Abstract

Angle of arrival (AOA) is able to achieve high accuracy when the antenna arrays are deployed much closer to the emitter. However, spatial resolution problem still exists. This paper presents a novel AOA estimation method called sparsity angle sensing (SAS) to improve the resolution. It integrates compressive sensing theorem into the parameter estimation formula. Traditional approaches for AOA estimation such as beamforming (BF), minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR), multiple signal classification (MUSIC) are compared with SAS, and simulation results are discussed. It is shown that SAS method outperforms the other three methods in spatial resolution and robustness. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.867

Abstract

The dynamic response test to the subgrade plays a very important role in railway construction and a new in-situ test system is proposed. This paper presents the application of non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) to analyze the stability of the supporting equipment for track subgrade dynamic response in-situ test device. Its stability is related with the extension length of the hydraulic cylinders and the backward condition of the supporting equipment - the hydraulic excavator. The problem is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem with the objective of maximizing  the supporting force for the test device. An 85 tons excavator is picked as the case to study. The first optimal results show the excavator may not support the test system successfully. After redesigning the boom and adding its weight and length as new parameters, the second optimize results indicate the test device can work normally. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3986

Abstract

DIVA (Directions into Velocities of Articulators) is a mathematical model of the processes behind speech acquisition and production, supposed to achieve a functional representation of areas in the brain that are involved in speech production and speech perception. Introducing cerebellum control mechanism into the model plays a significant role in improving the mechanism of speech acquisition and production based on DIVA model. The paper studies its learning process, and explores cerebellar contributions to the model, that is feedforward learning, sensory predictions, feedback command production and the timing of delays, and then constructs a cerebellum model that is closer to neuroanatomy and is applied to DIVA model. Simulation results show that the improved DIVA model can produce more clear and explicit speech sounds, and is more close to human-like pronunciation system. Abstract

In order to ensure the safety production in coal face, we need to monitor face working conditions and environment information; this paper presents a kind of clustering routing algorithm which is based on event-driven. Under normal circumstances, we improve LEACH protocol to monitor the information on the face; in an emergency, cluster head nodes in the event area will be selected based on events the degree of irritation the node residual energy and the power transmission level. Despite of the few advantages of moving venture basic resources for the Cloud, there are difficulties particularly identified with protection and confidentiality. It is essential that Cloud Users comprehend their protection and confidentiality needs, in view of their particular setting and select cloud demonstrate best fit to bolster these requirements. The writing gives works that emphasis on examining protection and confidentiality issues for cloud frameworks however such works don't give a methodological way to deal with evoke security and security necessities neither one of the methods to choose cloud arrangement models in light of fulfillment of these prerequisites by Cloud Service Providers. This work progresses the present cutting edge towards this bearing. Specifically, we consider necessities designing ideas to inspire and investigate protection and confidentiality prerequisites and their related instruments utilizing a calculated structure and an efficient procedure. The work presents confirmation as proof for fulfilling the protection and confidentiality necessities regarding culmination and reportable of security occurrence through review. This enables point of view cloud clients to characterize their affirmation prerequisites so that proper cloud models can be chosen for a given setting.

Abstract

The involvement of the elderly in the activities is low compare to younger adult due to their frailty. This paper presents intrinsic motivations for productive ageing where it highlights the factors that motivate the elderly to participate in the activities. There are thirteen elderly respondents came from the people in the urban Klang Valley. The qualitative data analysis approach is used in this study. There are five intrinsic factors, which, consist of Autonomy, Competence, Relatedness, Curiosity and Altruism that motivate the participation of the elderly in volunteering, caregiving and self-development activities in this study. This research focuses on activities that resulted intrinsic values and not on monetary value like most of past researchers. Intrinsic motivation features are significant features in ICT as the identification of the ICT features is based on motivation to use the ICT.

Abstract

his paper begins with a review on the research status of search engine, followed by discussion on goals of search engine, and then the principle of distributed computing is explained. Consequently the MapReduce distributed computing model and the Hadoop distributed file system (HDFS) are analyzed in detail. Finally the distributed search engine architecture is presented. On the basis of the architecture, future challenges and opportunities of the distributed search engine are highlighted.

Abstract

This paper presents the novel designs, analysis, and performance of 4-pole and 8-pole microwave and millimeter-wave (MMW) waveguide filters for operation at X and Y frequency bands. The waveguide filters have been designed and analyzed based on the mode matching and coupled resonators design techniques employing layered technology. Thorough waveguide filters working at X-band and Y-band have been designed, analyzed, fabricated, and tested along with the analysis of the output characteristics. Accurate designs of RF waveguides along with their filters based on the E-plane filter concept have been carried out with the ability of fitting into layered technology in high frequency production techniques. The filters demonstrate the appropriateness in order to develop high-performance well-established designs for systems that are intended for the multi-layer microwave, millimeter- and sub-millimeter-waves devices and systems; with the potential employment in radar, satellite, and radio astronomy applications.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2411

Abstract

The increasing demand of electricity and number of distributed generations connected to power system greatly influence the level of power service reliability. This paper aims at improving the reliability in an electric power distribution system by optimizing the number and location of sectionalizers using the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Simulated Annealing (SA) methods. Comparison of these two methods has been based on the reliability indices commonly used in distribution system: SAIFI, SAIDI, and CAIDI. A case study has been taken and simulated at a feeder of Pujon, a place in East Java province of Indonesia, to which some distributed generators were connected. Using the existing reliability indices condition as base reference, the addition of two distributed plants, which were micro hydro and wind turbine plants, has proven to lower the indices as much as 0.78% for SAIFI, 0.79% for SAIDI, and 2.32% for CAIDI. The optimal relocation of the existing 16 sectionalizers in the network proved to decrease further the reliability indices as much as 43.96% for SAIFI, 45.52% for SAIDI, and 2.8% for CAIDI, which means bringing to much better reliability condition. The implementation of the SA method on the considered data in general resulted in better reliability indices than using the ACO method.

Abstract

In order to stabilize planar inverted pendulum, after analyzing the physical characteristics of the planar inverted pendulum system, a pendulum nine-point controller and a car nine-point controller for X-axis and Y-axis were designed respectively. Then a fuzzy coordinator was designed using the fuzzy control theory based on the priority of those two controllers, and the priority level of the pendulum is higher than the car. Thus, the control tasks of each controller in each axis were harmonized successfully. The designed control strategy did not depend on mathematical model of the system, it depended on the control experience of people or the control experts. The compared experiments showed that the control strategy was easy and effective, what was’s more, it had a very good robust feature. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i1.4146
