Abstract

Two virtual windows are used to determine the path of a single uniformly moving obstacle. If the path of the obstacle crosses the two virtual windows, then its path can be easily determined. A simulation is implemented to ascertain the viability and accuracy of this technique.

Abstract

This paper presents a comparative performance of the antennas fabricated using bulk micromachining and surface micromachining process. The dielectric permittivity of crystal silicon (Si) and glass are ɛr = 11.9 and ɛr = 4.7, respectively are considered in the substrates comparison studied. The research aims to discover the best antenna performance by alternative micromachining modes for integrating with the RF harvester printed circuit design. Here, the study on micromachining process method involves the simulation study of three different structures and materials, such as Si with air gap, Si surface and glass surface based antenna. These antennas have been modelled using CST-MWS software. The micromachined antennas have been optimized operating at 5 GHz band. The parameters such as S-parameter, -10 dB bandwidth, radiation pattern, gain, directivity and VSWR are evaluated. The outcomes validate good characteristic of glass based surface micromachined antenna over the Si based for both bulk micromachined and surface micromachined antenna. The results show that the Si surface micromachined antenna is not able to reach the requirement for RF antenna specification, however, it is improved by creating the air cavity. Furthermore, the use of glass substrate has increased the antenna gain by 5.34% and the -10 dB bandwidth increased by 72.86% compared to the Si with air cavity. The glass based antenna dimension is reduced by 9.09% and 44.93% compared to Si bulk micromachined and Si surface micromachined antenna, respectively. Thus, the characteristics of the glass surface micromachined antenna are relatively appropriate for highly efficient RF energy harvester application

Abstract

128-EEA2 (Evolved Packet System Encryption Algorithm 2) is a confidentiality algorithm which is used to encrypt and decrypt block of data based on confidentiality key. This confidentiality algorithm 128-EEA2 is based on the AES-128 which is the block cipher algorithm of 128 bit in CTR mode. In this paper, we are going to replace the AES-128 block cipher algorithm by HISEC block cipher algorithm for two reasons such as reducing cost and ameliorate security factor.

Abstract

This paper presents an optimization approach of calibrating a tomato greenhouse energy model using hybrid Evolutionary Programming (EP)-EnergyPlus. The proposed methodology applies automated simulation-based approach by coupling Matlab and EnergyPlus to perform building energy simulation and obtain the best variables configuration with minimal error between the simulated and measured energy of the greenhouse. The proposed method is tested using a tomato greenhouse system located in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The greenhouse envelope is built using 0.15mm thick Transparency Plastic Film. Meanwhile, the electrical loads in the greenhouse consists of 6 exhaust fans, 2 axial fans, 5 fluorescent lamps and 1 irrigation pump. An Evolutionary Programming (EP) algorithm is chosen and programmed in Matlab to find the best configurations for optimum calibration of the greenhouse energy model. Three variables were chosen to find the best configuration which are the operating hours of Exhaust Fan, Axial Fan and Water Pump. The EP optimization algorithm in Matlab is coupled with building energy simulator, EnergyPlus using BCVTB as the coupling tool. Result shows that the EnergyPlus-EP model can provide NMBE and CV(RMSE) within the range recommended by the IPMVP protocol. The proposed method is not only requiring less computation time but also effective in searching for the best variables configuration with minimal error.

Abstract

XML has emerged as the standard for information representation over the Internet. However, most enterprises today have long secured the use of relational databases. Thus, it is crucial to map XML data into relational data to provide seamless integration between these database infrastructures. Many mapping techniques have been proposed, yet, none has provides a unified view on these techniques. Ultimately, understanding how these techniques work is important especially if one needs to decide which technique to adopt in their organization. This paper (i) reviews on some existing model-based mapping schemes focusing on how the mapping technique works, the advantages and the disadvantages, (ii) present the simulation engine to evaluate the performance of selected mapping schemes, (iii) highlight the future direction of the related area.

Abstract

We report the latest development in tunable transmitter optical sub-assembly (TOSA) and small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers based on simple and compact V-cavity laser (VCL), aiming for low-cost deployment in metro, access and data center networks. The VCL employs a half-wave coupler to achieve high side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) and the Vernier effect to achieve a wide wavelength tuning range. Full C-band tuning from 1529.55-nm to 1566.31-nm with SMSR above 36 dB is demonstrated. Since the laser does not involve any grating or epitaxial regrowth, and has a simple tuning algorithm, it allows simpler processes for fabrication and testing as compared to other widely tunable laser structures. Compact TOSAs and SFP transceiver modules have been developed for full C-band tuning with up to 93 channels at 50 GHz spacing. Transmission experiments are carried out for direct modulation with data rates from 2.5 Gbps to 8.5 Gbps. The results of reliability tests of the modules are also presented.

Abstract

The rapid development of internet and network technology followed by malicious threats and attacks on networks and computers. Intrusion detection system (IDS) was developed to solve that problems. The development of IDS using machine learning is needed for classifying the attacks. One method of the classification is Self-Organizing Map (SOM). SOM able to perform classification and visualization in learning process to gain new knowledge. However, the SOM has less efficient in learning process when applied in Big Data. This study proposes Restricted Growing SOM method with clustering reference vector (RGSOM-CRV) and Parallel RGSOM-CRV to improve SOM efficiency in classification with accuracy consideration to solve Big Data problem. Growing process in RGSOM is restricted by maximum nodes and growing threshold, the reupdate weight process will update unused reference vector when map size already maximum, these two processes solve the consuming time of regular GSOM. From the results of this research against KDD Cup 1999 dataset, proposed method Parallel RGSOM-CRV able to give 91.86% accuracy, 20.58% false alarm rate, 95.32% recall or detection rate, and precision is 94.35% and time consuming is outperform than regular Growing SOM. This proposed method is very promising to handle big data problems compared with other methods.

Abstract

An efficient, stable and reliable system to detect the unknown phase of the input sinusoidal signal is presented. The proposed design is a feedback loop consists of subtractor, peak detector and direct digital synthesizer (DDS). DDS generates a sinusoidal signal with the same frequency of input signal and with initial zero phase. An error signal is the output of subtracor after subtracting DDS signal from input signal. The peak of amplitude of error signal has a mathematical relation to the phase difference between the two input signals. Peak detector is used to extract the phase difference from error signal and passes the result to DDS to control the generated phase. The loop continues until the generated phase of DDS is the same as the input unknown phase. The proposed phase estimator has been implemented using a field programmable gate array (FPGA), consumed less power about 330 mW, and worked at 200 MHz clock.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of the local insurance in Malaysia for the period 2014-2015. The major challenge in the insurance industry is increasing competition in this market. Besides that, problematic in performance measurement to evaluate performance is another challenge in insurance industry. 24 local insurance companies involved in this study using quantitative method of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) output-orientation CCR model. This study utilizes three inputs and three outputs; operating expenses, equity capital and commission as well as net premium, net investment income, and net incurred claim. The secondary data sources were derived from official data of local insurance companies’ annual report respectively. The DEA-Solver-LV version 8 tools were used to analyze the data that have been collected to evaluate the performance of local insurance company. This DEA model allows integration of the performance for the insurance companies and provides management overall performance evaluation. The results showed that there are 8 efficient companies in 2014 and 9 efficient companies in 2015. The average efficiency score in 2014 was increased from 78.9% to 79.1% in 2015. The findings from this study will benefit the insurance associations in Malaysia, management of insurances companies and policy makers.

Abstract

This paper presents an approach for the selection of mother wavelet for classification of EEG epilepsy signals .Wavelet transform is very popular for analyzing signals in time and frequency domain. But as there are various wavelet families exist and not a one fits to all, in this study author have experimented with 51 wavelets from six different families haar (haar), daubechies (Db), symlet (Sym), coiflets (Coif), biorthogonal (Bior) and discrete meyer (Dmey). Optimal mother wavelet is selected on the basis of highest correlation between input signal and reconstructed signal. With Discrete wavelet transform four levels of decomposition have been used to create the five EEG rhythms delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma. Five features kurtosis, skew, mean, standard deviation and relative power have been extracted from each decomposed level by using the optimal mother wavelet. Statistical significance of the extracted features has been computed by Mann Whitney U test with significance level p<0.05 and statistical parameters sensitivity, specificity and accuracy for performance evaluation of the classifier have been computed. Results shown that out of six experimented wavelet families, five families with eight wavelets have qualified the correlation test.  Out of five extracted feature relative power is more statistically significant for all type of classification and all EEG bands .Classifier used is support vector machine and accuracy of classifier lies in the range of 74% to 100 % for 14 classifications between different subsets.
