Abstract

This study aims to collect information on water quality data, specifically physical and chemical parameters, to assess the suitability of the land for fish farming activities in the ponds of the SUPM Waiheru Ambon aquaculture installation in Kairatu Village, Kairatu District, West Seram Regency. Water quality analysis was conducted on several parameters, including physical parameters such as temperature, brightness, salinity, and ammonia. As well as chemical parameters which include DO, pH, TDS, nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate. The results of the field analysis are scored according to the land suitability class (score: 1-3), where this score is then multiplied by the weight, and the results are summed. The sum is then divided by 3 and multiplied by 100%. The final value of this calculation is then matched with the level of the class category to produce a land suitability level. The results of the measurement of water quality parameters on the ponds of SUPM Waiheru Ambon Aquaculture Installation in Kairatu Village for freshwater fish farming activities are still within the normal threshold by established water quality standards. The results of the analysis of the feasibility of SUPM Waiheru Ambon Aquaculture Installation ponds in Kairatu Village are included in the feasible category with the score value of land suitability for cultivation at station 1 of 86.36% (very suitable), station 2 of 80.30% (quite suitable), at station 3 of 83.33% (very suitable) and station 4 of 83.33% (very suitable).

Abstract

Floating net cages (KJA) are one method of fish farming that is increasingly popular in various coastal areas of Indonesia, including in Ambon City. Economically, KJA plays an important role in increasing the income of fishermen. More stable and controlled fish production through KJA allows fishermen to earn a more certain income compared to traditional fishing. The purpose of this study was conducted to see how many per cent of the increase in income that occurred in the KJA business owner with a job before doing KJA business in Teluk Ambon Dalam. Primary data collection was carried out by interview based on a questionnaire to 9 respondents selected by purposive sampling method according to the criteria that the respondent is an active KJA business owner in Ambon Bay. With the data analysis method using excel application for income, the results showed a significant increase in income of 76% for KJA business owners in Teluk Ambon Dalam compared to their previous jobs. Thus KJA is also a new employment opportunity, both directly in KJA operations and in supporting sectors such as fish processing and marketing and has good prospects in the future

Abstract

The fishermen's exchange analysis is a process of evaluating and assessing the economic performance of fishermen, including income, costs, and profits. This analysis is useful for identifying sources of income so that improvements and expansions can be made and optimizing fishermen's costs, so that they can increase profits. This research aims to analyze the Fishermen's Exchange Rate (NTN) of longline fishermen and to analyze the Fishermen's Exchange Rate Index (INTN) of longline fishing in Kawa Village, West Seram Regency. Data analysis was conducted through qualitative descriptive methods. This data aims to understand the characteristics of the respondents, while quantitative descriptive data analysis is used to calculate the income from fisheries, non-fisheries, expenditures from fisheries and non-fisheries, and household consumption, as well as to analyze the Fishermen's Exchange Rate (NTN) and the Fishermen's Exchange Rate Index (INTN) of longline fishermen in Kawa. The results of the study show that the average fishery business income obtained by fishermen from March to May 2024 is Rp. 6,680,417. The average non-fishery business income is Rp. 9,104,443. The average expenditure for fisheries business from March to May was Rp. 4,293,841, the average non-fishery business expenditure was Rp. 8,136,109, and the average expenditure for household consumption was Rp. 1,191,126. Meanwhile, the average non-consumption expenditure is Rp. 678,952. This indicates that the NTN of longline fishermen in Kawa Village is >1, where fishing households have a sufficient level of welfare to meet their primary needs and can also fulfill their non-primary needs.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and formulate effective strategies in octopus fisheries in Pulau Sembilan District. The approach used in this study is qualitative, with descriptive analysis and case studies on octopus fisheries business actors in the area. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with fishermen, entrepreneurs, others, as well as field observations, literature reviews, and related parties. The results of the study indicate that octopus fisheries in Pulau Sembilan District have great potential but face several challenges, including market price fluctuations, technological limitations, and problems in resource management and marketing. SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis revealed that the main strengths are self-made and easily obtained fishing gear and profitable fishing efforts, while weaknesses include the low bargaining position of fishermen. Development opportunities include the availability of octopus market demand, while threats include fluctuating catch volumes and the entry of fishing fleets from other areas that use environmentally unfriendly tools. The recommended development strategy includes optimizing fishing groups and developing fishing gear that supports fishing activities to ensure business sustainability. The implementation of this strategy is expected to increase the productivity, income and welfare of the fishing community in Pulau Sembilan District

Abstract

This study aims to examine the carrying capacity of the area as well as visitor perceptions of marine tourism activities at Jemeluk Beach, Karangasem, Bali, as a basis for sustainable tourism management. Data collection was carried out from late September to late October 2023 using quantitative and qualitative descriptive approaches, with primary data obtained through observations, interviews, and questionnaires, and secondary data gathered from literature and related institutions. The carrying capacity analysis was conducted by considering the extent of the usable area and the duration of visitor activities, while visitor perceptions were evaluated using the four main components of tourism—attraction, accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services (4A)—measured with the Likert Scale. The results showed that beach recreation has a carrying capacity of 44 people/day, snorkeling 385 people/day, and diving 181 people/day, with a total carrying capacity of 610 people/day. Overall, visitors’ perceptions of attractions were classified as good, particularly for snorkeling and diving, which were appreciated due to the diversity of coral reefs and clear water conditions. Accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services were assessed as adequate, although several aspects such as road conditions, availability of worship facilities, and information centers still require improvement. These findings are expected to serve as valuable input for tourism managers and local government in enhancing service quality and ensuring sustainable utilization of natural resources at Jemeluk Beach.

Abstract

In coastal areas there are 4 types of ecosystems which have an important role in the habitat of various biota in coastal areas, namely coral reef ecosystems, coastal ecosystems, seagrass ecosystems and mangrove ecosystems. Four ecosystems, the seagrass ecosystem is the least known. This is due to a lack of attention and lack of public knowledge of the seagrass ecosystem, so that the seagrass ecosystem is often misinterpreted as an environment that is useless and does not provide benefits to humans. Seagrass as a shallow marine ecosystem has an important role in supporting the life and development of species in shallow seas, namely as a primary producer, habitat for biota and trapping sediment and nutrients in the waters. One of the seagrass ecosystem locations that has high utilization pressure by people living in coastal areas is Teluk Ambon Dalam. The sustainability of the Teluk Ambon Dalam coastal ecosystem is threatened by physical destruction such as dredging of beach sand and sedimentation due to weak land management and pollution. This research obtained an economic valuation of seagrass degradation in Tanjung Tiram, Poka Village. This research aims to analyze the perceptions of coastal communities in Poka Village regarding seagrass degradation and estimate the value of seagrass degradation in Poka Village, Ambon, using the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) approach. Data analysis methods include perception analysis and willingness to pay analysis with CVM. The results show that the coastal communities of Tanjung Tiram, Poka Village's perception of seagrass degradation is known or positive, proven by the average index value of 3.45. The total value of the willingness to pay the coastal community of Tanjung Tiram, Poka Village, for seagrass rehabilitation is IDR 903,314.24/month, showing the proxy/suspected or estimated value of seagrass degradation

Abstract

Marine ecotourism is an alternative form of tourism development that not only prioritizes nature conservation but also considers the socioeconomic welfare of coastal communities. This study examines the potential and challenges of developing socioeconomic-based marine ecotourism in Kali Biru Banabungi, Buton Regency, using a SWOT analysis approach. This tourist area has abundant fishery biodiversity, including various fish genera that reflect the health of the aquatic ecosystem. This potential can be a major attraction for tourist activities such as snorkeling and diving, which also support marine conservation. However, the management of ecotourism in this area requires attention to various challenges, such as limited infrastructure, waste management, and the quality of human resources that still needs to be improved. Through SWOT analysis, this study identifies the strengths of Kali Biru Banabungi, such as its captivating natural scenery, diversity of fish fauna, and good accessibility. On the other hand, the detected weaknesses are the lack of supporting facilities and suboptimal cleanliness management. The existing opportunities include support from the local community and government regulations that support the development of tourist areas, while the threats faced include damage to facilities and competition with other tourist attractions. The proposed ecotourism development strategy includes optimizing the potential of biodiversity and cooperation between the local community, government, and tourism managers. This approach is expected to ensure the sustainability of marine ecotourism that benefits nature conservation and community economic empowerment.

Abstract

This study was conducted to describe the forms of social interaction that develop within fishing activities and to analyze the income levels earned by fishermen at the business, owner, and crew levels. A descriptive method was employed, using a qualitative approach to examine social interaction patterns and a quantitative approach to calculate income based on cost structure, profit-sharing mechanisms, and production fluctuations between the fishing season and the less productive season. The research involved 5 Purse Seine unit owners out of a total of 10 units, as well as 25 crew members working on those five units. The results indicate that social interaction among Purse Seine fishermen in Latuhalat Village consists of three main forms: cooperation, competition, and conflict. Cooperation is reflected in the relationships between boat owners and crew members, among the crew themselves, and between fishermen and fish collectors (jibu-jibu) as well as transport drivers. Cooperation among fishing groups also emerges through mutual assistance in providing equipment or operational needs. Competition arises both among individuals and between fishing units in their efforts to obtain larger catches, while conflict is typically triggered by misunderstandings or unequal distribution of income. Economically, fishermen’s business income shows significant variation between seasons. During the fishing season, the average business income reaches IDR 6,086,651 per trip, with owners and crew members each receiving IDR 2,434,661, and rumpon income amounting to IDR 1,217,330. In contrast, during the less productive season, average business income decreases to IDR 1,392,251 per trip. These findings highlight that social interactions and seasonal fluctuations strongly influence the economic stability of purse seine fishermen’s households in Latuhalat Village.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze consumer satisfaction levels based on a set of service attributes that reflect both product quality and service delivery processes. A total of 30 respondents were selected as the sample using accidental sampling. The respondent characteristics analyzed included gender and age, providing a demographic overview that may influence perceptions of service quality and the resulting satisfaction. Consumer satisfaction was measured using seven verified attributes, namely product quality, price, service, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. Descriptive analysis results indicate that most respondents fall into the high-satisfaction category, with a CSI score of 0.80, particularly for product quality, competitive pricing, and service performance. These findings align with previous studies stating that service quality dimensions and value for money are key determinants of satisfaction, loyalty, and repurchase intention. The study provides practical implications for business managers to enhance the consistency of service quality and maintain the attributes that strongly influence consumer satisfaction. Moreover, the findings can serve as a reference for developing service improvement strategies that are more oriented toward consumer needs and preferences
