Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the natural illumination levels obtained using Light-Shelves Techniques (LST) under real tropical conditions in Malaysia. Two parameters of manually controllable of LST design have been examined; Location (L) and Position (P) which were placed on the south-façade window. A scaled-model experiment was applied to determine the illumination levels achieved by LST under real sky conditions. Computer simulation results using Radiance engine were used to validate the scaled-model method used indicators Daylight Ratio (DR%), and it observed to be in great concurrence with physical scaled-model data obtained under tropic sky which is mostly an intermediate sky. The maximum average level percentage of DR% differences between scaled-model and simulation was 1.8% (≤10%). The results showed the performance of the LST can be improved by controlling the location and position. The most optimal LST for south-facing orientation was found in different times at locations in the external L1 and L2 at P1 give the best illuminance near the window and the back. The best improvement in daylighting at deep office area (SP3) were 4.2% at 9:00h on Jan, 4.7% and 7.3% at 12:00h, and by 27% and 2.1% at 15:00h on Jan and March respectively.

Abstract

Taking Zhengzhou urban residents travel means and the city’s traffic conditions as examples, this paper makes in-depth analysis on the Cultural Characteristics behind options of Zhengzhou citizen’s travel means. The paper, after investigating the citizen’s travel intentions, makes both normative and empirical comparisons to different cultural features behind people choosing different urban travel means. Then it drew a conclusion on how different cultural characteristics of urban residents affect their preference to travel means. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i4.4171

Abstract

In this paper, we describe the construction of important landmarks of roads in the GIS environment. The system uses the corners between more than two roads as an important landmarks. In this corner points will be saving a number of images, each one represents the movement direction between two segment roads. The objective of our work is to build the geo-database repository depend on the GIS (vector data) and multimedia (raster data) information. This paper considered as a preprocessing step for a roadmap discovery of video film when the input to the system is a dolly video film of roads with absence the GPS locations of frames video, and the output is the pathway (route) on the map inside the GIS environment. This work considered as a starting point for multimedia query inside the GIS environment. That’s mean when query the GIS system about a particular image or video, the GIS system must be able to know and determine the location of this image or video file on the map. Thus, the first step for doing this process needs to building and constructing an appropriate database for matching process later.

Abstract

The mobile agent has been seen as a promising distributed computing technology. The mobility characteristic of mobile agent makes it to travel often in open network. In this scenario, it is obvious that the mobile agents are vulnerable to various security threats. Protecting free-roaming mobile agents from malicious host and from other mobile agents has drawn much attention in recent years. The protection of mobile agents is considered as one of the greatest challenges of security, because the platform of execution has access to all the components of the mobile agent. In this paper, we present a new architecture paradigm of mobile agents, which allows the separation of the implementation tasks of the agent and its security mechanisms. Our approach is based on using two strategies of adaptation to adapt the mobile agent security at runtime, depending on the sensitivity of the services required to perform the duties of the agent and the degree of confidence of the visited platforms.

Abstract

In this paper error sources existing in the on-line inspection system for numerical control machines are analyzed. A mathematical model of the geometric errors of a three-axis machining center is created and the pretravel variations are obtained in different directions. Then an error compensation is applied to improve the accuracy of the on-line inspection system. A methodology of spatial statistical analysis of machining errors for free-form surfaces is proposed. Through the on-line inspection of a machined workpiece, the measured points and their machining errors are obtained. By analysis of these machining errors using the spatial statistical analysis, the machining errors are decomposed into systematic errors and random errors, which will provide the basis for machining error compensation during the subsequent process. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i8.1969

Abstract

K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) is one of the most popular algorithms for data classification. Many researchers have found that the KNN algorithm accomplishes very good performance in their experiments on different datasets. The traditional KNN text classification algorithm has limitations: calculation complexity, the performance is solely dependent on the training set, and so on. To overcome these limitations, an improved version of KNN is proposed in this paper, we use genetic algorithm combined with weighted KNN to improve its classification performance. and the experiment results shown that our proposed algorithm outperforms the KNN with greater accuracy. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i10.2534

Abstract

3-blade and 4-blade cloverleaf antennas operating at 2.45 GHz have been proposed. In order to achieve directional radiation pattern and high gain, reflector is incorporated to the proposed antennas. The proposed antennas have an average gain of 2.37 dBi while the proposed antennas with reflector have an average gain of 6.38 dBi. The dimension of the proposed antenna is compact enough to be mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Simulated and measured results are used to demonstrate the performance of the antenna. The simulated and measured return losses, together with the simulated radiation patterns, are presented and compared.

Abstract

This paper presents investigation of conceivable transient overvoltage that can be produced amid vacuum electrical switch (VCB) operation at the association purpose of a photovoltaic power plant. Average exchanging occasion that is identified with VCB concerns stimulation and de-empowerment of emptied transformer. Nonetheless, at the common photovoltaic power plant the transformer is sustained by an inverter outfitted with LC (or LCL) channels that are important for constraint of music and swell in voltage and current. From the perspective of exchanging operations, the inductance and capacitance of the LV side associated channel influence the regular recurrence of the transformer, which is reflected by various transient framework reaction amid VCB working. In this article, research facility estimation of overvoltage produced amid dispersion transformer exchanging by methods for VCB is examined. Effect of the LC channel associated at the LV side on the overvoltage concealment was contemplated. EMTP-ATP recreations were directed with a specific end goal to confirm the likelihood of homeless people end by methods for extra arrangement associated RL gag at the transformer medium voltage side.

Abstract

This paper investigates the electromagnetic radiation (EMR) of the human body before and after intense exercise. The intensity of exercise refers to the rate or the effort at which the activity is being performed. 30 healthy students participated in this research. The data were collected at the specific point of the human body by using a frequency detector. The reading of the frequency was taken 5 times at each point at the same location; hence, the average value is calculated for data analysis. This frequency measurement is recorded two times which is before and after intense exercise with a consistence protocol for all participants. The collected data is analyzed by using MATLAB programming tool which converts the data frequency into 15 colours of bio-energies which symbolizes different energy field score. The score represents the health level of the samples at specific point. From the analysis, higher frequency of EMR is detected after intense exercise compared to before intense exercise. There is also a significant change in the physical health score categories. This indicates that the intense exercise influences the body EMR radiation frequencies.

Abstract

The recent advancement of renewable energy sources and specifically photovoltaic system has resulted in outdoor installations of large power stations. A photovoltaic system is exposed to extreme ambient conditions due to the lightning strike activity that generated induced overvoltage which have a high tendency to affect the electrical apparatus especially renewable energy plant that directly exposed to this source. This study is performed through experimental work by comparing the effect of induced overvoltage propagation upon between the twisted and non-twisted distribution line for photovoltaic system. The induced voltage is performed by using lightning impulse generator. It is found that the maximum voltage of the unwanted signal is proportional with the distant of the specimen. The closer distant between solar panel material and spark discharge, the more serious effect would occur due to the induced overvoltage.
