Kekompleksan tersebut yang memungkinkan adanya perubahan nilai baik itu disengaja atau tidak. Perubahan nilai ideologi tersebut terlihat dalam karya terjemahan They Say I?m a Monkey dengan judul asli Mereka Bilang Saya Monyet karya Djenar Maesa Ayu. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik baca dan catat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan adanya perubahan atau ketidaktersampaikannya ideologi dari karya asli ke dalam karya terjemahannya.

Abstract

From the perspective of sociolinguistic, people and language are tightly connected. People are changing not the language. The way people used language now and then are different, even just slightly. Words which then considered prestigious are not necessarily the same today. Then, talking about song, the lyrics which used now and then are different too. A song can be called popular if it can be accepted by many people, and then it can be mean that the language or lyric used in the popular song, as a part of the song, is well liked by many people. By using that concept, the researcher compares two languages from two different times. This research is aimed to describe the different use of conjunction between two eras. The researcher uses observation method and noting technique, and data are the conjunctions taken from the songs from two eras which later be compared. The result shows that there are differences. Generally, both eras heavily used subordinate conjunction, but different in percentage. The unique thing is that both eras almost have similar graphics when both are compared.

Abstract

Novel The Inheritance of Lossputs spotlightat Biju. He is often narrated to be an ambivalent character and he always receives a negative status with regard to his identity, but Desai brought this character to safe haven with a nationalist attitude. The research problem refers to how the narrative of Biju, whosufferedin the West and brought back to the East, is seen as an image of locality and nationalism. This study uses Sara Upstone?s theory of spatial politics. The technique of analysis is descriptive interpretation. The result shows that Biju in The Inheritance of Loss is often narrated to be an ambivalent character and he always receives a negative status regarding his identity, but when it is seen from the way Desai narrates the resolution of the Biju?s conflict, it implies a nationalist side through locality. Returning to the East is the best way, or alternative space, to release the chaos of Biju?s life.

Abstract

The language choice strategy of the lecturer has implications for the success of the communication process in the classroom. This can be known through student perception. This study aims to prove this relationship by (1) describing the use of local languages, national languages, and foreign languages by lecturers in regular classes (nonbilingual class); (2) describe student perception of the classroom atmosphere developed; and (3) describe students? perceptions of the lecturer?s character. This study used qualitative research with case study design. The selected research participants were 11 teaching assistants at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology. Data were collected using interview techniques and produced a description of the use of language in the classroom by 33 lecturers. The data is classified based on the dimensions of positive words and negative words as well as the dimensions of competence and social attractiveness. The research concluded that (1) most of the lecturers used their multilingual skills in the classroom; (2) the more variety of languages used by lecturers shows the perception of a conducive and attractive classroom atmosphere; (3) the more variety of languages used by lecturers shows the higher dimensions of competence and social attractiveness. The results of this study can be a reference to language choices strategies for lecturers to create effective communication in the learning process in class.Akynova, D. et al.
