Abstract

Cultural Awareness not only reduces the ignorance and fear that counselors may have of counselees as another cultural group but encourages a new generation of counselors with the potential for Inclusive Cultural Empathy to produce an inclusive counseling approach. The purpose of this research is to identify the factual conditions of Cultural Awereness and to analyze the description of the factual models of cross-cultural counseling in schools. The method used is Mix Methods Research. Quantitative data shows that 60% of counseling guidance teachers have low Cultural Awereness, 25.7% are in the medium and 14.3% are in the high category. The factual model of cross-cultural counseling carried out in schools displays an element of acceptance that has not yet reached a cultural emotional connection so that cultural empathy is not achieved. As a result, there are negative feelings within the counselee due to cultural bias by the Guidance and Counseling Teacher.

Abstract

This article provides a brief overview of the reception of the theory and practice of Athanasian Christology in the postmodern era. As the Apostle defending the Council of Nicaea, Athanasius's thoughts and practice are worth exploring, especially regarding his soteriology and Christology. This research examines Athanasius' Christology and soteriology to be implemented for Christianity in the postmodern era. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a historical approach. The research results show that Athanasius viewed humans as initially created in a right relationship with God, but sin separated humans from God. Man fell into a state of sin and destruction and lost his actual life and genuine relationship with the Creator. However, a loving God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to restore and save humanity. This is where the Logos of God works in humanity's creation, preservation, and salvation. Athanasius's concept influenced the church's concept of salvation today, and the impact of Athanasius's thought became a reference for the church in the doctrine of salvation. In internalization for postmodern society, four steps can be taken, namely (i) clarity, (ii) credibility, (iii) reasonable, and (iv) intimacy.

Abstract

This study aims to find out whether the Bible supports those who are cynical, especially the cynicism of Diogenes. This type of research is useful to examine a topic that has not been studied in depth before or to broaden one's understanding of a topic that has been studied before using various perspectives. This research collects and studies all literature and sources related to the Philosophy of Cynicism, especially Christian spiritual literature sources such as the Bible. Lack of faith, or "unbelief", is one of the symptoms of cynicism. The Bible always warns its readers not to put full trust in man. According to Proverbs 3:5, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Paul also commands Christians not to follow the pattern of this world. They would live their lives as they pleased and would ignore the advice of pastors and leaders. However, in the church, defying God's authority is considered apostasy.

Abstract

Women are always in a dilemma in the postmodern era. For those with a positive view, women are seen as having skills that men do not have. However, from the negative side, women are seen as inferior and weak. The feminist movement, which has spread to all levels of society, is also seen as the wrong response. Therefore, studies are needed that show women's education from ancient sources, namely the Ancient Middle East, which was the ancestor of Christianity, as the context for the birth of the religion of Israel. The research method used was descriptive qualitative. The research results show that women's participation in education in Ancient Middle Eastern society is evident. Even though they live in a patriarchal environment in Israel, women play a role in family, law, kinship, and religion in Ancient Middle Eastern society. The presence of women has colored the various roles of society at that time

Abstract

This article examines the meanings of Genesis 11:1-9 to straighten out the general Christian understanding that the Tower of Babel story is about the origin of all world languages’ development today. The research method is conducted qualitatively using a narrative hermeneutic approach consisting of background, literary, context, lexical, and grammatical analysis. After analyzing the text, the authors find that Genesis 11:1-9 has historical and theological meaning. Historically, all nations and languages of the Ancient Near East derived from Babel, while theologically, God’s people need to be faithful and obedient to His covenant. Thus, this study concludes that the general Christian understanding is inaccurate because the narrative only talks about the origin of all Ancient Near Eastern languages’ development, not all today’s world languages. Furthermore, the readers also need to understand this story as Moses and the Israelites read it by emphasizing theological, not historical, records.

Abstract

Hospitality shows an openness toward each person's differences by respecting each other in sincerity. The focus of hospitality lies in sincerity in giving and accepting other people's limitations (Tabita Kartika Christiani). This attitude of accepting other people's limitations reminds us of people with disabilities who, in the view of society and the church, are often used as objects of pity, less involved, abnormal, and considered incapable. The church often does not care about what people with disabilities experience and struggle with. Without realizing it, this attitude of the church has made a difference within the church body itself. People with disabilities should be seen as people with gifts from God. Gifts that enable them to continue their lives together with others. Therefore, so that people with disabilities can recognize their existence, people need to be educated to accept the presence of people with disabilities amid fellowship as part of the body of Christ that cannot be separated. Inclusive Holy Communion can be a friendly space for people with disabilities because all people are united from various backgrounds through Holy Communion. Inclusive Holy Communion helps people understand that everyone is equal before God and has the right to receive salvation from Him. This article invites people to understand that inclusive Holy Communion can help everyone, including people with disabilities, feel accepted and valued in communion with Christ.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the religious expressions of young Instagram users in Jakarta and its surroundings related to the governor candidates ahead of the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election, the dialectic of religious views that occur, the reasons behind these religious views. The data in this study were obtained by observation, documentation, and interviews. Data collection and analysis were carried out using qualitative methods. The analysis and interpretation are arranged in a theoretical framework which is reviewed and sourced from several literatures related to the research focus. The results of this study indicate that public expressions on the Instagram official accounts of the 2017 Jakarta governor candidates often discuss religious issues and there are pro and contra dialectics between Islamic and non-Islamic (Christian) leaders, along with their arguments. Religious passion is obviously seen and there is a strong tendency in the public expression of Instagram comments by linking religious aspects to the figure who will lead Jakarta. There are three interrelated themes that become the main argument in dialectics and the opposition whether or not a non-Muslim governor is allowed to become a leader, namely theological, fiqh, and national interest. These views may have been influenced by religious education obtained formally or informally, religious authorities such as ustadz or ulama whose opinions are considered correct, and available online or printed religious information.

Abstract

Charles Haddon Spurgeon, known as the "Prince of Preachers," provides an extraordinary model for postmodern preachers through his profound and detailed expository sermons. Spurgeon emphasized the importance of exegetical accuracy, practical application, and effective rhetoric in conveying the message of the Bible. Additionally, his involvement in social work and dedication to theological education, such as the founding of The Pastor's College, demonstrate his commitment to addressing social needs and supporting the church's growth. Spurgeon's integrity and personal commitment to his ministry also serve as essential pillars for contemporary preachers to follow. Through the contextualization of the Gospel, Spurgeon successfully connected the message of the Bible with the realities of his congregation's lives, offering a relevant example for addressing the challenges of the times. Postmodern preachers are advised to adopt Spurgeon's methods and principles of ministry, including in-depth exegetical study, active involvement in social work, and continuous theological education. In doing so, preachers can deliver impactful services, strengthen the foundation of faith, and expand the church's influence within society.

Abstract

The low quality of education in East Nusa Tenggara significantly impacts people's lives. GMIT Bet'el, part of the Gereja Masehi Injili di Timor (GMIT), has a vital role in improving the quality of education, but its participation still needs to be improved. This study analyzes the role of GMIT Bet'el in education using practical theology based on Richard R. Osmer's framework and the missional koinonia theory of John Zizioulas and J. Andrew Kirk, as well as the missio Dei concept of the World Council of Churches (WCC). Using qualitative methods that include four tasks of practical theology—descriptive-empirical, interpretive, normative, and pragmatic—, it was found that a lack of congregational motivation, imbalanced priorities, and financial constraints hampers GMIT Bet'el's participation. This theological reflection emphasizes the need for GMIT Bet'el to become a missional koinonia, focusing on education as part of God's mission through awareness-raising, strategic planning, and wise resource management.
