Abstract

There is the magnetic coupling among control windings of controllable reactor of transformer type (CRT), the decoupling integrated magnetic technology is applied to the structure design of CRT in this paper. To realize the decoupling among the control windings we propose a magnetic integrated structure of CRT by providing low magnetic resistance magnetic circuit for control windings magnetic flux. The winding leakages of this structure are calculated, its inductance-transformer equivalent circuit is also established, and the equation of the coupling degree of control windings and no-load current with the lateral column air gap size are deduced. The simulation model for a CRT is fabricated with MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulation and analysis results shows that when increasing the air gap, the magnetic coupling between the control windings decreases apparently, the utilization ratio of windings current is also raised. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of this method by controlling the lateral column air gap size to achieve the purpose of decoupling.

Abstract

The goal of this work is to present a concept for web based Augmented Reality. We have many examples of Augmented Reality systems in different field from military applications to medical applications, from entertainment to manufacturing. In this paper we worked on how virtual environments can be combined with web based applications. Internet users need web sites for many reasons in daily life. On the other hand, Augmented Reality is one of the popular fields on virtual environment technologies that it would be useful to associate these two technologies. In this study JavaScript were used as main language to build Augmented Reality application supported by three different libraries each with a specific role. The libraries which are used through coding are Flartoolkit, Papervision3D, and Flex SDK. The outcome of this combined algorithms shows that the method is accomplished web based Augmented Reality for preschool children to provide educators a way to teach students with deeper, and more meaningful experiences in the academy. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i6.2659

Abstract

Steganography and steganalysis are essential topics for hiding information. Steganography is a technique of conceal secret messages by transmitting data through different domains. Its objective is to avoid discovery of secret messages. Steganalysis, meanwhile, is a method for locating the secret messages contained in the stego text. The objective of steganalysis is to find concealed data and to break the security of its domains. Steganalysis can be categorized into two types: targeted steganalysis and blind steganalysis. Steganography and steganalysis both have domains that are split into natural, also known as linguistic and digital media. There are three kinds of digital media which are picture, video and audio. The aim of this paper is to provide a survey on different linguistic steganalysis techniques used to find secret messages. This paper also highlighted two type of steganalysis method that are used in research and real practice. The discussion include findings on the most recent work on linguistic steganalysis techniques. This review hoped to help future research for improving and enhancing steganalytic capabilities.

Abstract

The DOA (direction of arrival) estimation of seismic signals from the moving target on the ground bears great significance for unattended ground systems. The traditional DOA estimation of seismic signals is achieved by a sensor array and its corresponding algorithms. MEMS (Micro-Electro- Mechanical Systems) vector vibration sensor, however, gets the vector information over the propagation of seismic signals and therefore can get a DOA estimation within a certain range through a single vector sensor. This paper proposes a new method to extend the orientation range through the rotation of the MEMS vector vibration axis. The experiment shows that this method shares the merits with simple systematic structure, high sensitivity and less than 5 degrees of error on average, which has an extensive wide application prospect. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3893

Abstract

data in an image file is needed by its owner to set his ownership in a logo as a watermark embedded in the image file. Hiding the logo in the image was done in several methods. One of the method is domain transform using 2D-DCT in which data is embedded in  frequency domain of the image. First, the host RGB image is converted to certain color space. The available and chosen color spaces are RGB, YCbCr or NTSC. The layer in which the watermark is embedded also can be selected. The available choices are 1st layer, 2nd layer, 3rd layer, 1st & 2nd layer, 2nd & 3rd  layer, 1st & 3rd layer and all layers.  After the selected layer of image in certain color space is transformed in block based to frequency domain by DCT, one bit watermark is embedded on the AC coefficient of each block such a way that the bit is represented by specific value called delta in a zigzag and vary length of pixel. The vary parameters optimized by Genetics Algorithm are  selected color space, selected layer, block size, length of pixel to be embedded by one bit watermark, and delta. Bit “1” is represented by +delta, and bit “0” is represented by –delta in vary length of pixel after zigzag. The simulation result performs that GA is useful to search the value of parameter that produces controllable the combination between robustness, invisibility and capacity. Thus, GA improves the  method by determining the exact value of parameter achieving BER, PSNR and payload.

Abstract

Non-convex Optimal Economic Dispatch (OED) problem is a complex optimization problem in power system operation that must be optimized economically to meet the power demand and system constraints. The non-convex OED is due to the generator characteristic such as prohibited operation zones, valve point effects (VPE) or multiple fuel options. This paper proposes a Gbest Artificial Bee Colony (GABC) algorithm based on global best particle (gbest) guided of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) in Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm for solving non-convex OED with VPE. In order to investigate the effectiveness and performance of GABC algorithm, the IEEE 14-bus 5 unit generators and IEEE 30-bus 6 unit generators test systems are considered. The comparison of optimal solution, convergence characteristic and robustness are also highlighted to reveal the advantages of GABC. Moreover, the optimal results obtained by proposed GABC are compared with other reported results of meta-heuristic algorithms. It found that the GABC capable to obtain lowest cost as compared to others. Thus, it has great potential to be implemented in  different types of power system optimization problem.

Abstract

In this paper are introduced the new airship techniques and technologies as cost effective solutions of Stratospheric Communication Platforms (SCP) as future backbone of terrestrial networks for rural communications. The launch or putting in position the airship is not critical point such as launch of satellite and controlling support services in the creation of space-based communication technology and the most expensive phase of the total system cost. Therefore, with few cost effective remote controlled and solar powered airships can be covered some region or country including remote and rural areas with low density of population. The airship SCP network offers better solutions than cellular radio systems, with greater speed of transmission than even optical modes, roaming will be enhanced without severe shadowing or obstacle problems and disturbances inside of buildings and service will cost less. The SPS mission system is more autonomous and discrete, can be integrated with current satellite and cellular systems, and will be the best solution for rural, mobile transportation and military applications. The SCP airship can be seen well from all positions inside coverage area, because they are overlapping the total coverage and because of elevation angle. In any circumstances mountains, buildings and even trees cannot cause obstructions like to cellular network. For these reasons, there is currently a revival of interest for SCP constellations and application types of various system concepts are being studied.

Abstract

In order to accurately separate a moving object from its shadow in a monitoring scene, this paper proposes a algorithm, which combines Multi-frame Average method for building background and HSV color space. First, the multi-frame average is used for setting up the background model. Second, the current frame and the background model are converted to HSV color space. In the foreground area, the values of brightness and saturation are smaller than that of the background, while the colors basically remain same. Just using these characters, the shadow is detected and eliminated. Finally, the algorithm is applied in videos with different monitoring scenes from the standard video library, such as highway, laboratory and campus, etc, to verify its effectiveness.  The experiment results show that the algorithm has better accuracy, reliability and robustness than the compared algorithm. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i4.4991

Abstract

Photovoltaics (PV) are the most abundant, perennial, environment friendly and distributed source of energy all over the globe. In this paper, the method to increase PV extraction efficiency for 60W panel with improved DMPP (Distributed Maximum Power Point) even on changing temperature and irradiance have been mapped and discussed. In order to achieve this, the components and subsystems have been analyzed and validated. The validated models are used to maximize the power output using two different models of DC-DC Converters in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. Closed loop Buck converter using state space nonlinear differential equations and direct component model are compared to reveal best results at Standard Test Conditions (STC). MPPT model developed can be used for obtaining maximum power output from PV even in partial presence of sun using Fuzzy Logic Controller. The Controller designed tracks highest power output for the buck converter. The model developed, using tested membership functions in FLC, can serve a platform for various real time applications using PV.

Abstract

Application of GPRS and GIS in boiler remote monitoring system was designed in this paper by combining the advantage of GPRS and GIS in remote data transmission with configuration monitoring technology. The detail information of the operating conditions of the industrial boiler can be viewed by marking the location of boiler on the electronic map dynamically which can realize the unified management for industrial boiler of a region or city conveniently. Experimental application show that the system has convenience to use, high reliability, which play an active role to improve the operating efficiency, to prevent the boiler accident, and to decrease the energy consumption. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i8.1655
