Abstract

The tourism industry is seeing rapid growth. Nevertheless, the involvement of women in the official administration of the tourism industry remains limited. The objective of this study was to examine the extent of women's formal involvement in the management of tourist operations in Kebonagung tourist Village, located in Imogiri, Bantul Regency, in the Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta Province. The analysis was conducted using the MOA (Motivation, Opportunity, and Ability) participation model. This study employed a qualitative methodology, utilizing techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. Data collection spanned a duration of 20 days, commencing on April 1st and concluding on April 20th, 2022. The researcher conducted interviews with three managers and pioneers of the Kebonagung Tourism Village, three female members who hold formal positions in the administration structure of the village, and three female local residents who actively participate in tourism activities. The findings of this study indicate that the level of women's engagement in formal management, as measured by factors such as motivation, opportunity, and ability, was significantly low. Additionally, the participation of women in formal management positions was shown to be extremely limited. The low participation of women in formal management in Kebonagung Tourism Village can be attributed to various factors. These include a lack of motivation among women to engage in management roles, limited opportunities that are not effectively utilized, inadequate or insufficient capabilities, as well as internal and external barriers that hinder women from formally participating in managing tourism activities.

Abstract

The front office plays a crucial role in establishing the hotel's reputation in the perception of the customers. Hence, it is imperative to evaluate the efficacy of the front office personnel in order to guarantee client satisfaction during their stay. Nevertheless, as a result of the frequent and intense face-to-face interactions with guests, front office personnel are susceptible to burnout and frequently encounter various stressful situations and demanding expectations. This study aims to ascertain the burnout phenomenon among front office workers at The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta amidst the epidemic. The burnout identification in this study pertains to the notion of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) as proposed by Kristensen et al. (2007). This studyutilizes the three dimensions of customer-related burnout in CBI. The research results of a survey yielded several conclusions. First, front office personnel at The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta encountered burnout at a relatively low level, with a mean score of 1.98. Second, the results show that 'hard to work with guests' and 'drained energy' are the experiences that received the highest score (χ=2.18). However, the score still indicates a 'low' degree. Meanwhile, the experience that received the lowest scoren was the 'frustration experience' (χ=1.73). The frustration experience is rated as 'very low'.

Abstract

The COVID-19 epidemic has impeded tourism activities worldwide. Pancoh Ecotourism Village is an instance of a tourist destination that was compelled to cease its operations amid the pandemic. Nevertheless, that does not imply that nothing can be accomplished.   Amidst the pandemic, it is imperative to create tourism offerings that are more inventive in order to adapt to the new normal period. The Pancoh Ecotourism Village offers an innovative tourism package that combines art and culture based on the concept of storynomics. This study employs the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method to engage village communities as active participants, rather than just sources of information. The aim is to involve them in the process of gathering, organizing, and presenting narratives about the local arts and culture that define the Ecotourism Villages of Pancoh.   This study discovered that the PAR technique is beneficial for students who are examining the extent of community involvement in developing a work plan, namely in this case, the creation of tour packages based on storynomics. However, PAR encounters challenges such as extended research duration, varying levels of informant motivation, and the researcher's requirement for considerable adaptability in terms of time and ability to engage with informants.

Abstract

The Glastonbury Festival, renowned as one of the greatest music festivals globally, has come under environmental scrutiny due to its substantial expansion. While the festival undeniably benefits the economy, it also has adverse effects by contributing to the carbon footprint. This phenomenon is a result of congregating a large number of individuals in a single location concurrently for an extended period of time. The carbon footprint generated is substantial, and when combined with the garbage generated, it can result in significant environmental harm. Recognizing this concern, the organizer has implemented a comprehensive strategy to reduce and control its carbon emissions. Hence, this study evaluated the efficacy of various approaches by employing the framework of energy consumption, trash generation, and transportation emissions (Fredline et al., 2005). The outcome demonstrates that Glastonbury Festival's endeavor to achieve environmental sustainability underscores its dedication to diminishing its carbon emissions while safeguarding its core identity. Glastonbury has implemented novel energy solutions, such as solar and wind power, biodiesel, and recycled vegetable oil waste, to reduce emissions and include sustainable energy sources. Furthermore, waste management has effectively diminished the usage of disposable plastic bottles, decreased trash through recycling efforts, and promoted the practice of participants taking their possessions with them. Lastly, the transportation emissions, which account for the largest proportion of the total emissions, still require a solution, since they remain the primary concern of the event. The Glastonbury Festival's sustainability could be improved by the implementation of additional measures, educational initiatives, and partnerships with environmental organizations.
