Abstract

This research aims to find out the nost common of social media sites that can influence on students’ English language skills and to determine the influence of social media sites toward English language skills of English Departement students at Sintuwu Maroso University. The method uses in this research is quantitative research with a survey design. Data is collected from questionnaire. 69 respondents are participated in filling out the questionnaire. Meanwhile, data is analysed uses SPSS version 25. The results of the research show that: 1) YouTube is the most common social media sites that can influence students’ English language skills as much as 68.1%, and 2) The influence of social media sites on students’ Eenglish language skills is 74.53%. It can be seen from the average value of the indicators, namely the easeof using social media sites (4.19), the influence of Instagram on writing skills (3.40) and reading skills (3.56), the influence of Facebook on writing skills (3.41) and reading skills (3.48), the influence of YouTube on listening and speaking skills (4.32), the positive influence of using social media sites in English learning (4.34). incorporation of social media sites in English learning (4.00), and the negative influence of using social media sites in English learning (2.90)

Abstract

The objective of this research was to describe the process of the teaching and learning Englishused by teacher at SMP Negeri 1 Poso Pesisir Utara in Academic year 2022/2023. I this study the researchers using a qualitative approach to the type of descriptive study. the researcher collected the data from English teachers in SMP Negeri 1 Poso Pesisir Utara that have been using the curriculum 2013 in the process of learning. The eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Poso Pesisir Utara to describe teaching activities that are often used by teachersand the students. The Procedure data collection in this study was used Observation, Interview and Documentation. Data Analyzed was used Miles and Huberman ,theory framework for qualitative data analysis by three components: data reduction, data display, and drawing or verifying conclusion. the results of the English teaching and learning process in the previous chapter, it can be seen that the process of English learning uses steps of the teaching learning process in class include the opening activity, the main activity, and the closing activity. The primary activities are watching, questioning, investigating, accommodating, and communicating.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the STAD learning strategy on students' motivation as proven by hypothesis testing. The study uses a survey design. The research type in this study is quantitative. The population of this study are 225 and the samples are 59 students.The result of this research, it shows that STAD influences Students' Motivation 40.1%. This indicates that the null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. Thus, the STAD learning strategy influences to improve learning outcomes and student enthusiasm for participating in learning ‘’ increasing students' sense of self-confidence

Abstract

This study explores students' perceptions of using TikTok as a medium for learning English at SMAN 4 Poso. Employing a quantitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires and interviews from 64 students. The findings indicate that students have a positive perception of TikTok's use, with an average perception category reaching 77.10%. Students feel that TikTok provides engaging and easily accessible learning content, enhancing their motivation and English language skills. Although there are some challenges, such as the short duration of videos and the speed of explanations, TikTok is generally regarded as an effective tool to support English language learning.

Abstract

: This study aims to find out the teacher’s speech act during the learning process that is taking places in class X of SMA Negeri 2 Poso. This research uses descriptive qualitative as the research design and use the theory of Speech Act by Searle (1979). The subject of the research is an English teacher at SMA Negeri 2 Poso. The data are collected through field notes, recording, and interview instruments during teaching-learning process at the classroom. The result of the research shows that from 34 data of the teacher’s utterances, there are four types of speech act based on Searle’s theory, for instance, 27 utterances of directive speech act, 6 utterances of Assertive speech act, 4 utterances of Expressive speech act, and 3 utterances of Declarative speech act.
