Abstract

Contoh respresentative dua ratus jenis kayu yang berasal dari beberapa daerah di Indonesia diteliti sifat keawetannya terhadap serangan penggerak di laut. Masing-masing jenis kayu dibuat contoh uji berukuran 30x5x2,5 cm, dirakit dengan tali plastik dan dipasang di perairan Pulau Rambut serta diamati setelah 6 bulan. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut dibuat lima klasifikasi keawetan berdasarkan intensitas serangan pada masing-masing contoh uji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hampir semua contoh uji mendapat serangan berat oleh Pholadidae dan Teredinidae. Lima jenis (2,5%) tahan terhadap penggerek di laut, dimasukkan ke dalam katagori kelas awet I, dan 10 jenis (5%) dimasukkan ke dalam kelas awet II. Sementara itu, sisanya 26 jenis (13%) termasuk kelas awet III, 50 jenis (25%) termasuk kelas IV, dan 109 jenis (54,5%) termasuk kelas V.

Abstract

The quality of machining properties of six Indonesian wood species, i.e. meranti merah (Shorea selanica BI .), medang lesa (Cinnamomum parthenoxylon Meissn.), dahu (Draconto-melon mangiferum BI.), kaya (Khaya anthoteca Cdc.), bawang (Melia excelsa Jack.), and merawan (Hopea odorata , from Darmaga Experimental forest, has been investigated. The testing was carried out based on air dried specimen. The results revealed that the planing and moulding quality varies from good (II) to very good classes(1); turning and sanding belong to good class (II). while boring quality varies from medium (III) to good (II) classes.

Abstract

Kayu galam (Melaleuca leucadendra L.) secara tradisional telah digunakan untuk bahan bangunan, arang, dan kayu bakar. Saat ini, limbah kulit kayu galam belum dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat, ditumpuk, atau dibakar. Kulit kayu gelam ini berpotensi untuk digunakan sebagai bahan pembuatan papan partikel. Tulisan ini mempelajari sifat-sifat papan partikel dari kulit kayu galam. Kulit kayu galam dengan potongan 2 x 4 x 6 cm dibuat papan partikel dengan perekat Urea Formaldehida (UF) dengan tiga variasi besaran yaitu 11%, 13%, dan 15% dari berat bahan. Campuran kulit kayu galam dan perekat UF ditekan secara hidrolik pada suhu 110 - 1200C dengan tekanan 15 kg/cm2 selama 15 menit sebelum dikeringanginkan. Pengujian sifat fisis dan mekanis papan partikel dilakukan berdasarkan Standar Nasional Indonesia Nomor 03-2105-2006. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar air papan partikel antara 9,50 - 12,30%, dan pengembangan tebal antara 2 - 11,35%. Kerapatan papan partikel antara 0,68 - 0,77 g/cm3, keteguhan lentur 2041,98 - 11210,91 kg/cm2, keteguhan patah antara 40,49 -104,23 kg/cm2, keteguhan cabut sekrup 44 - 84 kg, dan keteguhan rekat internal antara 0,27 - 0,65 kg/cm2. Berdasarkan sifat mekanisnya, papan partikel yang terbuat dari kulit galam dengan 15% perekat UF memenuhi persyaratan produk papan partikel SNI.03-2105-2006.

Abstract

Sumber daya biomassa terutama dari limbah industri kehutanan seperti tandan kosong kelapa sawit (TKKS) tersedia melimpah. Saat ini pemanfaatan TKKS sebagai produk pirolisis masih terbatas pada produk arang, arang aktif, dan briket arang. Di sisi lain penelitian pembuatan bio-oil dari biomassa menggunakan metode pirolisis cepat menghasilkan produk yang mengandung hidrokarbon dan nilai kalor yang meningkat, akan tetapi jumlah katalis yang digunakan lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan biomassa. Tulisan ini mempelajari data dan informasi karakteristik bio-oil dari tandan kosong kelapa sawit melalui penambahan katalis Ni/NZA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penambahan 6% katalis menghasilan bio-oil yang optimal, yaitu rendemen sebesar 30,27%, pH 2,94, berat jenis 1,068, viskositas 44 cSt, nilai kalor 29,38 MJ/kg, dan daya nyala dengan kategori sedang. Bio-oil yang dihasilkan didominasi oleh asam terutama asam asetat, fenol, benzene, atau toluene, serta terdapat senyawa golongan hidrokarbon alkena seperti hexadecene dan hidrokarbon aromatik naphthalene.

Abstract

This paper reports the result of an experiment on the treatment of different forestry wastes, i.e., the sawdust of Hevea brasiliensis Pinus merkusii, Paraserianthes falcataria and the leaves of melaleuca leucodendron with Schizophyllum commune Fr for 7 weeks.The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of white-rot fungi inoculation to the decrease of chemical components like cellulose, lignin and hemicellulose.the results reveal that after treating for 7 weeks, sengon sawdust still has a very .high cellullose content of 22.55% in rubber tree sawdust, lignin and hemicellulose contents are 32.66% and 47.39%, respectively.After decreasing chemical components. Lignocellulose waste could be fermented by solid state fermentation for biogas.

Abstract

Wood preservative penetration and retention on five wood species using hot and cold bath process was studied. Wood samples measuring 5 cm x 5 cm x 60 cm were immersed in BFCA preservative solution under temperature of 70° C for nil (control), one, two and three hours then cooled for a day.The result indicates that red meranti (Shorea platycados V.Sl .) is more permeable compared with other species (bangkirai, bungur, damar laut and kapur). In red meranti, one hour immersion in hot preservative yields penetration which conforms with the SKI C-bo-008 Standard for wood building, whereas in other 4 species, the treatment does not seem to be more superior. compared with cold immersion method.

Abstract

There is a need to classify fire  wood for flue/  based on energy content.   This research is conducted  to categorized fire wood species using discriminant  analysis.Data of which collected from  each of  research areas are plant  varieties for  fire  wood,  age classification,  annual  volume  increase,   specific gravity,  calor value and volume  of  extractive  elements.Variety of  woods used for fire  wood are Akasia  (Acacia   auriculiformis),   Akasia  (Acacia decurrens),  Kaliandra  (Calliandra  callothyrsus), Gamal  (Gliricidia  maculata),  Kemlandingan   (Leucaena  glauca),  Turi  (Sesbania   grandiflora)   and  Jati  (Tectona  grandis). For  the purpose   of analysis of the type of relationship  between  annual volume  increase (X1), specific  gravity  (X2),  calor value (X3),  volume  of extractive  elements (X4) and the adaptation order of plant  varieties for fire  wood is clasified by the discriminant function.The function is also used for  determining adaptation  order of utilization  of plant  varieties for fire  wood.Based on the discriminant  analysis it can be expressed  as:Yj = 0.2148X1j + 9.7184X2j + 0.7231 X3j - 6.7121 X4j..................................................................(1).                                               The result of average substitutions of annual volume increase, as specific gravity,  ca/or value increase and volume of extractive elements  decreased as described by the equation  (I).  It can be said that (the adaptation  order of plant  varieties for  fire  wood) produced  from   the most  to the least based on its number of heat of combustion  at the plantation  age 2, 3 and 4 years are Akasia   (Acacia decurrens), Akasia  (Acacia auriculiformis), Kaliandra  (Calliandra callethyrsus),   Gamal  (Gliricidia  maculata),  Kemlandingan  (Leucaena   glauca),  Turi  (Sesbania  grandiflora)   and  Jati (Tectona  grandis).

Abstract

An investigation of felling waste was carried out at three forest enterproses in North Sumatera. In each forest enterprise, the operation weretrained before data collection was conducted.The result reveals that training has significant effect on reducing the volume of felling waste. The average felling waste before and after training are respectively 0.705 m3/ tree and 0.185 m3/tree.It is therefore recommended that operator needs to be trained before.

Abstract

Wood blocks of karri and jarrah  measuring 10 mm (radial) x 25 mm (longitudinal) x  100 mm (tangential) were ovendried for  48 hours at 105°C prior  to treatment.  Acetylation  was carried out in 250 ml- reactor  vessels using a 25  %  (v/v) solution of acetic anhydride in xylene.  Three reaction times, i.e., 8, 16 and 24 hours were used for  each wood type. Treatment results are expressed in terms  of weight gain (VG) and volumetric gain (VG). The ability  of treatment to restrict  dimensional changes is expressed as anti­ swelling efficiency (ASE). Results showed that the weight and volume of both eucalypts specimens substantially increased after acety- lation. In all cases, karri specimens showed higher weight gain, volumetric gain and ASE than jarrah.  The effectiveness of acetylation increased with increases in reaction time. Volumetric swelling reduction of more thaw 80% was found in the two regrowth eucalvots.

Abstract

Compared   to  Santalum   album  L.,  the  wood  of  Exocarpus Latifolia R.Br. is lower  in quality.  It  is there necessary  to investigate   the  difference   of  their  wood  features   to overcome   the  unwanted   substitution or fraud possibilities.Microscopic  study  reveals that  there  are many  similarities  in wood  anatomy   between   Santalum album  L.  and Exocarpus  latifolia R. Br. They are anatomically different   only  in pore  diameter  and pore  frequency. The wood  of  Exocarpus latifolia R.Br.  has larger pore  diameter   but  lower pore  frequency. Some   differences   were  also  ob1erved  on  gross  features   of  wood.   Exocarpus latifolia   R. Br.  has  darker  sapwood color,  coarser wood  texture  and  less aromatic odour.
