Abstract

The objective of this paper is to evaluate an innovative application of inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) on the fault diagnosis of automobile crane hydraulic power steering (HPS) system. Contents of Fe, Cu and Al were examined by ICP-AES in the oil samples of HPS system for four different mileages of Puyuan QY50H. The mileages were 2000-9000 km, 11000-19000 km, 21000-28000 km and 32000-40000 km separately. Database of major mental contents in automobile crane HPS system of Puyuan QY50H with different mileage were calibrated. Results showed that, major mental contents were increased with the increasing of driving mileage and the normal contents laid between two trend lines. Through the determination of mental contents in HPS oil sample and further compared them with the values in their database, we could not only evaluate the wear condition of automobile crane HPS system, but also helped to diagnose the faults without dissembled the problematic vehicle. The results further indicated that, in time maintenance, high quality and low cost reparation could be realized by the application of ICP-AES technology on fault diagnosis of automobile crane power steering system. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i3.2214

Abstract

Diode-clamped three-level inverters have been widely used in high voltage and high power fields because of their unique advantages. Nowadays, diode-clamped three-level inverters have become a research hotspot. In order to reduce the content of energy harmonics injected into the power grid by the inverter system, the neutral point potential needs to be controlled. This paper proposes a control method based on a proportional controller. The voltage sector was redefined and the design of the proportional controller was completed. In combination with the introduction of a new PWM technology, a smooth control of the midpoint potential was achieved. The effectiveness of the method is verified by simulation in MATLAB

Abstract

Road accidents continuously become a major problem in Malaysia and consequently cause loss of life or property. Due to that, many road accident data have been collected by highway concessionaries or build–operate–transfer operating companies in the country meant for coming up with proper counter measures. Several analyses can be done on the accumulated data in order to improve road safety. In this study the reported road accidents cases in North South Expressway (NSE) from Sungai Petani to Bukit Lanjan during 2011 to 2014 period is analyzed. The aim is to determine whether the pattern is clustered at certain area and to identify spatial pattern of hot spots across this longest controlled-access expressway in Malaysia as hotspot represents the location of the road which is considered high risk and the probability of traffic accidents in relation to the level of risk in the surrounding areas. As no methodology for identifying hotspot has been agreed globally yet; hence this study helped determining the suitable principles and techniques for determination of the hotspot on Malaysian highways. Two spatial analysis techniques were applied, Nearest Neighborhood Hierarchical (NNH) Clustering and Spatial Temporal Clustering, using CrimeStat® and visualizing in ArcGIS™ software to calculate the concentration of the incidents and the results are compared based on their accuracies. Results identified several hotspots and showed that they varied in number and locations, depending on their parameter values. Further analysis on selected hot spot location showed that Spatial Temporal Clustering (STAC) has a higher accuracy index compared to Nearest Neighbor Hierarchical Clustering (NNH). Several recommendations on counter measures have also been proposed based on the details results.

Abstract

Communication is very important for people including adults and babies to exchange their thoughts, views and information. They can express their thoughts verbally and non-verbally. Baby sign language is non-verbal type that consists of a set of standard and organised form of hand gestures motion to represent different word. This language allows the children who have hearing impairment problem to communicate with others. In addition, it can also be taught to normal babies to convey their need before they have the ability to speak. It is very challenging for adults to understand babies and children with hearing impaired problem. Thus, a real-time hand gesture recognition system has been developed for adult to interactively learn the baby sign language. Firstly, the face region was detected in order to use the skin colour model of the face to detect the hand. After that, the hand shape was determined by finding the palm centre and convex hull. Convexity defects which representing gaps between the fingers were used to determine the number of fingertips whereas the movement of the hand was detected based on motion analysis. By setting the background colour to blue and adding extra light in front of the laptop, the system successfully obtained an accuracy higher than 85% rate for sign “mom”, “eat” and “milk” when tested on Malay, Chinese and Indian races in Malaysia.

Abstract

In this paper, we perform an analysis on the min-max decoding algorithm for nonbinary LDPC(low-density parity-check) codes and propose serial min-max decoding algorithm. Combining with the weighted processing of the variable node message, we propose serial min-max decoding algorithm based on variable weighting for nonbinary LDPC codes in the end. The simulation indicates that when the bit error rate is 10^-3,compared with serial min-max decoding algorithm ,traditional min-max decoding algorithm and traditional minsum algorithm ,serial min-max decoding algorithm based on variable weighting can offer additional coding gain 0.2dB、0.8dB and 1.4dB respectively in additional white Gaussian noise channel and under binary phase shift keying modulation. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i2.4176

Abstract

In the power system the major issue is to maintain the power quality .The term of power quality is to maintain the disturbance less voltage to the power system. The voltage disturbance mainly caused by voltage sag, voltage swell and harmonics presented in the system. If the system voltage is going below to the nominal voltage, then it is called as voltage sag. These power quality (PQ) events typically last for less than one second. If the system voltage is going above the nominal voltage, there it is called as voltage swell. The AC-AC converter based DVR is proposed. It can properly compensate for unlimited time duration, balanced, and as well as unbalanced voltage sag by observing the power from the grid. The pulse width modulation technique is used to triggering the switches. Only by the simple Bidirectional switches were used for generate the compensation voltage.

Abstract

Jatropha curcas is a plant that can be used as a substitute for diesel fuel. Lack of knowledge of farmers and the limited number of experts and extension agents into the problem of dealing with the disease Jatropha curcas plant which resulted in lower quality of Jatropha curcas. Dempster-Shafer method can be a solution for decision making based on previous research. The difference in beliefs of every expert in seeing Jatropha diseases are important because Dempster-Shafer can not solve this problem. Optimization using genetic algorithms can solve this problem. Optimization of belief values using genetic algorithms can improve the accuracy of the results of this system are using Dempster-Shafer. On the results of this system provides the highest system accuracy value, opimization of belief values using genetic algorithms gives a more significant result than the use of Dempster-Shafer only.

Abstract

One of marine current power plant equipment is turbine. In the design of marine current turbines required variables such as velocity and kinetic energy. This paper presents numerical study on a numerical design of marine current for predicting velocity and kinetic energy in the Bangka strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia that developed from Yaxum/3D model. This study includes the simulation of velocity and kinetic energy distributions at low and high tide current conditions by two flow rates of 0.1 and 0.3 Sv respectively.  The numerical method used to design computational program. Semi-implicit finite difference method used to 3D shallow water flow.  It found distributions of velocity and kinetic energy at high tide current condition greater than low tide current condition. The future, these results will be developed in marine current power plant project in the Bangka strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.
