Abstract

This study aimed to discover the correlation between place attachment and prosocial behavior among social volunteers, including who is still students (adolescent). Social volunteers are those who help others voluntarily. The activities they do can be classified as prosocial behavior, which means a set of voluntary action aimed at benefiting others. One’s action can be affected by environment and when one feels attach to the environment, one may form place attachment. Place attachment is an affective bond between a person to a place. Place attachment consists of two dimensions, in which both dimensions have different form of attachment. Place dependence can be formed if a place can fulfilled one’s goal. Whereas, place identity can be formed because a place has a symbolic meaning for a person. Result in this study showed that r = 0,043 and p < 0,198; which means there is no correlation between place dependence and prosocial behavior among social volunteers. Result in this study also showed that r = 0,266 and p = 0,000; which means place identity has a positive correlation with prosocial behavior among social volunteers.Keywords: Place attachment, prosocial behavior, social volunteers

Abstract

The existence of special needs students in the school can be perceived variously by the school community. The aimed of this study regarding gratitude to the students who attend the school setting inclusions, however students who become participants in this study is not the students with special needs. The psychological constructs in this research is gratitude. Gratitude is the appreciation experienced by individuals when somebody does something kind or helpful for them when looking at the existence of students with special needs in their classes. This research using non-experimental, quantitative descriptive. The research instrument used is the gratitude questionnaire-six item form (GQ-6) which is adapted to the context of the study (McCullough, Emmons & Tsang, 2016), consisting of six items. Participants were 340 persons (59.1% female and 40.9% male), and sampling technique using with non probability sampling or convenience. The results showed that there were no differences by gender in term of gratitude.Keywords: gratitude, students with special needs, inclusive education, students

Abstract

Early childhood is a time that is most appropriate in developing the physical aspect-motor, cognitive, social-emotional, language, morality and religion. And one of the appropriate media to convey and train the child's emotional intelligence is the storytelling, and the family has a central role to determine the success of the child's achievements in managing emotions. Because fairy tales can help children cope with life by training patterns of thought and experience they interact with the environment (Benediktsdóttir, 2014). Through fairy tales help children not to be afraid of change and to be independent. The subject in this study is four mothers who always interact with their children. Within families that the basics of child development are formed, and in this case the parent is the key factor. In this connection, it is necessary to systematically and strategically efforts to develop and train the emotional intelligence of children through fairy tales.Keywords: Fairy tales, emotional intelligence, early child

Abstract

Previous research showed that attributional feedback could enhance academic self-concept in targeted subject. However, research in Indonesia about intervention to academic self-concept is still limited (Wahyuningsih, 2010) and had been done with special need participants (Tarmidi & Akbar-Hawidi, 2009). This research aimed to test the effectiveness of “Math and Me” training based on attributional feedback in enhancing academic self-concept, especially on mathematic subject among grade 7 student at Junior High School. The participants of this research were 3 students in grade 7 with low score of academic self-concept. The research design was one group pretest-posttest design. Pretest-posttest conducted on academic self-concept scores. Based on data analysis, academic self-concept scores significantly enhance after training. Participants also show more positive attitude, such as more open and actively involved in the mathematic learning processes. The result indicates that “Math and Me” training based on attributional feedback is effective in enhancing academic self-concept, especially on mathematic subject among grade 7 student at junior high school.Keywords: "Math and Me” training with attributional feedback, academic self-concept

Abstract

Currently the number of Indonesian students study abroad is increasing, especially in the United States. American study program is different with Indonesian, include distance, time differences, and also American culture. This situation could cause a problem in adjustment, language and culture. Parents need to pay more attention to their role in adolescent adaptation. Parenting practices can have a direct impact on child's behavior. Another factor is the proximity and discipline from their parents so that children can master the competencies and self-regulation. This study aims to determine the relationship perceptions of parenting practices with the adaptation of Indonesian students in the United States. Researchers used the test tool Adaptation College Student Questionnaire (SACQ) to measure the level of adaptation. Perception of parenting practices on adolescent developed by Baker and Siryk (in Waller, 2009). The study involved 57 Indonesian students currently studying in the United States. The results indicate perceptions of parenting did not have a significant relationship with the adaptation of Indonesian students in the United States. The adaptation rate of Indonesian students tends to be high. The perceived level of parental practices on the students tends to be in the moderate level although there are different parenting factors. There was a significant relationship between perception of parenting practices of the father with social adaptation and adaptation of the students.Keywords : Parenting, Student adaptation
