Abstract

Premarital screening is an important strategy to identify potential health risks before marriage and improve reproductive health outcomes. However, its utilization remains low, partly due to limited knowledge among prospective couples and the suboptimal use of effective educational media such as flipcharts. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of flipchart-based health education in improving knowledge of premarital screening among prospective couples at UPTD Health Center I, West Denpasar. This study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. A total of 30 respondents (15 couples) were selected using consecutive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The mean knowledge score increased from 62.83 to 90.83. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.05), with 29 respondents demonstrating improvement. These findings indicate that the flipchart-based health education is effective in improving premarital screening knowledge. Therefore, the use of visual educational media is recommended to support health education programs in primary health care settings.

Abstract

Pregnant women who experience nausea and vomiting during the first trimester are said to have emesis gravidarum. Changes in progesterone and estrogen levels are considered contributing factors to this condition. Complementary therapies such as pericardium acupressure and peppermint aromatherapy can be used to treat emesis gravidarum. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of pericardium acupressure and peppermint aromatherapy on nausea and vomiting experienced by first-trimester pregnant women in Ciadeg Village. The quasi-experimental process used a two-group pre-test and post-test design. The overall study sample consisted of 32 first-trimester pregnant women respondents who experienced emesis gravidarum. Peppermint aromatherapy and pericardium acupressure had a significant impact, according to bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test, with a p-value of 0.000 <0.05. According to the study findings, the average emesis gravidarum score was 8.81 before receiving peppermint aromatherapy and 4.63 after the intervention. The average emesis gravidarum score was 7.87 before pericardium acupressure point 6, and 5.12 after the intervention. Therefore, this complementary therapy can significantly reduce the incidence of emesis gravidarum in first trimester pregnant women in Ciadeg Village in 2025. The goal is to reduce emesis gravidarum and improve maternal understanding of emesis gravidarum treatment.

Abstract

One of the reproductive health problems that can increase the risk of unwanted pregnancy is unmet need in the Family Planning (FP)  program. Despite having the desire to delay or limit pregnancy, some women of reprpductive age in the Pujon Community Health Center, Malang Regency, still do not use contraceptive methods. This study aims to analyze the effect of infographic-based booklets as a counseling medium on the knowledge and attitudes of women of reproductive age (WRA) regarding unmet need. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 28 respondents, divided into a control and an intervention group, with 14 respondents in each group. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires before and after the intervention, and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that after the provision of infographic-based booklets, there were differences between the control and intervention groups in knowledge (p = 0.000) and attitudes (p= 0.050). Based on these results, it can be concluded that the infographic-based booklet is effective in increasing knowledge and forming positive attitudes of women of reproductive age regarding unmet needs.

Abstract

The active phase of the initial stage of labor is characterized by escalating pain intensity due to uterine contractions and cervical dilation. Inadequate pain management can lead to significant discomfort and stress for laboring women. Preliminary observations at independent midwifery practices Yulis Indriana indicated that most mothers experienced moderate to severe pain during this phase. Nonpharmacological interventions, such as moxibustion therapy at the SP6 (sanyinjiao) acupressure point, may reduce pain. This study aimed to analyze differences in labor pain intensity before and after moxibustion therapy during the active phase. A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design was conducted, involving 32 respondents selected through accidental sampling, with 16 in the intervention group and 16 in the control group. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (0-10). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with a significance level of p < 0.05. The intervention group exhibited a significant reduction in pain intensity from 7.88 ± 0.719 to 5.13 ± 0.957 (p < 0.001), whereas the control group showed no significant change, from 7.69 ± 0.873 to 7.75 ± 0.775 (p = 0.317). A significant difference between groups was also identified (p < 0.001). Moxibustion therapy at SP6 may reduce labor pain intensity and can be considered a complementary intervention in midwifery practice.

Abstract

Low birth weight in infants has a risk of stunting 3 times greater than normal birth weight. The incidence of low birth weight in infants is caused by insufficient nutritional intake received by the fetus. Nutritional status during pregnancy can be seen by examining the mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), hemoglobin levels, and pre-pregnancy BMI. In 2024, there were 3.6% of babies born with low birth weight at Sukasada 1 Community Health Center. This study aims to determine the relationship between MUAC, Hb levels, and BMI during pregnancy with low birth weight at Sukasada 1 Community Health Center. This study used a cross-sectional design conducted from July to October 2025. The study population was 500 respondents using a correlative sample size formula which resulted in a study sample of 104 respondents. This study used secondary data through the Sukasada 1 Community Health Center register with Fisher's Exact Test. The results showed that the incidence of low birth weight at Sukasada 1 Community Health Center for the period January-July 2025 was 8.7%. This study concluded that there was no significant relationship between mid-upper arm circumference, hemoglobin levels, and BMI with the incidence of low birth weight (LBW).

Abstract

One of the government’s efforts to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted infections among premarital couples is the requirement to undergo screening at community health centers and attend premarital counseling at the Office of Religious Affairs before obtaining a marriage schedule. This study aimed to determine the effect of video-based educational media on the knowledge of premarital couples regarding sexually transmitted infections. This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 38 premarital couples selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire on knowledge of sexually transmitted infections. Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon test. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score of 14.74 after the intervention, indicating a significant effect of video-based education on the knowledge of premarital couples (p-value = 0.001). These findings demonstrate that video-based educational media significantly improves knowledge regarding sexually transmitted infections among premarital couples. Therefore, the Office of Religious Affairs is recommended to provide video-based educational materials before premarital counseling to improve the knowledge of prospective couples.

Abstract

Developmental disorders in toddlers remain a global concern, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. Nutritional problems increase the risk of developmental delay by up to 4.75 times. Data from the Sleman District Health Office (2024) reported that 5.2% of toddlers in the working area of the Puskesmas Seyegan experienced nutritional problems and had never undergone developmental screening. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nutritional status and child development among children aged 2–5 years in this area. This quantitative descriptive study used an analytic cross-sectional design, involving 103 samples selected from a population of 1.581 toddlers using the Slovin formula, recorded in December 2025. Primary data were collected through anthropometric measurements (weight and height) to assess nutritional status and developmental screening using the KPSP instrument. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed a p-value < 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between nutritional status and child development. Most toddlers with normal nutritional status had normal development (84.9%), while those with abnormal nutritional status were more likely to experience doubtful (41.2%) and deviant development (11.8%). In conclusion, nutritional status is significantly associated with toddler development.
