Abstract

This study aims to analyze Fahruddin Faiz’s reflective dakwah strategy in grounding Islamic philosophy within contemporary Islamic discourse. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, this research conducts content analysis of sixty episodes of “Ngaji Filsafat” as well as Faiz’s published works. The findings reveal that Faiz’s reflective dakwah is constructed through dialogical–interrogative methods, systematic philosophical argumentation, contextualization of classical Islamic philosophical concepts, and conceptual simplification that renders abstract ideas accessible to wider audiences. The study also identifies a strong transformative dimension that shifts religious understanding from merely knowing to being, facilitated through critical consciousness, paradigm transformation, and the integration of reflection and praxis. An integrative epistemological framework that synthesizes revelation, reason, and existential experience forms the foundation of this approach. Furthermore, the effectiveness of Faiz’s dakwah is strengthened by the use of multi-platform digital communication, enabling broad and diverse audience engagement. Overall, the findings confirm that reflective-philosophical dakwah represents a contemporary, moderate, and transformative model capable of addressing the intellectual and spiritual needs of modern Muslim society.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed the landscape of Islamic da‘wah through the emergence of social media platforms as broader and more interactive channels for conveying religious messages. This study examines the digital da‘wah strategies employed by Ustadz Hanan Attaki in reaching audiences in the digital era, highlighting the effectiveness of using conversational language, appealing visuals, and approaches that resonate with everyday life. Using a qualitative research method with a case study approach, this study analyzes how social media can serve as an effective tool for delivering Islamic teachings to younger generations. The findings show that the digital strategies implemented successfully enhance audience engagement, yet they also face challenges such as the simplification of Islamic teachings, dependence on platform algorithms, and the potential commercialization of da‘wah content. Therefore, adaptive strategies are needed—ones that prioritize not only popularity but also the depth and substance of Islamic teachings. This study contributes to the development of a more effective and contextual model of digital da‘wah and provides recommendations for preachers in optimizing the use of digital media.

Abstract

This study analyzes the stages of persuasive communication strategies used by preachers (da'i) through Krama Javanese to enhance congregational faith at Istiqlal Mosque, Central Lampung. A qualitative descriptive field research approach was applied. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. Informants were selected using purposive sampling: preachers, mosque administrators, and congregation members. Data analysis employed an interactive model supported by simple quantitizing to strengthen qualitative findings. The results reveal three stages of persuasive communication strategy: formulation (understanding the congregation's background and selecting Krama Javanese), implementation (delivering messages politely, without coercion, with real-life examples), and evaluation (observing changes in understanding and worship behavior). Quantitizing results show an average comprehension score of 4.7 and behavioral change score of 4.3 on a 5-point scale. Triangulation across three sources confirms consistent findings. This strategy aligns with Aristotle's ethos, pathos, logos and the Elaboration Likelihood Model. The study concludes that using Krama Javanese effectively increases congregational faith, reflected in improved quality of mahdhah worship such as congregational prayers and Qur'anic recitation. This research contributes to understanding how local language integration in persuasive communication can strengthen emotional proximity between preachers and congregations while enhancing religious practice quality.

Abstract

This study examines how a local media outlet constructs the representation of migrant workers from Madura through its news coverage. The issue addressed in this research is the persistence of stereotyping and biased narratives surrounding migrant workers, which are often shaped by media framing. The objective of this study is to analyze how the identity of Madurese migrant workers is portrayed in news reports published by Radar Madura. This research employs a qualitative approach using framing analysis to interpret selected news articles from 2023 to 2025. The analysis focuses on how news structures, storytelling patterns, thematic emphasis, and language choices are used to construct meaning. The findings indicate that the media presents a dual representation, portraying migrant workers both as resilient contributors to the local economy and as vulnerable individuals facing exploitation and social challenges. These representations are influenced by cultural values, editorial perspectives, and local context. The study concludes that local media plays a significant role in shaping public perception and reinforcing both positive and negative images of Madurese migrant workers, which may affect broader social attitudes toward this group.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Hierarchy of Influence in the news coverage of the August 2025 Extra-Parliamentary Movement on iNews TV, as well as to examine the news production process. Grounded in the Hierarchy of Influence theory proposed by Shoemaker and Reese, this research explores five levels of influence individual, media routines, organizational, extramedia, and ideological, within television news production. The study employs a qualitative approach using a constructivist paradigm. Data were collected through documentation analysis of iNews TV news broadcasts related to the movement, supported by literature review and complementary interviews. The findings indicate that news coverage is shaped by interactions among journalistic professionalism, editorial routines, organizational policies, and external contextual factors. At the individual and media routine levels, time constraints and news values influence story selection and presentation. At the organizational and extramedia levels, editorial considerations and reliance on official sources contribute to the prioritization of narratives emphasizing public order and stability. Ideological influences further frame the movement within broader national and social discourses. Overall, the study demonstrates that news content is constructed through layered influences rather than produced in a neutral manner. This research contributes to mass communication and media sociology by providing empirical insights into how national television media frame political events and social movements in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the forms of cultural communication messages contained in the merejung tradition of the Serawai ethnic community in Kepahiang Regency. The merejung tradition is a form of oral literature that has been passed down from generation to generation and is commonly performed in traditional ceremonies, particularly during wedding processions. In addition to functioning as entertainment or an artistic performance, merejung also serves as a medium of cultural communication that conveys social values, moral messages, and cultural identity to the community. However, along with the development of modern times, public understanding especially among the younger generation of the meaning and function of merejung has begun to decline. Therefore, scientific research is needed to reveal the cultural messages embedded within this tradition. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnography of communication approach within a constructivist paradigm. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving perrejung (rejung performers), traditional leaders, and members of the Serawai community. Data analysis employed James W. Carey’s ritual communication theory. The results show that the merejung tradition contains three main forms of cultural communication messages: social messages, moral messages, and cultural identity messages that function to strengthen social relationships, provide life advice, and maintain the cultural identity of the Serawai community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze accommodation communication between local and foreign employees at PT Sepco III Bengkulu in a multicultural work context. The study uses a qualitative approach with a post positivism paradigm. The analysis is based on Howard Giles' Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT), which includes convergence, divergence, maintenance, and over-accommodation strategies. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that convergence strategies are the dominant pattern, especially carried out by local employees through adjustments in language, communication style, and work rhythm. Conversely, foreign employees tend to maintain a direct and assertive communication style as a form of maintenance, while divergence and over-accommodation arise situational. The interaction pattern that has been formed is asymmetrical, influenced by the local cultural orientation that emphasizes harmony and the hierarchy of foreign companies that employ local employees. Accomodation communication is not going smoothly, which could potentially lead to latent conflicts that may at any time escalate into open conflict.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the shift in cross-gender identities on social media, which are no longer simply self-expression but have become commodified within the system of digital platform capitalism, particularly among content creators in Bengkulu. This study aims to analyze these commodification practices through the creators' lived experiences constructing, negotiating, and monetizing their identities. The method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach through in-depth interviews and observations of two local content creators. The results show that cross-gender identities have been integrated into the logic of the platform economy, where algorithms influence content visibility and strategy, while the attention economy drives production intensity and audience engagement. The identities displayed become economically valuable commodities in commercial partnerships, and creators' activities reflect flexible digital labor without clear work boundaries. Furthermore, there is a negotiation between local Bengkulu culture and the demands of global platform capitalism in the packaging of identities. Therefore, creators' digital identities are not neutral but are shaped by the power relations of technology and the platform economy.

Abstract

Humanistic da’wah is an orientation of Islamic preaching that positions human beings as dignified subjects by strengthening empathy, compassion, justice, social care, and protection for vulnerable groups. Amid the rise of violence, intolerance, and humanitarian crises, literature can function as a medium of da’wah humanistic that does not preach didactically but touches readers’ affective experiences. This study aims to analyze the representation of humanistic da’wah messages in Zoulfa Katouh’s novel As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow. This research employs a qualitative approach with content analysis. The data consist of narratives, dialogues, character conflicts, and story symbols containing humanistic da’wah messages. The analysis applies Stuart Hall’s representation theory through three stages: identifying textual signs, categorizing humanistic da’wah values, and interpreting socio-religious meanings. The findings reveal six main categories: empathy toward war victims, sacrifice for the safety of others, social care in medical crises, moral responsibility, courage to protect vulnerable groups, and humanitarian solidarity. The novel demonstrates that humanistic da’wah is not always delivered through explicit sermons but can be articulated through ethical actions that preserve life and human dignity.

Abstract

The development of communication technology has driven the transformation of da'wah delivery methods from conventional spaces to digital platforms that are more adaptive and closer to the younger generation. This study aims to analyze the content of da'wah messages conveyed through the Instagram account @denaahaura as a form of digital da'wah in the social media era. This study uses a content analysis method with a descriptive qualitative approach based on Klaus Krippendorff's theory. Research data were obtained through documentation techniques on @denaahaura's Instagram content in the form of feed uploads, video reels, captions, and audience interactions during the period November 2025 to February 2026. Sample selection was carried out using a purposive sampling technique and analyzed through the stages of unitizing, sampling, recording/coding, reducing, inferring, and narrating. The results of the study show that da'wah messages on the @denaahaura account can be classified into three main categories, namely faith, sharia, and morals. Of the three categories, moral messages are the most dominant form of messages and are packaged through a reflective, persuasive, and emotional approach. Furthermore, the strategy of conveying messages through aesthetic visuals, the use of light language, video reels, and a personal approach significantly increased audience engagement. Research findings indicate that Muslim female influencers serve not only as content creators but also as preaching communicators capable of building a digital spiritual space that is relevant, inspiring, and aligned with the characteristics of Generation Z and millennials.
