Joint estimation method for DOA and polarization parameters of single electromagnetic vector sensor is mostly concerned in radar signal processing now. This paper presents a new algorithm which uses the cyclostationary property of signal. It gets the estimation of DOA and polarization parameters from the noise subspace with minimum norm method. This method can reduce the estimate error of noise subspace vector. At the same time, it is immune to the additional stationary noise of any distribution and interference signals with different cyclic frequencies. Method has been tested by computer simulation and the test result is show in the paper. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i5.2562

Tag estimation can improve the throughput of the UHF passive RFID systems. It plays an important role in anti-collision algorithm. In order to reduce the complexity of the estimation algorithm and the hardware support, a new algorithm based on the continuous detection mechanism has been proposed. According to the different probability of the collision and idle, the number of the continuous detected slots must be set independently. This scheme can simplify the system and reduce the extra consumption by less detecting timeslot. Simulation results indicate the proposed scheme can improve the efficiency without complicate system. This paper presents a simple resistance-to-time converter. It consists of two voltage comparators, a ramp voltage generator, two logic gates and impulse voltage calibrators. A square-wave generator circuit is suggested in this paper. The design is simple and independent of the OPAMP offset issues. The resulting square-wave is rectified to get its DC equivalent and to a triangular output; the two outputs are applied to a comparator for generating a digital output with a duty cycle proportional to a change in resistance upon which is dependent the DC.

This paper provides an overview of the global trends in utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) installed capacity. This paper also presents a comparison of grid-connection requirements of six countries in the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia for utility-scale PV generators in normal and abnormal grid conditions. Many country-based grid codes and international standards (IEEE 1547) for interconnection of inverter-based renewable energy generators are demanding stricter grid-connection compliance from utility-scale PV generators to ensure power system safety and reliability as its penetration level increases. This paper then discusses the economic and technical impacts, and explores the preparedness of PV generation systems in meeting the grid code requirements.

Based on the Generalized Distributive Law and the features of FPGAs, this paper proposes a new strategy for implementation of Low-Costing QC-LDPC Decoder on FPGA platform. We get this new strategy from the Generalized Distributive Law, which is proposed to describe the belief propagation on graphs. And using this new strategy a low-costing (2560, 1024) LDPC decoder is implemented on a Xilinx Virtex-4 FPGA. Results show that this new strategy can make good use of the performance of LDPC codes, even though it needs less resource.

This study is aimed to explore the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) response during short-term exercise by stair stepper and to compare the finding between young healthy male and female subjects. The responses were statistically analyzed by applying independent-samples t-test statistical method. The calculation of Coefficient of Variation (CoV (%)) and the slope of the linear regression is used to assess the steadiness of the HRV. Furthermore, the results also demonstrated that female subjects had greater significant p-value of RMSSD feature and significance p-value in a LF feature is greater in male. Thus, the ongoing results demonstrated that males have the sympathetic drive and females have predominant parasympathetic drive using short-term exercise by stepper. Thus, the experiment results indicate the suitability of developing rehabilitation devices in the field of Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), research, control system and rehabilitation enginering, which may help to isolate males and females.

E-Prime is a suite of applications to fulfill researchers’ computerized experiment needs. Praat is a free software program for the analysis of speech in phonetics with which phoneticians can analyze, synthesize, and manipulate speech. SPSS is a software program which can be used for doing statistical analysis of the collected data. These computer software programs are applied in the present study which aims to explore the consonant acquisition of Putonghua (Modern Standard Chinese) by native speakers of Uyghur. The difficulty hierarchy of the Chinese consonants for the Uyghur learners of Chinese is found out through the perception experiment. The results of the experiment support the Markedness Differential Hypothesis. In addition, it shows that the second language speech acquisition is influenced by both the first and also the target language phonological system. In this paper, using the maximum principle for analyzing dynamic cost, we propose a new two-stage supply chain model of the manufacturing-assembly mode for high-tech perishable products supply chain and obtain the optimal conditions and results. On this basis, we further research the effect of localization of CODP on the total cost and the relation of CODP, inventory policy and demand type through the data simulation. The results of simulation show that CODP locates in the downstream of the product life cycle, is a linear function of the product life cycle. The result indicates that the demand forecast is the main factors influencing the total cost; meanwhile the mode of production according to the demand forecast is the deciding factor of the total cost. Also the model can reflect the relation between the total cost of two-stage supply chain and inventory, demand. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i2.3807

Nowadays, the requirement for high performance and sensitive alignment tools have increased after the advantage of the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) and molecular biology has been figured out through Bioinformatics study. Therefore, this paper reports the performance evaluation of parallel Smith-Waterman Algorithm implementation on the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan X Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) compared to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) running on Intel® CoreTM i5-4440S CPU 2.80GHz. Both of the design were developed using C-programming language and targeted to the respective platform. The code for GPU was developed and compiled using NVIDIA Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA). It clearly recorded that, the performance of GPU based computational is better compared to the CPU based. These results indicate that the GPU based DNA sequence alignment has a better speed in accelerating the computational process of DNA sequence alignment.

In this paper, the normalized prediction error of the electroencephalogram (EEG) signal recorded at five different mental tasks was computed. The results indicate that there exists predictability in the EEG signal beyond the baseline prediction of the mean and the one-step-ahead normalized prediction error of EEG signal vary greatly when different mental tasks are implemented, which implies that the one-step-ahead normalized prediction error can be employed as a feature of EEG signal to distinct different mental tasks. For different subjects, the one-step-ahead normalized prediction error vary greatly even the EEG signal are recorded from the same electrode under the same mental task, which implies that the subjects’ individual differences should be considered adequately when the one-step-ahead normalized prediction error is employed to distinct different mental tasks.
