Abstract

Hilal observations was conducted from October 2008 to April 2010 using a telescope and electronic detec-tor. The data obtained were analyzed based on the measurement and the calculation of delta azimuth, arc of vision, arc of light, age and lag time stated at best time for observed Hilal or at sunset/sunrise for unobserved Hilal. For delta azimuth 0o, Hilal can be observed if arc of vision was greater than 8,95o, arc of light was greater than 8,33o, age more than 12,08 hour after/before conjunction and lag was longer than 28,97 minutes. Based on these criteria, Ramadhan, Shawal, and Dhulhijjah 1431 H will begin on 12 August 2010, 10September 2010, and 8November 2010, respectively.

Abstract

Onion demand in Bali is supplied from other provinces in about 40%, therefore onion is one of prospective commodity to be developed in Bali. An assessment on respond of onion to organic fertilizer was done in Sanggalangit Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency of Bali Province from July to September 2008. The trial was designed using Randomized Complete Block Design with 5 replications. Fertilization treatments tested were RB 10 t ha-1, cow urine 15,000 l ha-1, combination of RB 5 t ha-1 + cow urine 7,500 l ha-1, and without fertilizer as control. Organic fertilizer could improve physical character of the soil in term of decrease bulk density from 1,149 g cm-3 to 1.111 g cm-3–1.085 g cm-3 and improve growth and yield of onion. Onion yield significantly increased 32.71%–60.77% compared to control. Utilization of organic fertilizer, RB and cow urine, which will applied either singly or combination can improve physical character of the soil and increase the yield of onion.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of maintain method based on small, big and mixed groups hatching weight on performance at the age of six weeks. 122 female Day Old Duck (DOD) were used. The ducks were partitioned based on hatching weight. DOD with more than 42 g was classifi ed as a big group and less or equal to 42 g were classifi ed as small group. Mixed group was taken from those two groups randomly. Feed consumption and conversion, growth and weight of ducks at the age of six weeks were measured. The research used Random Group Analysis. The result showed signifi cant different (P<0,01) of growth and the weight. Feed consumption and conversion of each groups (small, big and mixed) did not showed the differences (P>0,05).Separated maintain method duck based on hatching weight (small and big groups) did not give better performance than mixed group method.

Abstract

Literary of history is a literary work that contains elements of history. Those elements are removed through characterizations, places, and events. “Luka Beku” by Hary B. Kori’un is a short story contained those elements. Through a historical approach, this analysis presents the historicity contained in this short story. This analysis also uses mimetic approach, because this short story is a work of imaginative truth which is artificial. As a result of analysis, there is a description about a historical event in “Luka Beku”, that is May 1998 riot in Jakarta.

Abstract

Continuous fishing can threat the sustainability of shrimp resources. Studying of biological aspects can be used as a basic knowledge to manage shrimp responsible fisheries. Research about biological aspects of banana shrimp (Penaeus merguiensis) was conducted on April to December 2011 in Pemangkat waters, Sambas district. Data were collected from the fisherman landed in Pemangkat fishing port. Composition of male and female were an unequal in sex ratio. The shrimps was dominated by the size of 23 to 25 mm on carapace length. Individually, female carapace length was 30% longer than male. The growth characteristic was isometric in male and female. Spawning occurred all year around, and reach its peak on November. Carapace length at first capture of banana shrimp was 23,75 mm and carapace length at first maturity was 33,67 mm. Fishing pressure at this water was high and the capture dominated by the young shrimp. This condition threat the sustainability of shrimp fisheries.

Abstract

Sumba cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea citrinocristata) is an endangered endemic bird, which requires a serious attention. Sumba cockatoo is protected by Government Regulation No.7/1999 and the Ministry of Forestry Regula- tion No. 350//Kpts-11/1997. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics and habitat preferences of Sumba cockatoo at Laiwangi Wanggameti National Park (LWNP) of East Nusa Tenggara Province. Vegetation analysis by making plots of 2 km in length with a total of 20 plots per location was used to discover the habitat characteristics. Chi-square test was used to determine the preference of cockatoo habitat variable. The habitat preference was analyzed by Neu’s method. The result showed that the habitat of Sumba cockatoo at LWNP has a relatively good richness of species with relatively even numbers each (good evenness). The habitat variables at LWNP were at altitude with the range of 251–400 meters above the sea level and the grade of slopeness was rather steep i.e. 26–40 % whereas the rampnesss is at 3–8 %. The most preferred location of Sumba cockatoo was at Billa forest block.

Abstract

Study on the determination of the maturity level of salam (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walpers) fruit for seedling with germination test and vigor of seed was conducted at Macropropagation Laboratory, Research Centre for Biology, Cibinong Science Center. The experiments were carried out in 3 stages i.e. stage-1, observation of morphological and anatomical characteristics of fruits and seeds. Stage-2, determine of seed germination percentage on 3 levels of fruit maturity. Stage-3, determine of seedling vigor in 3 level of fruit maturity. There were arranged with a Completely Randomized Design. The results showed that there were 3 levels of fruit maturity of Syzygium polyanthum based on morphological of skin color i.e. pre-ripe (reddish green), ripe (red) and after-ripe (red-black). In general, the morphological characteristics of fruits and seeds of ‘salam’ was not different i.e. the fruit is globular buni, slick texture; and the seeds is oval, soft texture, the location of ‘hilum’ at the end, elongated shape, the color is white, position concave. The color of the endosperm is green, the embryo located at the base, and the color is green. However, different in size, the more mature fruit, the larger diameter (8.0-13.7) mm, thick meat (1.0-2.4) mm, as well as the diameter of seed, either cross-sectional (3,2-8.0) mm and longitudinal (3.9-10.1) mm. The seeds germinate quickly, on day 2 already germinated 10-20%, on day 7 reaches 80-95%. The percentage of seed germination at pre-ripe fruit showed the highest (93.33%), the highest germination rate, the most rapid germination rate (3.83 days), also the highest germination value (226.67) than the other. There for, it was recommended for the harvesting of fruit on the pre-mature level, with the color fruit of reddish green.

Abstract

The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the properties of binderless particleboard from oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB). The pretreatment was boiling in water for 60 minutes and then dried. The dried OPEFB was shredded into fibers and cut into particles (1–5 cm and 6-10 cm). The particles were formed on alluminium foil and then pressed at temperature of 150°C for 10 minutes using pressure of 25 kgf/cm2, 30 kgf/cm2, and 35 kgf/cm2. Particleboard samples were made with a target density of 0.7 g/cm3. The value of density, moisture content, modulus of rupture (MOR), and modulus of elasticity (MOE) were determined based on Japan Industrial Standard (JIS) A 5908: 2003. The particleboards density were 0.566~0.636g/cm3 and the moisture content were 5.17~7.13%. The highest value of MOR and MOE were 2.52 N/mm2 and 223.29 N/mm2. It’s from particleboards with the particle size of 6-10 cm and the pressure of 35 kgf/cm2. The physical properties of particleboards were met the JIS standards while the mechanical properties were not met the standard.
