Abstract

Unwanted signals or noise signals in sound files are considered one of the major challenges and issues for a thousand users. It is impossible to reduce or remove these noise signals without identifying their types and ranges. Therefore, to address one of the big problems in the digital or analogue communication, which is noise signals or unwanted signals, an adaptive selection method and noise signal removal algorithm are proposed in this research. The proposed algorithm is done through specifying the types of undesirable signals, frequency, and time range, then utilizing digital signal processing system which includes design several types of digital filters based on the types and numbers of unwanted signals. Four digital filters are used in this research to remove noise signals from the sound file by implementing the proposed algorithm using Matlab Code. Results show that our proposed algorithm was done successfully and the whole noise signals were removed without any negative consequence in the output sound signal. Unwanted signals or noise signals in sound files are considered one of the major challenges and issues for a thousand users. Abstract

This paper aims to research the position control of the hydraulic cylinder controlled by the high-speed on-off valve to realize the precise position control. A compound algorithm of proportional integral & speed feedforward- displacement feedback is put forward based on the research on the relationship between the duty ratio and the past flow for the high speed on-off valve. The speed feedforward-displacement feedback algorithm can solve the hysteresis resulting from the feedback control and be considered as the certain duty ratio is given ahead, and the proportional integral control algorithm is designed and utilized to deal with the position error by adjusting to the duty ratio of high speed on-off valve. The genetic algorithm is used to tune the control parameters, including speed forward coefficient, proportional and integral coefficient of displacement feedback, output coefficient to gain the optimization result, on terms of the performance of the position control system. The mathematics modeling is analyzed and simulated with Simulink using the bulk-cavity-node method, and the hydraulic loop is established to verify the simulation result with the optimized results on the FESTO platform. the research finds that the proposed position scheme is effective to increase the position precision, and the position control parameters optimized by genetic algorithm can decrease the position error more. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i5.4218

Abstract

As weather-related disasters visit the Philippines regularly and the intensity increases over time, an all-weather system of monitoring the weather and its effects is necessary. Specifically, when super typhoon Yolanda (with international name Haiyan) devastated central Philippines in 2013, almost all public terrestrial communication systems were down. This paper proposes a “back-to-the-basics”, stand-alone and scalable system used to monitor the weather in several locations. The system is not dependent on the public telecommunication systems but rather uses the old but reliable very high frequency (VHF) two-way communication system for the transmission of sensor data such as temperature, wind speed and direction, rainwater precipitation and water level. The scalability feature of the system allows the addition of more monitoring stations to cover a wider area. Based on the tests conducted with the prototype composed of a command center and three (3) local monitoring stations, the system was able to demonstrate the transmission of weather data as well as the scalability feature of the system. The system is envisaged that the proposed system can be very useful in weather monitoring in a provincial setting where the command center is in the provincial capitol and the monitoring stations are in municipalities and cities within the province.

Abstract

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology that operates in the 2.4GHz unlicensed ISM band, so it will inevitably encounter the interference from other wireless systems and other Bluetooth piconets. Because of the flexible, efficient and reliable spectrum access by adapting the radio’s operating characteristics to the real-time conditions of the environment, cognitive radio technology is apply in Bluetooth network. In this paper, a novel cognitive FH channel selection method which is built based on link quality detection is proposed, interference temperature judgments model is analyzed and cognitive processing cycle of channel access is discussed. The simulation results indicated that cognitive FH Bluetooth network is more anti-interference than conventional Bluetooth systems. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i3.2317

Abstract

This paper introduces a novel clustering algorithm that combines crisp and fuzzy clustering. It not only has the high accuracy of fuzzy clustering, but also reduces the dependency on initialization. Specifically, it constitutes a fast learning process and therefore, the convergence rate and the accuracy of the RBFNN are greatly improved. The simulation results show that this strategy is successfully applied to the fault diagnosis of electric power grid. The training speed and the fault-tolerance of information aberrance, which comes from the maloperation of the protections and breakers, are superior to the traditional RBFNN.

Abstract

To ensure stability, security, and protection of electrical equipment from the damage the suitable coordination must be made in interconnected networks. In this paper, the nonlinear multivariable optimization techniques have been used with different performance indexes: Sequential quadratic programming (SQP), Sequential quadratic programming legacy (SQP-Legacy), Interior-Point and Active-Set for IEEE- 8 bus test system.  This system consists of twenty-eight protective relays divided into fourteen directional overcurrent relays (DOCR) and fourteen distance relays (DR). It has been tested in the ETAP environment to obtain three-phase short circuit current at the near and far end faults and operating time for all DOC relays for near-end fault as well as test the second zone time for distance relays (TZ2) with pilot signal (WP)and without pilot signal (WOP) of the proposed algorithm was used to reduce overall operating time of DOC relays and obtain optimal values for time multiplier setting (TMS) and TZ2 with the different coordination time interval (CTI) between main and backup relays. The simulation results were validated in ETAP program prove that the effectiveness of the Active-Set to minimize the TMS and TZ2 for the system.

Abstract

With the university expansion, how to maintain teaching order using limited resources make the intelligent course scheduling become a multiple-constraint and multi-objective optimization problem. Traditional intelligent course scheduling algorithm is inefficient, cannot solve curriculum conflict question and meet the requirements of the modern university education management. Given this situation, this paper analyzes the university timetabling problem, and establishes a general course scheduling model; then proposes an improved genetic algorithm to sovle the intelligent course scheduling problem. It can meet all of the education resources’ constraints and the teachers’ personal demands as much as possible. Test the performance of between the improved genetic algorithm and simple genetic algorithm under different scenarios, the experimental results show that the improved genetic algorithm has better performance, can schedule courses reasonable. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i4.4798
