Abstract

The evolution wireless technologies are growing rapidly in upcoming years. It is expected that many users will shift to more advanced devices that will contribute to gain higher demand in wireless spectrum. However, the capacity for the allocation frequency in the wireless spectrum is typically limited in wireless data transmission. Therefore, when the loads of wireless users in the wireless communications are increasing, the need of cache mechanisms such as Web caches or Web servers are crucial. The scalability demands on internet infrastructure keep increasing as the internet continues to grow in popularity and size. Therefore, the existence and development in Web caching technologies will contribute to bandwidth savings, network latency reduction, improve content availability and subsequently server load balancing. This paper will studies and investigates the cache performance in wireless spectrum with the purpose of dealing with the data growth since the spectrum crisis becomes a serious matter lately. The performance improvement will be observed using caching scheme which allows for time shifting and load shifting in accessing the wireless data with the better cache deployment in the network system. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i5.2506

Abstract

Program slicing is to abstract a part of source code depending on the point of interest. It used widely in maintenance, debugging and testing. There are many slicing techniques such as static, dynamic, and amorphous. In this paper, we choose to develop a new approach applying static slicing on Java programs. The new approach simplifies the data dependency using arrays. A new Tool called Java Multi-Slicing Tool (JavaMST) has been introduced to apply this approach.JavaMST presents new ways to slice any simple java code segment, it allows you to extract the variables and its direct and indirect dependencies from the code, using backward, forward or both slicing techniques to produce the needed code. This tool is a simple tool designed to deal with simple java code segments. JavaMST can be run under any operating system and does not require a specialized platforms or plug-ins. Therefore, it is useful to be used for educational purposes.

Abstract

Aim at the limitation of traditional PID controller has certain limitation, the traditional PID control is often difficult to obtain satisfactory control performance, and the RBF neural network is difficult to meet the requirement of real-time control system. To overcome it, an adaptive PID control strategy based on (RBF) neural network is proposed in this paper. The results show that the proposed controller is practical and effective, because of the adaptability, strong robustness and satisfactory control performance. It is also revealed from simulation results that the proposed control algorithm is valid for DC motor and also provides the theoretical and experimental basis. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v13i2.6958

Abstract

Quality control is one of important process that can not be avoided in industry. Image processing technique is required to distinguish the quality of wood. If it can be done automatically by the computer, it will be very helpful. This paper discusses the detection of straight and slant wood fiber to distinguish it’s quality. This paper propose an algorithm by using only two features i.e. mean (average value of slop angle fiber) and maximumangle (the maximum value of slop angle fiber). Then the classification method is used by tresholding. The result shows the performance is achieved on accuracy 79.2%. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i2.7725

Abstract

Machine learning application have been widely used in various sector as part of reducing work load and creating an automated decision making tool. This has gain the interest of power industries and utilities to apply machine learning as part of the operation. Fault identification and classification based machine learning application in power industries have gain significant accreditation due to its great capability and performance. In this paper, a machine-learning algorithm known as Support Vector Machine (SVM) for fault type classification in distribution system has been developed. Eleven different types of faults are generated with respect to actual network. A wide range of simulation condition in terms of different fault impedance value as well as fault types are considered in training and testing data. Right setting parameters are important to learning results and generalization ability of SVM. Gaussian radial basis function (RBF) kernel function has been used for training of SVM to accomplish the most optimized classifier. Initial finding from simulation result indicates that the proposed method is quick in learning and shows good accuracy values on faults type classification in distribution system. The developed algorithm is tested on IEEE 34 bus and IEEE 123 bus test distribution system.

Abstract

This paper studies the problem of allocating buffers in stochastic production flow lines with product travel time. We build a model that decomposes the production line into the S-B-S (Station-Buffer-Station) subsystems, and use queueing theory to aggregate the subsystems. Experiments are designed for both balanced and unbalanced production lines, and with the computational results, some general rules for the buffer allocation problem are proposed. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i3.4520

Abstract

In this paper, software reliability measurement is studied from the perspective of usage profile. Reliability parameters on each usage profile are expressed with unascertained rational numbers. Since failure process of each usage profile can be affected by multiple factors such as software attributes and users imports etc., GEP (gene expression programming) is introduced into software reliability modeling, to study comprehensive force among the factors. Finally, a software reliability GEP model based on usage profile is constructed. With the new model, users can confirm software reliability according to its usage, thus enabling software reliability to a more objective assessment. The new model is experimented to measure reliability of SYS in Musa data, and proved with a satisfactory performance. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i7.1572

Abstract

Nowadays, managing for optimal security to wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has emerged as an active research area. The challenging topics in this active research involve various issues such as energy consumption, routing algorithms, selection of sensors location according to a given premise, robustness, and efficiency. Despite the open problems in WSNs, already a high number of applications available shows the activeness of emerging research in this area. Through this paper, authors propose an alternative routing algorithmic approach that accelerate the existing algorithms in sense to develop a power-efficient crypto system to provide the desired level of security on a smaller footprint, while maintaining real-time performance and mapping them to customized hardware. To achieve this goal, the algorithms have been first analyzed and then profiled to recognize their computational structure that is to be mapped into hardware accelerators in platform of reconfigurable computing devices. An intensive set of experiments have been conducted and the obtained results show that the performance of the proposed architecture based on algorithms implementation outperforms the software implementation running on contemporary CPU in terms of the power consumption and throughput.

Abstract

In our experience of having worked with financial institutions for over 19 calendar years, we have seen that application development, maintenance and operations teams have a very silo-ed existence. In today's ever more fluid market, it is imperative for these teams to be very agile in their response to business needs. While development teams are trying to adopt agile and devops practices, operations and maintenance teams are sometimes forgotten in this transformation journey even though they play a very crucial role in managing customer facing systems. In this paper, we focus on application operations for their simplification, outline the post production challenges faced by the operations teams, assistance required from the development teams and need for coordination & harmony between application development and operations teams. We use the example of a financial organization where we are currently helping in simplification of application support processes using two key levers of cloud and devops adoption to highlight the path to simplification. We outline the solution levers we used, solution tenets, solution approach and considerations. We also share a target state model and regulated key functions & activities within the model as well as an interim operating model and a target operating model.
