue structure radiographically can give a different picture depending on the severity of periodontal disease, the radiographic technique used, or anatomical variations that resemble the disease.

Abstract

Good oral and dental hygiene is a challenge for orthodontic patients because food is easily trapped around brackets and under the arches of braces, thus becoming a barrier to brushing teeth. An effective way to get rid of plaque is to use a toothbrush regularly, to keep your teeth and mouth clean and healthy. This study was intended to determine the difference in dental and oral hygiene status between orthodontic and conventional toothbrush users in fixed orthodontic treatment. The results of the analysis of 6 articles are that the use of orthodontic toothbrushes is more effective than conventional toothbrushes in removing plaque. Or-thodontic toothbrushes can also provide a significant plaque reduction effect on fixed orthodontic appliance users. Orthodontic toothbrushes did not show any difference in removing plaque compared to conventional toothbrushes. It was concluded that there were differences in dental and oral hygiene status between orthodontic and conventional brush users in fixed orthodontic treatment.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Two-thirds of Indonesia's territory is mostly waters. The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982 stated that the area of Indonesian waters is 5.8 million km2 and there are 27.2% of all flora and fauna species. Algae is one of the most abundant biological resources in Indonesian waters, which is about 8.6%. In Indonesian waters, there are about 28 species of brown algae from six genera including Dyctyota, Padine, Hormophysa, Sargassum, Turbinaria andHydroclathrus. Brown al-gae have a large alginate content in their cell walls, approximately 40% of their dry weight. The alginate contained in brown al-gae canbe used in industrial fields, such as the dental impression material industry. The main active ingredients in the manufac-ture of irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials are sodium alginate, potassium alginate, and triethanolamine alginate. Sodium alginate and potassium alginate can be extracted from brown algae species such as Sargassum sp.

Abstract

Enterococcus faecalis is a bacterium that is often found in root canals of teeth and can survive in them even after treatment. The use of 2.5% NaOCl as a root canal irrigation material has disadvantages; toxic and irritating, so other alternatives are needed. Green okra extract contains flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and terpenoids which have antibacterial properties. This study aims to determine the inhibition of green okra extract against E.faecalis. It was doneexperimental laboratory research with a posttest-only control group design. The inhibition test used the disc diffusion method which consisted of 5 research groups,i.e. green okra extract with concentrations of 1.563%, 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, and 2.5% NaOCl. Data were analyzed using non-pa-rametric statistical testsKruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney. The average of the inhibition zone diameter of the green okra extract concentrations were 1.563% (0 mm), 3.125% (0 mm), 6.25% (15.9 mm), 12.5% (18.03 mm), and 2.5% NaOCl (24.07 mm). The Kruskal Wallis test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05) which meant that there was a difference in the research group, followed by the Mann Whitney test which showed there were significant differences between all research groups except between green okra extract concentrations of 1.563% and 3.125%. It was concluded that green okra extract had an inhibitory effect on the growth of E.faecalis at concentrations of 6.25% and 12.5%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia is a country that has the highest marine species richness; even 45% of the world's seaweed species. One type of sea-weed that is cultivated in Indonesia is red algae (Eucheuma spinosum) which is able to produce active metabolites that have bio-logical activities such as antiviral, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. This literature review discusses the potential of red algae extract on wound healing, namely secondary data and literature studies, analyzed descriptively by descri-bing and comparing the results of research regarding the active compound content of red algae which is closely related towound healing. It is discussed about various active compounds such as flavonoids, triterpenoids, alkaloids, ascorbic acid, steroids, sa-ponins, and polyphenolsfound in the red algae have antioxidant properties that can accelerate wound healing. It is concluded that the active compounds of flavonoids, triterpenoids, alkaloids, ascorbic acid, steroids, saponins, and polyphenols contained in the red algae have antioxidant properties that can accelerate wound healing.
