Abstract

Diesel emissions from ships are some of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).  This paper proposes the feasibility of implementing grid-like batteries- onboard ocean-going vessels along with an offshore electric charging station (OECS) to offer fully electric sailing across longer distances. The (OECS) is proposed to be built in deep waters along commercial shipping routes. Such an installation has a floating solar plant, in conjunction with a battery energy storage system to meet the charging demands of an all-electric ship (AES).   The technology was evaluated based on a case study of an AES cargo vessel traveling between Mumbai and Dubai with a one-stop midway (at an OECS) for recharging batteries. When compared to a diesel ship, the AES showed savings of  5,627,293liters of diesel/yr and a reduction of 19,823 tonnes of CO2. The study shows that the integration of an OECS along with the AES concept is feasible, and represents a major milestone in bringing emission-free technology to the marine sector.

Abstract

Recently, the global marine logistics industry has changed significantly because of the global movement of goods. Where the amount of available data and attention paid to extensive data analysis in various topics exponentially grows, it is possible to obtain vast amounts of marine BD. However, the collection of BD groups is difficult to organize and frequently redundant. This is why the database can be so important. If these BD are effectively utilized, great innovation can be achieved in the marine industry. In this study, we develop a marine logistics database to ship basic planning support in the future. The database under study consists of BD sets, i.e. port, ship, route, international trade, and ship operation information from automatic identification system data. As a result, the relational database was developed. The effectiveness of the database is evaluated and extracted data from the database necessary for ship basic planning is discussed.

Abstract

The paper uses more recent scientific and regulatory developments on the damage stability of ships to analyze damage stability of a vessel. The use of CAD in the analysis of several bulky and complex problems facing the maritime sector with respect to ship design and construction has helped reduce human error while more efforts are still made which will possibly eradicate these errors and ensure efficiency in the design and construction of ships. Some softwares are available in the market to support this analysis, as this paper searches to expose the effect on the design and the positive impact on design CAD can if properly integrated into the industry, to this end we used an already existing model of the vessel, made a model of it using the Bentley MaxSurf and then made floodable length analysis using various bulkheads at the fore, aft, and midship region. Thus, generating the graph of floodable length and the various allowable floodable length parameters at different stations.

Abstract

The background of the research is the limited readiness of ships at the Jakarta Military Sea Lift Unit caused by the age of most of the ships more than 20 years. The purpose of the study was to analyze the strategy of maintaining ship readiness through system maintenance activities. The research method is quantitative with a survey approach with an analysis model based on Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT). Research respondents are purposive sampling that have relevance in the field of ship maintenance. The results showed that to improve ship readiness through maintenance systems, was carried out by increasing the capabilities of human resources, Management Planned maintenance systems, The availability of spare parts, and the capability of the Ship Maintenance Facility Unit. The improvement of personnel capabilities and skills is carried out through training activities in collaboration with the original engine manufacturer (OEM). This ship maintenance system is based on a planned maintenance system supported by the availability of spare parts and the capability of Ship Maintenance Facility Units. Contribution of the research to maintain the readiness of ships to support operational activities, which has implications for the readiness and sustainability.

Abstract

Renewable energy is a type of alternative energy that can be utilized to generate electricity. Wind energy is one of the renewable energy sources. Because of Indonesia's equatorial location, the wind characteristics are moderate, with wind direction and speed changing frequently. To harvest wind energy, it is therefore vital to diversify the types of wind turbines. A screw turbine, also known as an Archimedes screw turbine or a screw turbine, is a type of wind turbine that is often employed in micro hydropower plants. The great efficiency of this turbine is a benefit. This screw turbine will use a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT). The advantage of using the horizontal axis over the vertical axis is that the rotor's efficiency is higher. The screw turbine was changed in this study by adding flaps to boost torque and rpm performance while also increasing wind catchment. The model design with the inclusion of 3 cm flaps with a flap angle of 30° has a high torque and angular velocity with a torque value of 0.00609 Nm and an angular velocity of 12.55 rad/s at an airflow velocity of 3.4 m/s, according to the results obtained from model simulation using CFD (119,84 RPM). Power Coefficient (CP) = 0.00659, Torque Coefficient (CQ) = 0.01990, and Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) = 0.331357.

Abstract

seaweed contains bioactive compounds that can be used to support human health. One of the seaweeds that are widely found in Indonesia is seaweed / brown algae. An example of brown algae, one of which is Padina australis. Padina australis is a seaweed that contains many bioactive compounds, such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and antioxidants. However, Padina australis is not widely applied and used in processed food products. So in seaweed research, Padina australis is used as seaweed tea. In this study, Padina australis seaweed tea was carried out the difference in length of immersion with hot water and the treatment of immersion time is 0 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes. The bioactive compounds studied are alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and antioxidant activity. The results showed that the difference in immersion time there are bioactive components in the form of phytomias contained in Padina australis tea, among others: alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins in each treatment (0 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes). In the test the highest antioxidant activity on P4 treatment (15 minutes) was 47.7% and for the lowest on treatment P2 (5 minutes) by 44.8%.

Abstract

Indonesia as an archipelagic country consists of thousands of islands and has a large sea area so that the required mode of transportation is sea transportation as a means of mobility and driving national economic development. In addition, Indonesian waters serve as a liaison between cities, as well as between countries. As a border on the island of Sulawesi, the city of Bitung is a link between Indonesia and the city of Davao City in the Philippines. For all of this, security for shipping, especially at the border, is needed to support the smooth delivery of goods by using Ferry Ro/Ro ships so that sea transportation activities in general and trade and economic activities between the two countries can run smoothly because maritime safety greatly affects the continuation of development efforts
