Abstract

One species of the genus Anadara, used as an alternative food source, is the fur shells (Anadara pilula). The purpose of this research is to analyze the growth pattern, condition factor, and the condition index of fur shells (Anadara pilula) in the waters of Kalirejo village, Pasuruan East Java. This research was conducted for three months. Samples of fur shells used as much as 200 each month. Long relationship weight is analyzed using regression analysis. The results showed that the value of B < 3 indicated a negative alometry growth pattern. The value of condition factor in each month is 1.040026, 1.044695, and 1.070018926, this indicates that fur shells have a less flat body shape. As for the value of the condition index in each month, namely 0.334421, 0.512482, and 0.34303959, it indicates that the shell condition index feathers have a value of < 2.5 which means the fur shells belong to the skinny category. Condition factor values and condition indices can be influenced by factors such as Reproduki process, environmental condition, and food availability.

Abstract

Fresh natural feeds such as marine worms, squid, and oysters are rich sources of amino acids, proteins, and essential fatty acids, including docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), arachidonic acid (AA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which are important for shrimp broodstock reproduction and seed production. Marine worms, in particular, contain a high protein content of approximately 56.29%. This study aims to evaluate the effects of different fresh feed types on the hatching rate (HR) of eggs and the quality of nauplii produced by female broodstock of Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei. The study employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Five feeding treatments were tested with three replicates each: marine worms, squid, oysters, a combination of marine worms and oysters, and commercial pellet feed as the control. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test to determine significant differences among treatments. The results showed that different types of fresh feed significantly affected egg hatching rate. The highest hatching rate was obtained from broodstock fed marine worms, reaching 80%, which corresponded to approximately 124,630 successfully hatched larvae. Fresh feed type also had a highly significant effect on nauplius quality, as indicated by developmental stage progression at 38 hours after hatching. Broodstock fed marine worms produced nauplii that reached an average developmental stage of Nauplius VI, indicating superior larval quality compared with the other treatments. Water quality parameters during broodstock maintenance remained within acceptable ranges, with temperature ranging from 29–31°C, dissolved oxygen from 5.7 mg L⁻¹, pH at 8.0, and salinity at 31 ppt. In conclusion, the intensive use of fresh marine worms as broodstock feed can significantly improve egg hatching rate and enhance nauplius quality in Pacific white shrimp (L. vannamei).

Abstract

Tetraselmis chuii is one type of phytoplankton that can be used as a natural food source. According to FAO-UN (2016) Tetraselmis chuii has 83,400% protein content, 32,500% carbohydrate and 45,700% lipid. Higher than Chaetoceros gracili, Nannochloropsis oculata, Dunaliellatertiolecta and Isochrysis galbana. In cultured phytoplankton nutrient composition of the culture medium was very instrumental in the growth. Microalgae growth with culture can reach optimum by mixing sea water with nutrients that are not contained in the sea water. Related to this, various efforts have been made in an effort to increase the growth of natural feed, both cultivation methods and the addition of various growth substances. One substance that has the potential to increase the growth of natural feed is the use of growth hormones to increase the growth of natural feed, namely through population density, he application form is by adding growth regulators. This research was carried out at the Natural Feed Laboratory at the Center for Aquaculture of Sea Water Fisheries, Situbondo. This study used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) yanang cultured laboratory scale with 7 treatments and 4 repetitions. The treatment in this study was the administration of 2.4-D-Acid Growth Regulating Substances with different doses. The main parameters used include growth measurements by calculating the density and growth rates Tetraselmis chuii. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by LSD test. Abstract

Body coloration is one of the most important quality attributes determining the ornamental value of goldfish (Carassius auratus). Since fish are unable to synthesize carotenoids, dietary supplementation with natural carotenoid sources is required to enhance pigmentation. Spirulina platensis is a microalga rich in carotenoids that has the potential to improve fish coloration. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of Spirulina platensis meal in feed on the color enhancement of goldfish. The study employed an experimental method using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of six treatments with three replications. The treatments included feed supplemented with 0% (control), 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% Spirulina platensis meal. Fish were reared for four weeks, and color intensity of the head, body, fins, and tail was assessed periodically. Water quality parameters, including temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO), were also monitored throughout the experiment. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s multiple range test. The results showed that dietary supplementation with Spirulina platensis significantly affected body coloration but had no significant effect on the coloration of the head, fins, and tail. The highest body color intensity was observed in fish fed diets containing 3% Spirulina platensis, with an average color score of 56.55 ± 0.59, significantly higher than the control treatment. Water quality remained within suitable ranges for goldfish culture, with temperatures of 23–26°C, pH 7, and DO ranging from 6.7 to 9.9 mg/L. In conclusion, supplementation of 3% Spirulina platensis meal in feed effectively enhances the body coloration of goldfish and can be recommended as a natural pigment source in ornamental fish culture.

Abstract

The availability of high-quality broodstock is a key factor in the success of giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) hatchery operations. Broodstock nutrition, particularly the type of natural feed provided, plays an important role in supporting gonadal development and reproductive performance. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of different natural feed types on gonad maturation and fecundity of giant freshwater prawn broodstock. The study was conducted using an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments: squid (Loligo sp.), sea worms, trash fish, and commercial pellets (control). Female broodstock were reared under controlled conditions, and observations were made on gonad maturity level and fecundity. Gonad maturation was assessed based on the percentage of broodstock reaching Gonad Maturity Stage III (GMS III), while fecundity was determined using the gravimetric method. Water quality parameters, including temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), and pH, were monitored throughout the experiment. The results showed that different feed types significantly affected gonad maturation and fecundity of giant freshwater prawn broodstock. Squid feed produced the highest percentage of broodstock reaching GMS III (83%), followed by sea worms (67%), trash fish (41%), and pellets (25%). Similarly, the highest fecundity was observed in the squid treatment, reaching 28,846 ± 4,925 eggs per female, compared to 21,120 ± 2,579 eggs in the sea worm treatment, 19,644 ± 6,396 eggs in the trash fish treatment, and 16,768 ± 4,183 eggs in the control treatment. Water quality remained within optimal ranges for broodstock culture. In conclusion, squid is the most effective natural feed for enhancing gonad maturation and fecundity of giant freshwater prawn broodstock, making it a promising dietary component for improving hatchery productivity.
