Abstract

The IoT-based indoor fire extinguishing system with the C4.5 algorithm was developed to improve early detection, real-time monitoring, and automatic extinguishing at room scale. The system uses an ESP32, MQ-135, flame infrared, DHT22, and ultrasonic sensors to read environmental conditions, then sends the data to Firebase Realtime Database and an Android application. The C4.5 model uses a five-point time window to predict Safe, Alert, and Danger states. Training results show an average accuracy of 84.9% and best performance above 90%. Functional testing on 20 scenarios produced 13 successful and 7 failed cases, with a 65% success rate. Failures were mainly caused by mechanical belt-conveyor constraints, indicating that stronger mechanical components should be prioritized in future development.

Abstract

Efficient wood pellet production requires integrated management of machine performance and supply chain operations. PT Rafansa Sukses Sejahtera faces operational challenges, including machine downtime, inconsistent output, and defective products, caused by upstream issues such as delayed raw material supply, varying wood quality, and non-uniform particle size or moisture content. These factors disrupt lead times, reduce throughput, increase waste, and increase safety stock. This study analyzes machine performance using OEE, identifies production root causes through the 6M RCA, and evaluates supply chain indicators including lead time, throughput, waste, bottlenecks, and safety stock. Data were collected over six consecutive days using direct observation and expert judgment. Results showed OEE of 73.6–75.2%, downtime of 58–62 minutes, throughput of 845–855 kg/day, and waste of 5.54–5.59%. The RCA highlighted human, machine, material, method, measurement, and environmental factors as the main constraints. This study proposes an integrated OEE–RCA–supply chain framework to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen the resilience of the wood pellet supply chain.

Abstract

Emulsion stability is one of the key parameters in cosmetic formulation because it is directly related to product quality and consistency during storage. In Carbopol-based emulsion systems, the mixing process plays a major role in forming the gel structure and in the rheological properties of the final product. This study aims to examine the effect of mixing-speed variation on the viscosity and stability of a Carbopol system neutralized using NaOH. The mixing process was carried out at speeds of 1000, 1100, and 1200 rpm for 10 minutes, with a relatively constant Carbopol concentration. The observed parameters included changes in pH and emulsion viscosity, measured using a viscometer. The results show that all samples met the company’s pH and viscosity standards, with a mixing speed of 1100 rpm producing the highest viscosity value. These findings indicate that setting the appropriate mixing speed is essential for obtaining optimal emulsion stability in Carbopol-based cosmetic formulations.

Abstract

This research discusses the design of a ballot validation system based on Threshold Contour Detection using ESP32-CAM, Firebase, and OpenCV. The goal is to develop an automated method for identifying holes in ballots to assess their validity. The ESP32-CAM captures ballot images and sends them to Firebase Storage for processing with OpenCV using the Threshold Contour Detection method. The results of the validity analysis are sent to the Firebase Realtime Database for display on a web page. Test results showed the system performed as designed, although there were some errors. Lighting significantly affected the image quality captured by the ESP32-CAM, while internet connection played a crucial role in data synchronization. Performance evaluations demonstrated that implementing this method helped election officials validate ballots, although the detection process still needs improvement. The system successfully detected "valid" ballots with an 86% success rate, indicating that the application is suitable for counting valid ballots.

Abstract

The refining process of crude palm oil (CPO-TO) into Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Oil-Technical Oil (RBDPO-TO) requires a bleaching step to remove pigments and impurities. The use of bleaching earth (BE) at this stage plays a crucial role in improving oil quality, but has the potential to cause oil losses, which can reduce product yield. This study aims to analyze the effect of bleaching earth dosage on oil content, total oil losses, and RBDPO-TO yield in the refinery process. The study was conducted quantitatively using operational data and laboratory analysis results at PT XYZ Dumai during the period of December 1–14, 2025. The bleaching earth dosage varied between 0.8–1.5% with a relatively constant feed flow rate. The results showed a positive correlation between increasing bleaching earth dosage and oil content and total oil losses, and a negative correlation with RBDPO-TO yield. A high BE dosage (1.4–1.5%) resulted in the highest oil losses of up to 0.89% and the lowest yield of around 84.23%, while a lower BE dosage (0.8–0.9%) reduced oil losses to 0.50% and increased RBDPO-TO yield to 89.39%.

Abstract

Shoes frequently come into contact with floors and the outdoor environment, making them a potential medium for spreading bacteria and viruses. This study aims to design and build an IoT-based shoe sterilization system that can be monitored and controlled via an Android application. The system uses an ESP32 microcontroller, DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor, MC-38 door sensor, and LJ12A3-4-Z/BX proximity sensor. The sterilization process uses a 254 nm UV-C lamp integrated with Firebase Realtime Database. The system can automatically detect shoe types, set a maximum temperature of 34°C for sneakers and 50°C for safety shoes, and automatically turn off the UV-C lamp when the door is opened. Test results show all components worked as designed. The integration of ESP32, Firebase, and the Android app proved to be an effective IoT-based sterilization solution.

Abstract

The structural design of a three-storey pesantren (Islamic boarding school) dormitory facility located in Diwek District, Jombang Regency, is presented in this study. The design was performed in accordance with Indonesian National Standards SNI 2847:2019 (Reinforced Concrete Structural Design), SNI 1726:2019 (Earthquake Load Provisions), and SNI 1727:2020 (Minimum Building Load Requirements). A Special Moment Resisting Frame System (SRPMK), recognized for its enhanced ductility and seismic resilience, was selected as the primary structural system. The structural elements were systematically designed and verified to meet all regulatory requirements. The floor slab was dimensioned at 120 mm thickness, whereas staircase components exhibited riser heights of 170 mm and tread depths of 300 mm. Beam elements of varying capacities were proportioned as follows: primary beam B3 (450 mm × 700 mm), secondary beam BA3 (350 mm × 600 mm), and tertiary beam BA4 (200 mm × 300 mm). Two sizes of grade beam elements were designed, namely S3 (400 mm × 600 mm) and S4 (300 mm × 500 mm). The principal column section was established at 600 mm × 600 mm. The foundation system consisted of a maximum pile cap measuring 1750 mm × 1750 mm with 500 mm thickness, supported by four driven piles of 250 mm × 250 mm cross-section. All structural components demonstrated adequate capacity margins relative to design loads, thereby confirming the structural safety and functionality of the facility.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and minimize waste in the papercore production process at PT. XYZ using the Six Sigma DMAIC methodology. The main problem identified is a high waste level reaching 13.67% of total production, equivalent to 102,257 kg in December 2025. The research was conducted through the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control stages, utilizing Pareto diagrams and fishbone analysis as analytical tools. The results indicate that the Winding process is the largest contributor to waste, with Winding 1 accounting for 28% of the total waste. The root causes of waste originate from Man, Machine, Method, and Material factors. Improvement proposals focus on enhancing SOP compliance, operator training, implementing preventive maintenance, and strengthening material quality control. The application of the DMAIC approach is expected to reduce waste levels and improve production process efficiency in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of adding borax (sodium tetraborate) as a retarder additive on both parameters, using concentration variations of 0%, 0.25%, 0.5%, and 1% BWOC at a fixed water-cement ratio of 0.44. Testing was performed with a hydraulic press after 24 hours of curing. Compressive strength rose from 654.2 psi (0%) to 1,122.3 psi (0.25%) and peaked at 1,421.1 psi at 0.5%, before dropping sharply to 525.6 psi at 1%. Shear bond strength followed a similar pattern: 144.5 psi (0%), 233.6 psi (0.25%), 295.7 psi (0.5%, the highest value), and 127.3 psi at 1%. A concentration of 0.5% BWOC proved to be the optimum point, while excess borax triggered over-retardation that hindered C-S-H formation and reduced cement strength
