Abstract

There is an assumption that develops in society that according to religion women have no place in social life and women's role is limited only in the domestic sphere. The implication is that women are not allowed to take roles in the public sphere, such as being educated as equals to men, working outside the home, even taking part in political territory. One of the modern-day Muslim scholars who interpreted the verse as a limitation on women leaving the house was Abū al-A‘lā al-Maudūdī. The author is interested in further examining his interpretation because it is classified into modern commentators but some interpretations related to women seem to be gender biased. This paper will discuss al-Maudūdī's interpretation of the QS. Al-Aḥzāb: 33 this verse is said to be the initial foothold regarding perceptions of restrictions on the movement of women in the public sphere resulting from an understanding of the results of the interpretation of orders for women to always remain at home. Then examine how this interpretation affects women's political activities.

Abstract

This paper discusses the views of John Wansbrough, about the authenticity of the Qur'an. The issue raised in this paper is Wansbrough's claim that the Qur'an is an imitation of the Bible. In answering the problem of library research, the researcher uses the description-analytic method through categorization or grouping in accordance with the data obtained. The study found that John Wansbrough's conclusion that the Qur'an was an imitation of the Bible was that the sources of the Qur'an were allegedly derived from previous religious sources, namely Judaism and Christianity. One of the evidences revealed by Wansbrough is by referring to the story of the Prophet Muhammad in QS. al-Isrā’: 1. According to him the story of isrā is a story taken from the previous religion, the exodus of Moses. He strengthened his opinion by explaining that the pronunciation of asrā bi ‘abdihi found elsewhere explained the story of Moses and also the next verse in the QS. al-Isrā’: 2 it shows the story of Moses.

Abstract

This study examines the verses of tasybīh according to ‘Abd al-Karīm al-Qusyairī such as ‘Arsy Allāh, Yad Allāh, and Wajh Allāh. The question that will be discussed is how al-Qusyairī interprets the verses of tasybīh in Laṭā’if al-Isyārāt. To get maximum results, the authors use descriptive-analytical methods, data are collected and compiled then analyzed. The primary source in this study is Laṭā’if al-Isyārāt, by ‘Abd al-Karīm al-Qusyairī. The secondary sources are the books of al-Qusyairī such as Risālah al-Qusyairīyah, Tartib al-Sulūk, Arba’ Rasā’il fī al-Taṣawuf. The results of this study indicate that 'Arsy according to al-Qusyairī is divided into two, namely: 'Arsy al-Samā' (where Allah resides) and 'Arsy Rahmān ('Arsy earth) located in the hearts of the ahl al-Tauhid (people those who insult Allah), whereas for the words Yad Allāh, and Wajh Allāh are ordained with the power held by Allah.

Abstract

The Islamic study who until now still raises the pro-cons is about the state model. Sayyid Quṭb, Taqī al-Din al-Nabhāni and Abū A‘lā Al-Maudūdī, are scientists who conclude that Islam has a state model, namely khilāfah islāmiyyah. This first group closes the space for possible state models other than khilāfah islāmiyyah. Until often this idea raises acts of terrorism and anarchism. While in other groups, such as ‘Alī‘ Abd Rāziq, Nurcholis Madjid and Gus Dur are a series voicing their ideas that Islam does not have a particular state model. This article to find the nature of the state model in Islam. The approach used is the interpretation approach maqāṣidi Ṭāhir Ibn ‘Āsyūr. As a result, the Islamic state model in the Koran is the state provided that it meets the principles of the state according to Islam, such as justice, deliberation, charity, social security, peace, security and equality. Whatever country model, as long as it still holds the six principles above, then the essence is the model of an Islamic state.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This article elucidates several theories of scripture to view the Quran as the word of God and as a holy book responded by its readers. By reading scripture, oral and aural, inspirational, deductive and inductive theories, this article has found out that the Quran enters most of these theories. If Smith proposes the theory that scripture is a human activity, then the Quran is one of the most widely received scriptures in the form of various interpretations that greatly influences the emergence of Muslim religious practices. Smith even called the Quran a holy book par excellent. Scripture theories that were born in the context of Christian theology turned out to provide surprising evidence that the holy book in Christianity and Islam had several things in common: similar in terms of revelation, although in different forms, similar in terms of responding to the holy book, and similar in that the holy book had a strong influence on its adherents.

Abstract

We will examine the differences of opinion regarding interfaith greetings between the (MoRA) Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). Therefore, we discuss this debate and relate it to the discourse of moderation. We will conduct a critical discourse analysis using Norman Fairclough's theory. We will code data from the websites of both institutions and news media to investigate the social and cultural background, as well as the three dimensions of discourse: text, discursive practice, and social practice. Finally, we will examine the process of discourse production and consumption. The results show that the MUI produces this discourse based on its ideological heritage, which tends to securitize theological views that are more liberal. However, in the fatwa issued in 2024, the MUI tends to limit itself to “respecting differences” alone. This differs from the Ministry of Religion, which is more inclined to embrace religious pluralism.
