Abstract

Designing uplink systems which group users with adaptive interference mitigation techniques is the objective of this research. Reduction in error rates and improvement in the energy efficiency is expected with this approach in addition to spectral efficiency. This paper reports a study on interference mitigation and transmission designs for groups of users in the uplinks. New formulations for the interference mitigation are produced based on the minimum mean square error and successive interference cancellation approach. By reducing the interference, the energy efficiency can be maintained and improved although the number of users per group increases. The measured error rates of this approach with user grouping achieve gains between 1 to 3 dB against that of the existing approach. With reduced complexity, the proposed scheme should be viable for practical deployment.

Abstract

Cognitive radio through dynamic spectrum allocation allows an efficient use of the radio-electric spectrum. It is a key subject for the performance of cognitive radio networks. The purpose of the present article is to develop a spectrum allocation model for cognitive wireless networks based on the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm and assess its performance in spectrum occupancy traces obtained from monitoring the spectrum using the energy detection technique. Results show a reduction in the number of spectral handoff with no excessive execution times.

Abstract

Identifying the local time scale of the torrential rainfall pattern through Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) is useful to separate the trend and noise components. However, SSA poses two main issues which are torrential rainfall time series data have coinciding singular values and the leading components from eigenvector obtained from the decomposing time series matrix are usually assesed by graphical inference lacking in a specific statistical measure. In consequences to both issues, the extracted trend from SSA tended to flatten out and did not show any distinct pattern.  This problem was approached in two ways. First, an Iterative Oblique SSA (Iterative O-SSA) was presented to make adjustment to the singular values data. Second, a measure was introduced to group the decomposed eigenvector based on Robust Sparse K-means (RSK-Means). As the results, the extracted trend using modification of SSA appeared to fit the original time series and looked more flexible compared to SSA.

Abstract

In this paper describes a simple model for tunnel junction (GaAs) between the top cell (GaAs) and bottom cell (Ge) of cascade solar cells. We theoretically studied the electrical characteristics (IV) of GaAs tunnel diode with the accounting program MATLAB for doping concentration of the junction after Using this model between two cascaded solar cell (GaAs / Ge) and we calculate the electrical characteristics and performance using AMPS-1D software. The conduction properties of this tunnel diode show good ohmic behavior and low contact resistance.

Abstract

Identify objects based on modeling the human visual system, as an effective method in intelligent identification, has attracted the attention of many researchers. Although the machines have high computational speed but are very weak as compared to humans in terms of diagnosis. Experience has shown that in many areas of image processing, algorithms that have biological backing had more simplicity and better performance. The human visual system, first select the main parts of the image which is provided by the visual featured model, then pays to object recognition which is a hierarchical operations according to this, HMAX model is also provided. HMAX object recognition model from the group of hierarchical models without feedback that its structure and parameters selected based on biological characteristics of the visual cortex. This model is a hierarchical model neural network with four layers, is composed of alternating layers that are simple and complex. Due to the high complexity of the human visual system is virtually impossible to replicate it. For each of the above, separate models have been proposed but in the human visual system, this operation is performed seamlessly, thus, by combining the principles of these models is expected to be closer to the human visual system and obtain a higher recognition rate. In this paper, we introduce an architecture to classify images based on a combination of previous work is based on the basic operation of the visual cortex. According to the results presented, the proposed model compared with the main HMAX model has a much higher recognition rate. Simulations was performed on the database of Caltech101.

Abstract

Incorporating many Distributed Generators (DGs) technologies in power system networks has grown rapidly in recent years. Distributed generation (DG) plays a key role in reducing power loss and enhancing the voltage profile in radial distribution networks. However, inappropriate DGs site or size may cut network efficiency; moreover, injecting harmonics is one of the integration concerns of inverter-based DGs. Two-procedure based approach is introduced in this paper. The first procedure solves the DGs siting and sizing problem, as a multi-objective one by improving the voltage profile of the whole distribution network and also reducing its power loss. A weighted sum method is presented to create the Pareto optimal front in this procedure and get the compromised solution by applying a novel metaheuristic optimizer, named Crow Search Algorithm (CSA). A modification on CSA is also proposed and applied to improve its performance. The achieved solution for inverter-based DGs placement and size is checked in the second procedure to make sure the accepted voltage THD at all buses by implementing detailed simulation for the tested system using Matlab/Simulink. The proposed approach has been tested on IEEE 33-bus radial distribution system with photovoltaic DGs. To confirm the superiority of the modified CSA algorithm in terms of quality of solution, its achieved results are compared with the results offered by the original CSA algorithm and published results of some other nature-inspired algorithms.

Abstract

BGP is a vital routing protocol for the communication amongst autonomous systems in the internet and has been broadly applied in all categories of large scale network. The inter-domain routing protocol (BGP) shows slow convergence, which effects on many internet applications due to its high convergence delay. The network operators broadly use different MRAI timers in BGP routers to deal with the issue of growing convergence time of the network. The variation in MRAI timer and its impact on network convergence and update messages has been broadly studied over the years. The increasing size of autonomous systems leads to rise in number of MRAI timers. Hence, the optimum use of MRAI timers can decrease the problem of slow convergence and necessity of huge number of MRAI timers. The proposed system uses the ckle minimum route advertisement interval timer (FMRAI) for fast update of routing table, which leads to reduce the convergence time of a network. In comparison with static MRAI timer of 30s the FMRAI timer leads to better result in terms of convergence time and number of update messages.

Abstract

With the development of space technology and more and more space experiments, it has brought forward higher requests for memory of hard-recovered solid-state recorders. Therefore, Recovery of the memory becomes more important. Aiming at the disadvantages of present ways of recycling, we introduce a real-time GPS positioning wireless beacon can be applied on memory recovery. This paper introduces the principle of the system, circuit, and the function that can realized. Experimental results show that the beacon in a static environment and dynamic environment had a good performance in GPS positioning, and a high positioning accuracy. Abstract

A new method for pitch detection of secondary spectrum is designed in the paper, the noisy speech oval (Elliptic Filter, EF) band-pass filter is designed first in this method, and then  the experience mode Decomposition(EMD)of Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is used to decompose the signal into a finite number of intrinsic mode functions (IMF), and IMF components of different scales are associated with the decomposition of the signal before calculation, the maximum of two modes associated (IMF) synthetic pitch signal detection is taken. Experimental results show that the method could be better than the traditional autocorrelation method, and cepstrum method has better results, especially with voicing obvious segment features, there is better performance of pitch detection in noisy speech, signal to noise ratio(SNR) also has good robustness in the lower sound environment. http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i12.6482

Abstract

Cross language information retrieval (CLIR) is a retrieval process in which the user fires queries in one language to retrieve information from another (different) language. The diversity of information and language barriers are the serious issues for communication and cultural exchange across the world. To solve such barriers, Cross language information retrieval system, are nowadays in strong demand. CLIR is a subset of Information Retrieval (IR) system. Information Retrieval deals with finding useful information from a large collection of unstructured, structured and semi-structured data to a user query where the query is a set of keywords. Information Retrieval can be classified into different classes such as Monolingual information retrieval, Bi-Lingual Information Retrieval, Multilingual information retrieval and Cross language information retrieval. This paper focuses on the various IR variants and techniques used in CLIR system. Further, based on available literature, a number of challenges and issues in CLIR have been identified and discussed. It gives an overview of the advantages, limitations, tools available in CLIR research. It also describes new application areas of CLIR such as medical, multimedia, question answering system etc. The need for exploring and building more specialized information system that enable speakers of an Odia language to discover valuable information beyond linguistic and cultural barriers. This study is aimed at building an experimental CLIR system between one of the under-resourced language (i.e. Odia) and one of the most commonly used online language (i.e. English) in future.
