Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the function of cold storage in stabilizing fish prices in Ambon City, analyzing optimal production levels of various types of dominant fish, and analyzing the level of efficiency of utilization of cold storage and auxiliary machinery. This study uses the survey method. Primary data collection through questionnaires is built empirically while secondary data is obtained from several agencies related to this study. The research sample was drawn by exhausting sampling, amounting to 6 cold storage units in Ambon City. The role of cold storage to stabilize fish prices was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach, while the quantitative techniques used included analysis of optimization of cold storage production with linear programming and analysis of the efficiency of utilization of cold storage. The results of the study show that cold storage has not played a role properly to stabilize fish prices in Ambon City. To achieve optimal use of production factors, the cold storage management needs to reduce the raw material by 24,915.9 kg / month; 7 HOK / month workforce; cold storage storage space capacity of 2.09 kg / month; and demand for flying fish 1,402.6 kg / month, while the use of production factors efficiently (fully utulized) is the capacity of the freezing machine, demand for tuna, skipjack, and cob. The level of technical efficiency of the utilization of cold storage facilities is reached, the total use of installed capacity must be proportional to the capacity used.

Abstract

The resources of large pelagic including tuna (Thunnus sp) in Maluku are quite potential with moderate status and must be utilized optimally. In Tial, the utilizing of these resources uses hand lines; especially fishing line. Tuna hand line is classified as small-scale fisheries which has various problems. One of it is fishing inputs allocation that leads to inefficient. This study in general aims to analyze the hand line tuna fisheries business based on technical and economical efficiency. It was conducted by using survey method in Tial, Central Maluku Regency for 20 units hand line fishermen. Data was analized by Cobb-Douglas production function approach to identify efficient inputs; several financial parameters to determine business feasibility; and CPUE to measure the level of technical productivity. The results show that efficient production factors are fishermen’s fishing experience and fishing frequency. During the four months of observation, all business units made an average profit of Rp 31,199,139 or Rp 458,810.86/trip. R/C and PP parameters show that the business is feasible to be developed; while the largest ROI (135.2%) is in the 18th business unit. Business units that have CPUE >1 are unit 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th. Based on several technical-economical measurements, the hand line tuna fishery business in Tial is efficient and feasible to be developed.

Abstract

Fish culture in floating net cages can be done through monoculture and polyculture systems. Those systems have been carried out technically by farmers in Tanjung Marthaalfons Ambon Bay. The development of fish culture business does not only pay attention to technical issues, but also the level of fish mortality and operational costs. Thus, this business needs to be evaluated financially. Through survey, the data was collected from key informants, and analyzed in qualitative and quantitative descriptive method. The result shows that fish farming business with floating net cages in Tanjung Marthaalfons Ambon Bay in financially feasible to be developed. When the income is compared to regional minimum wage of Maluku, fish culture business with polyculture system is more profitable because the income is above the regional minimum wage value of Rp. 3,645,698 / month. The value of return on investment and revenue cost ratio of fish culture with polyculture systems is higher than monoculture systems, and its payback period is faster than monoculture systems.

Abstract

Information about material kinds of artificial reef which effective for marine organism habitat is rare. Based on this fenomena, It is important to conduct a study about bamboo and tire artificial reef. The objective of this study is to find out a catch comparison and species compotition of pot catch on bamboo and tire artificial reef. Alternatif a widely used materials are bamboo and tire with consideration easy to obtain and economis. The result of this study show that the total catch during the study was 170 fishes from 8 species dominated by Siganus javus, Seranidae sp and Carangidae sp. The total catch of the Tire artificial reef was 87 fishes including 48,19 % Siganus sp, 23,53% Seranidae sp and 10,06 % Lethrinidae sp where as Bamboo artificial reef was 83 fishes including 33,34 % Siganus sps,26,3% Seranidae sp and 14,26 % Carangidae sp . The result showed that catch of bamboo artificial reef was significantly difference from the catch of tire artificial reef where the catch of tire artificial reef was higher than that catch of bamboo artificial reef.
