Abstract

On the Sicincin-Padang toll road section there are several geotechnical problems, one of which is that at the Sta 10+250-10+400 is dominated by an organic soil. In the implementation of a 4.0 meter high embankment there are cracks appeared on the left side of embankment toe. Based on the evaluation results of monitoring geotechnical instruments in the field, the cracks that occur can be caused by the bearing capacity failure or due to the implementation stages of embankment construction is too fast. The method used in this research is to use finite element method by numerical simulation using Plaxis 2D program to determine the stability of embankment slope stability acording to the stages of implementation in the field and by modeling a staged construction, where the speed of embankment construction depends on the thickness of the embankment layer used, which is 15 cm to 25 cm until the design height is reached and the consolidation time is 1 day to 14 days for each additional 1 meter of embankment height. The porpose of this study is to determine the stages of implementation that are safe and compliant with the design criteria requrements. From the modeling results the existing embankment construction in the field has a safety factor value of SF=1.156. In this research, variations in the construction stages that have been modeled were obtained that are safe and meet the design criteria at the location under review are; at Sta 10+250 with using 25 cm thickness fill layer and 14 days consolidation time, Sta 10+350 with a 15 cm thickness fill layer and 7 days consolidation time, Sta 10+400 with a 25 cm thickness fill layer and 5 days consolidation time. There are differences in the effective time at each of the locations reviewed, this is due to differences in geometric embankment conditions at each location. From the results of modeling analysis, it also found that by reducing the thickness of the embankment fill layer and increasing the consolidation time, the value of the safety number will increase, the amount of settlement will increase, the amount of lateral movement will decrease and the excess pore water pressure will decrease.

Abstract

The development of IKN Nusantara (Indonesia's New Capital City) in phase I, 2022-2024, focuses on basic infrastructure development, one of which is the IKN Toll Road Segment 3A Karangjoang - KKT Kariangau (STA 14+000 - STA 25+909) in Balikpapan. This development will add back to Indonesia's infrastructure assets, especially the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. One of the main works in the construction of this toll road is excavation and embankment work, the need for a lot of embankment material is a problem in itself so that the excavated soil as much as possible is sought to be used as embankment soil by mixing the excavated soil with fly ash and bottom ash from Balikpapan Steam Power Plant, this is one form of soil stabilization experiment. The mixture testing was carried out by making 3 types of mixture variations namely soil + fly ash, soil + bottom ash, and soil + fly ash & bottom ash, the 3 types of mixtures were tested by standard proctor test and then continued with soaked CBR testing with 0, 7 and 14 days of curing. From these mixes, the highest soaked CBR test result value was 6.013% from the soil + BA 15% mix with 0 days of curing and the lowest value was 0.709% from the soil + FABA 10% mix with 14 days of curing. Due to the negative trend of the soaked CBR test results where the average value is below 6%, the mixed material is not recommended for use.

Abstract

The package that is currently under construction on the Trans Sumatra toll road network section Padang - Pekanbaru is the Padang - Lubuk Alung - Sicincin section which is targeted for completion in July 2024. One of the obstacles in the work process is that there is an embankment landslide at STA 7 + 450 which is indicated due to a decrease in the subgrade. This resulted in the construction process not being able to continue so there was a delay in the progress of construction implementation. Therefore, a study is needed that focuses on analyzing the causes of landslides and follow-up recommendations to overcome problems in the STA 7 + 450 embankment work on the Padang - Pekanbaru Toll Road Construction project section Padang - Lubuk Alung - Sicincin. The method used in this research is finite element modeling analysis using the help of the PLAXIS 2D program by looking at the Safety Factor value of the embankment slope under initial conditions and back analysis. The landslide modeling results with the finite element method are also compared with the landslide lines that occur in the field. From the back analysis, new parameters are obtained when a landslide occurs as input in the reinforcement analysis to be used. For follow-up improvement, full displacement column reinforcement is proposed where the effect of FDC column spacing, thickness, and load transfer platform material combination on slope stability, settlement, and changes in soil mechanical parameters will be analyzed. It was found that the embankment structure before the collapse had a critical SF value of SF = 1.010. The cause of the landslide was indicated to be due to the additional load from the project vehicle traffic. Parameter changes were obtained in the form of c' = 8.17 kN/m2 and Ø' =19.68o, cc = 0.8175, and cs =0.1204 in the organic soft soil which was indicated to be the cause of the landslide. From the modeling results to find the effectiveness of reinforcement with FDC, the optimum parameters were obtained concerning a distance of 3 times the column diameter, and a Load Transfer Platform thickness of 1.8 meters with geogrid reinforcement.

Abstract

The Pasuruan-Probolinggo Section 4 Toll Road project which has a length of 12.04 km is dominated by silty clay - clay. In addition to soft soil, there are other problems in the construction of the Pasuruan - Probolinggo Section 4 toll road, namely the limited availability of embankment soil material around the project site and the location of the quarry which is quite far away. In addition, when relying on embankment material from the quarry, the weather factor will play a very important role when the weather is rainy then the activity in the quarry stops, the targeted embankment volume is not met and the progress of work on that day is not achieved. Therefore, there is a need for alternative reinforcement of embankments other than soil embankments from quarries that are safe and light enough. Based on the existing problems, this research will conduct a comparative study of toll road embankment design with 3 different types of materials, namely: Conventional soil embankment compared with lightweight embankment in the form of EPS-Geofoam material and foam mortar material. This research will use Plaxis 2D program. The results of this research will determine alternative embankment materials that can be applied to soft subgrade so that overall stability and hydrostatic uplift requirements can be met. This research is expected to be a reference in planning the construction and improvement of the subgrade of the Pasuruan-Probolinggo Section 4 toll road and other toll roads using EPS geofoam embankment and foam mortar

Abstract

The analysis of slope stability is crucial during embankment planning to ensure safety and prevent landslides. A stable slope ensures the safety of surrounding infrastructure, minimizing the risk of damage. Therefore, with slope stability analysis can manage and maintain infrastructure assets. The primary method used to evaluate slope stability is the Limit Equilibrium Method, frequently employed in a 2D framework using various applications such as Plaxis LE and Geostudio. Using diverse applications for analysis can yield varying safety factors, influencing the required reinforcement. Hence, this study analyzed safety factors and the necessary geotextile reinforcement for embankments on soft soil featuring distinct heights, slopes, and widths in 2D. The analysis was performed using the Plaxis LE application, and the results were subsequently compared with those obtained from the Geostudio application. This research shows that the results of the embankment safety factors with the Plaxis LE application are different from those of the embankment safety factors with Geostudio, resulting in different embankment geotextile reinforcement namely the need for Plaxis LE geotextile reinforcement = 0.7 Geostudio geotextile reinforcement.

Abstract

The Singaraja -Pengayaman BTS Road Section is a national road located in the central corridor of Bali Island and includes several critical locations in terms of road geometry. Geometric adjustments are being addressed through the BTS Singaraja -Mengwitani Road and Bridge Construction Project Section 7E, involving excavation work up to 64 meters high at STA. 0+119.87. This study aims to analyze slope stability based on existing conditions, evaluate the impact of excavation method variations on slope stability, and determine effectiveexcavation methods both with and without the influence of water on slope stabilityusing Plaxis 2D program. The research results indicate that the safety factor (SF) value of the existing slope prior to excavation was 1.337, whereas it decreased to 1.034 after the final excavation stage. According to the SNI 8460:2017 standard (SF < 1.5), the slope condition in the final excavation stage is deemed unsafe. Excavations with depth variations of 1 meter, 2 meters, and 3 meters, as well as at slope angles of 45 ̊, 55 ̊, and 65 ̊, showed similar impacts on slope stability. A significant decrease in the safety factor occurred from the 7th excavation bench downward, where the safety factor fell below 1.3. At the end of the excavation process, the deepest sliding surface reached a depth of 20.11 meters. At an elevation of +36.5 meters, where the groundwater level reaches 56.40% of the total slope height, which marks the boundary between soil and rock layers, the safety factor drops to 1.040. Further increases in groundwater levels above +36.5 meters could render the slope unstable and potentially lead to collapse.

Abstract

The Lombok International Airport – Mandalika Bypass Road experienced a landslide at KM 10+415 to 10+519 in February 2023 during heavy rainfall. The landslide is estimated to have occurred due to the saturation of the embankment caused by groundwater flow and rainwater infiltration. The proposed reinforcement includes the use of foam mortar with thickness variations of 2m, 4m, and 6m, with or without subdrain. Another proposal involves using Rigid Inclusions in the form of controlled modulus columns (CMC) with column spacing variations of 2ø, 3ø, and 4ø, with or without subdrain. Numerical analysis of the safety factor (SF) and deformation (Uy) was conducted using the Plaxis 2D program, both for the initial condition and after reinforcement. In general, the SF and deformations (Uy) for all reinforcement variations meet the reinforcement criteria, i.e., SF > 1.5 and deformations (Uy) < 2cm. The smallest SF of 1.579 was obtained with 4m thick foam mortar with subdrain. The largest deformations (Uy) of 1.656 was found with 2ø column spacing CMC without subdrain. The most effective Stress Reduction Ratio of 0.13 was achieved with 2ø column spacing CMC without subdrain. The influence of the subdrain is not significant because the landslide surface did not reach the groundwater table.

Abstract

The soil condition on the Rengat - Pekanbaru Toll Road Sta 193+ 025 - Sta 193+400 which passes through oil palm plantations, swamp areas, and the Siak River, consists of a compressible layer as thick as 7.0 meters. To handle the problem, a 375 m long slab on pile construction was planned with a construction time of 3 months. However, the design was costly; therefore, alternative planning using ordinary piles and a combination of ordinary and lightweight piles was required. The rate of settlement at the study site did not meet the requirements for t = 1 year (< 2cm/year) or t = 10 years (< 10cm/10 years). Therefore, it is necessary to install PVDs with an installation distance of 1.0 meter and a length of 7.0 m. The stability analysis showed that as the percentage of foam mortar increases, the SF value increases. The bearing capacity of the subgrade was increased by installing geotextiles; the number of geotextile layers required at each site varied depending on the height of the embankment and the combination of soil + foam mortar, the thicker the foam mortar, the less geotextile layers were required. The number of reinforcing piles was also planned according to the thickness of the soil and foam mortar variations; the thicker the foam mortar, the less piles were required. In terms of cost, the slab on pile replacement structures that provide savings are geotextile-reinforced soil backfill and a combination of soil backfill with 25% thick foam mortar. Each of these replacement structures provides savings of Rp 40 billion (without foam mortar) and Rp 12.1 billion (with 25% thick foam mortar). For the implementation time, both methods require the same completion time as slab on pile which is 3.5 months.
