Abstract

Stunting is a condition of growth failure in children due to chronic malnutrition during growth and occurs from the womb to the age of two years which has an impact on the physical, cognitive, social development of children. One of the causes of stunting is pregnant women who suffer from Gestational Diabetes. Objective: To conduct an early examination of pregnant women at risk of gestational diabetes in coastal areas. Method: Descriptive with purposive sampling approach. Data collection techniques, namely: Determine the research problem followed by a literature study. The implementation stage of the study was carried out by examining temporary blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, height, abdominal circumference, and arm circumference. Furthermore, a pretest was conducted to assess the level of knowledge of pregnant women regarding the prevention of stunting and understanding related to gestational diabetes. Data analysis with univariate analysis. Results and Discussion: The age of most respondents was 20-35 years (80.8%), Real-time Blood Sugar: > 125 mg/dL (30.7%), 101-125 mg/dL (40.4%) and < 101 mg/dL (28.8%). Systolic Blood Pressure was mostly in the range of 90-120 mmHg (57.7%), Diastolic Blood Pressure 60-90 mmHg (86.5%). The Body Weight of most respondents was 35-60 Kg (55.8%), Respondents Height was 151-168 cm (53.8%), Abdominal Circumference about 92-107 cm (61.5%) and Arm Circumference was 21-27 cm (63.4%). Conclusions: Gestational diabetes can be one of the factors causing the birth of stunted children. Therefore, early examination is needed in pregnant women to find out health problems so that they can be prevented as early as possible such as conducting examinations, blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, height, arm circumference and conditions during pregnancy. Suggestion: Early detection of pregnant women is very important in health facilities such as health centers and hospitals. This right can determine the health condition of pregnant women and identify health problems early, so as to prevent complications. Efforts that can be made include managing a healthy diet, maintaining nutrition for the fetus during pregnancy and are expected to prevent the risk of gestational diabetes complications such as the birth of stunted children.

Abstract

Anemia is a common health problem in adolescent girls that risks causing complications during pregnancy and stunting in children. Blood supplementation tablets are an effective intervention, but the compliance of adolescent girls in consuming them is still low. Objective: This study aimed to analyze adherence to taking blood supplement tablets in adolescent girls. Methods: With a mixed-method design and involving 124 respondents from a total population of 180 adolescent girls, this study used simple random sampling and chi-square statistical analysis to assess the relationship between knowledge variables and the role of parents, as well as in-depth interviews to assess the role of health workers and schools. Results: The results showed that there was a significant association between knowledge (p < 0.001) and parental role (p 0.001) with the compliance of adolescent girls in taking blood supplement tablets. Interview findings also revealed that health workers and schools distribute blood supplement tablets every month to support efforts to increase adherence. Conclusion: knowledge, parental support, and the active role of health and school personnel play an important role in improving the adherence of adolescent girls to taking blood supplement tablets. It is recommended that all parties, especially parents and schools, collaborate to improve adolescents' understanding and adherence to taking blood supplement tablets.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a normal and natural process in a woman, during which physical, psychological, and social changes occur. Complications during pregnancy are one of the factors contributing to the increase in maternal mortality rates. Maternal knowledge plays a crucial role in efforts to reduce maternal mortality; a lack of knowledge in recognizing the danger signs of pregnancy can lead to insufficient and delayed anticipation during pregnancy. The objective is to analyze the effect of education on pregnancy danger signs on the knowledge of primigravida pregnant women in the coastal and island areas of Talaga Kambelo, Huamual Subdistrict, West Seram Regency. This study employs a quantitative research method with a quasi-experimental design. The research design used is the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design, where a single group is given the same intervention, and tests are conducted before and after the intervention. Providing education about the danger signs of pregnancy to primigravida mothers in coastal and island areas of Talaga Kambelo has a significant impact, as there is an improvement observed before and after conducting health education.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the important pillars in supporting infant health and growth, but its coverage in Indonesia is still low, especially in rural areas such as Palmatak. Mothers' knowledge about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding influences breastfeeding practices, but various factors such as age, education, and occupation can affect their understanding. These obstacles often hinder the adoption of optimal exclusive breastfeeding practices. This study aims to describe mothers' knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding in the Palmatak Health Center area. Methods: The design of this study was descriptive quantitative. The sampling technique used simple random sampling with a sample size of 50 mothers. Data were collected using a questionnaire that measured mothers' knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding, as well as demographic characteristics such as age, education, and occupation. Data analysis was carried out using univariate analysis techniques to describe the frequency distribution and percentage of the variables studied. The results showed that the majority of respondents (76%) were in the non-risk age group, namely 20-35 years. Most mothers had a high school education/equivalent (36%), and most worked as self-employed (30%). Regarding maternal knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding, 52.94% had low knowledge, while 47.06% had high knowledge. Factors such as limited access to health information and the influence of local cultural habits are the main obstacles in increasing maternal knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. This study concluded that despite high knowledge among some mothers, many mothers still do not understand the importance of exclusive breastfeeding. Health centers and health cadres have an important role in increasing maternal knowledge through community-based education programs that are tailored to local conditions. Interventions based on social and cultural contexts can be more effective in increasing exclusive breastfeeding coverage in rural areas.

Abstract

Indonesia faces a significant challenge with a high population growth rate that affects development quality and family welfare. One solution is to increase male participation in the family planning program through contraceptive methods such as vasectomy. However, the acceptance rate of vasectomy is still low due to various factors. This study analyzes the factors influencing vasectomy acceptance by identifying its attributes, antecedents, and consequences. This study used Walker and Avant's concept analysis approach. The literature analyzed came from various databases, such as PubMed and ProQuest, with publications from 2019 to 2024. A total of 129 articles were found, and 24 articles met the inclusion criteria for further review. The analysis identified four main attributes that influenced the decision to choose vasectomy: knowledge, wife support, economic factors, and planning for the number of children. Antecedents such as age, education, and occupation shaped the level of knowledge, which, together with wife support and economic factors, influenced the family's decision to choose vasectomy. Consequently, vasectomy is accepted as an effective, safe, and cost-effective family planning method. This analysis highlights the need for comprehensive information and support to enhance men's participation in family planning programs through vasectomy.
