Abstract

Unipolar single-phase active power filter control strategies need to the transformers and adders. Moreover, the circuits to fulfill the control strategy are more complicated. In order to solve above problems, an improved unipolar modulation control strategy has been performed in this paper. The principle of control strategy was analyzed in detail in this paper and related simulation has been finished. The results of simulation show that this improved control strategy can simplify the structure of circuit without affecting the system performance index. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i4.4817

Abstract

Technological developments in the field of fiber optic telecommunications with the media of the backbone network is faster in comparison with other technologies. In the process, the telecommunications industry use the metro ethernet configuration with Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network and  Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) as the backbone network. This study aims to answer the question of how much the effect of adding the MPLS network protocol on OSPF network. So from this research can be known the value of the efficiency of the addition MPLS network protocol on OSPF network based on network performance using a software simulator GNS3 as its backbone through a step-test. From the test results concluded that based on the delay by the load, MPLS makes network performance more efficient by 67.04%, based on the packet loss and link failure conditions, MPLS makes network performance more efficient by 1.1%, but based on the no-load delay, OSPF has more efficient network performance by 41.96%, and based on the transfer rate, OSPF has a more efficient network performance by 5.2%, to delay normal conditions both have a performance with an average value of 0% packet loss. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v15i1.7600

Abstract

This paper is to put forward a new speed control method for the rapid development high-speed railway system. In this method, extracting the real-time feature information according to the characteristics of high-speed railway running process, and the inference engine find the matched characteristics mode in the characteristic pattern based on the current characteristics information. Using the speed closed-loop control design method, calculated the current speed error, and then based on the current error using the multi-modal intelligent control algorithm to control, and produce a corresponding controlled variable through the control rule set. And make a simulation system to value it. The results show that it has better dynamic performance and reliable steady-state performance. It a valuable  method to provide a advanced way for the train safer, faster and more comfort. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i8.1642

Abstract

In the monitoring of cutting tool state, a large number of redundant information is contained in the sensor signal. Therefore, it is obviously not conducive to pattern recognition, and difficult to classify the tool wear state correctly from the available sensors. The test platform that had real-time information collection of the vibration and acoustic emission signals in turning was built. Observed signals were adaptively processed using the method of ensemble empirical mode decomposition introduced joint approximate diagonalization of eigenmatrices (J-EEMD). This method is based on the characteristics of the signal itself decomposed into several intrinsic mode functions (IMF), and then transforms the energy ratio between the IMF. The white noise of each IMF component has been eliminated by introducing JADE algorithm during the signal decomposition. Compared with the EEMD algorithm, the decomposition efficiency is significantly improved. The experiments showed that the method could identify the different states of tool wear, if applied to feature extraction of vibration and acoustic emission signal in the cutting process.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i10.3423

Abstract

This study focus on defining a new variant of regulated grammars called multiset controlled grammars as well as investigating their computational power. We apply a constructive theoretical approach; the intent of which is to provide new theories based on computational methods where the results are appeared in the form of examples, lemmas and theorems. In the study, we have found that multiset is powerful and yet a simple method in regulated rewriting theory. We have proved that multiset controlled grammars are at least as powerful as additive valence grammars, and they are at most powerful as matrix grammars.

Abstract

The determinant factor in transient stability study of electric power systems is the behavior of synchronous generators when subjected to sudden and large disturbances. The objective of this paper is to develop a mathematical model, general algorithm, and a computer program to investigate the transient stability of multi-machine power systems. The developed mathematical model is established as a first step. The new developments lie in modeling the fault occurrence and fault clearance as well as the procedure of computing the system matrices during and after the fault through only modification of the matrix before the fault. Based on the developed mathematical model, a general algorithm was built and translated into a computer program using an object-oriented and visual language called Delphi. The algorithm adopted the Runge-Kutta method for numerical solution of differential swing equations and was programmed within the program. The developed program was validated by applying it to small sample electrical networks. The program was used to analyze the transient stability of a relatively large test network and accurate results were obtained that could be relied upon for protective relays settings and optimization of control system parameters. It was found that the developed program is an effective and rapid tool for estimating transitory stability for real power systems.

Abstract

Face recognition has become one of the most important challenging problems in personal computer-human interaction, video observation, and biometric. Many algorithms have been developed in the recent years. Theses algorithms are not sufficiently robust to address the complex images. Therefore, this paper proposes soft computing algorithm based face recognition. One of the most promising soft computing algorithms which is back-propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) has been proposed. The proposed BP-ANN has been developed to improve the performance of the face recognition. The implementation of the developed BP-ANN has been achieved using MATLAB environment. The developed BP-ANN requires supervised training to learn how to anticipate results from the desired data. The BP-ANN has been developed to recognition 10 persons. Ten images have been used for each person. Therefore, 100 images have been utilized to train the developed BP-ANN. In this research 50 images have been used for testing purpose. The results show that the developed BP-ANN has produced a success ratio of 82%.

Abstract

In this paper, the complementary ring type metamaterial unit is theoretically analyzed by using the spectral domain approach. A terahertz bandpass filter is designed, which consists of triple-layer complementary ring metamaterial. The center frequency of the filter is 338GHz, the transmission rate in pass band reaches 97%, the maximum insertion loss in pass band reaches 0.62dB and 3dB bandwidth reaches 75.9GHz. The filter shows stable filtering properties at different polarization wave and the same polarized wave at different incident angles within the scope of 20°. The range of operating frequency matches the first terahertz atmosphere communication window, so it can be used in the field of terahertz atmosphere communication.

Abstract

A combined model which adopted thought of weight scale method in load forecasting to remedy such defect was proposed according to the shortcomings of traditional load forecasting combined model. Adopting the logarithmic least square algorithm to get the weight of single forecasting model by using the relationship between scale judgment matrix and weight matrix, the new model could give out forecasting result through creating such scale judgment matrix and weight matrix. The theory and implementation details of new model are presented, calculating and application in practice power grid proves the model has the ability to improve load forecasting precision effectively compared with single forecasting model and traditional combined model. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i4.2403

Abstract

Detection of palm vein pattern through image processing techniques is an open problem as performance of each technique is closely related to the sample image gathered for the processing. The detected palm vein pattern is useful for further analysis in biometrics application and medical purpose. This paper aims to investigate the application of Laplacian filter and Frangi-based filter in detecting vein pattern contained in a near infrared illuminated palm image. Both filtering techniques are applied independently to two palm image databases to compare their performance in translating vein pattern in the image visually. Through empirical study, it is observed that Laplacian filter can translate the vein pattern in the image effectively. But pre-processings involved before the application of Laplacian filter need to be performed to accurately translate the vein pattern. The implementation of Frangi-based filter, while simplifying the detection process without the need of extra pre-processing, resulted in only certain vein pattern detected. Using pixel-by-pixel objective assessment, the rate for Laplacian filter in detecting vein pattern are generally more than 85% compared to Frangi-based filter; where it ranges from 60% to 100%.
