Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research aims at classifying important aspects related to sociolinguistics in rendering English metaphors into Indonesian. The study touches on several aspects dealing cross cultural understanding in translating metaphors taken from novel, TV serial, text bookin 2008. The cultural aspect in metaphors is related to important aspect of metaphors, namely, point of similarity, image, and figurative language. There are four types of metaphors in the paper: closed similes, open similes, live metaphors, and dead metaphors. The research reveals that: (1) Translation of closed similes can be rendered by applying literal translation meaning the focus of translation is on linguistics point of view. Translating direct metaphors (similes) is easier to transferthan indirect comparison (‘live’ and ‘dead’ metaphors). Transferring open similes needs the knowledge of the source and target language culture due to the absence of the point of similarity in the sentence. While, translating “dead” metaphors can be more understandable than ‘live’ metaphors by considering topic, image, and figurative language in both languages. (2) The paper is also trying to perform the difficulties in rendering English metaphors into Indonesian occur due to lack of standard Indonesian equivalent.

Abstract

The existence of a number of R & D institutions in transport, thus far the R & D not been widely used by industry or stakeholders so that the competence of R & D institutions often questionable. Then the efforts of partnership being forged between R & D institutions with limited transportation industry human resource development, utilization of facilities and infrastructure R & D and form partnerships that are not formal. So that has not produced a breakthrough technology that can be used commercially and has values competitiveness. It required leadership R & D institutions are not only a scientist but also well-spirited entreprenour, competence for R & D institutions have a bargaining position in science and technology independence. Thus the expected competence of R & D institutions in the future to realize the BSN (Large Significant and Real).

Abstract

The regional enterprise which is the local government company is wholly or mainly derived from separated capital region. There are currently two mainstream paradigms (whose capital) in the management of regional enterprises. On one side, the region is one of the main instruments of Corporate Government in order to optimize local resources into investments that can increase revenue (profit) for regional own revenue. On the other side, the role of government as a public servant (public service) requires the regional enterprise not only for profit per se, but more expected to be a medium in order to carry out government functions and public services to accelerate the development process. Regional Enterprise Warehousing and Business Miscellaneous (PD PAU) Samarinda was originally formed to perform a warehousing arrangement spread into the region in the middle of town, but in the course of subsequent, PD PAU had disoriented businesses and financial crisis, making PD PAU verge of bankruptcy with some complexity issues. In order to save the business of PD PAU, several steps can be taken by the City Government of Samarinda to restructure the PD PAU, requiring policy measures for restructuring efforts, such as reformulation of business vision, management restructuring, verification of balance sheet, business rela- tions expansion, and addition of new capital.

Abstract

Barium hexaferrite (BaFe12O19) is a permanent magnet material known as a hard magnet. Microstructures and magnetic properties of MgO-Al2 O3 (0.3 0.9; and 1.5 % mole) addition in BaFe12O19 have been investigated. The mixing powders of Barium Hexaferrite have been prepared by the mechanical alloying method. Particle sizes of the mixing powder show that the particle size increases with the higher concentration of MgO-Al2 O3 additives. The mixing powders are compacted into pellets and sintered with temperatures of 1,100 and 1,200 °C for 2 hours. Herein, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) results show that the samples have a hexagonal structure, and their sizes and shapes are not homogeneous. Hardness values linearly decrease with the increasing of MgO-Al2 O3 (908.58 to 531.81 HV) comparable with bulk density measurements (4.85 to 4.52 g/cm2 ). On the other hand, Paragraph and Gaussmeter measurement shows a decreasing trend as the MgO-Al2 O3 additives content increased. Flux density results decline from 816.00 to 706.20 G, then magnetic remanence decreases from 2.29 to 1.92 kG and saturation magnetization drops from 3.44 to 2.93 kG. In addition, coercivity decreases from 3.83 to 2.52 kOe in proportion to the increasing of sintering temperature.

Abstract

The main challenges to overcome in biodiesel production from microalgae are lower oil yield, as compared to those derived from plant and animal biomass, and expensive culture media. This work was aimed to compare the effectivity of three extraction methods differed in solvent used, e.g. n-hexane (N-hex), ethanol (Eth), and mixture of chloroform-methanol-water (CMW), to extract crude lipid and biodiesel from dry biomass of Chlamydomonas sp. ICBB 9113. This microalgae was cultivated in a cheap culture media using N and P soil fertilizers as nutrient sources. The results showed that, by using N-hex, Eth, and CMW methods, it could be extracted, respectively, 0.06%, 4.51%, and 20.45% crude lipid, and 384.2, 1333.8, and 2430.6 mg/100g biodiesel. The fatty acid profile of the studied microalgae biomass was: C8:0 (0.11%), C10:0 (0.09%), C14:0 (7.70%), 16:0 (1.39%), C18:0 (0.85%), C14:1 (5.12%), C16:1 (7.09%), C18:1 (8.28%), C18:2 (12.80%), and C18:3 (42.57%). Fatty acid characterization showed that Chlamydomonas sp. ICBB 9113 was dominated by C18: 3 and C16:0. Therefore, these microlagae were suitable to be used as raw material for biodiesel production to substitute the conventional fuel.

Abstract

Arabian poetry reading has still continued in the religious tradition in Indonesia. The poetry which is usually read in this tradition are about praise poetry to The Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. One of them are Mawlid Syarafal Anam (MSA), but the reading has not been balanced with the comprehension of the meaning and main aim of the poetry. Despite the less comprehension, the poet wanted the reader can understand and interprete the meaning in every each verse. This study will analyze the words and sentences in MSA which is identified the representation of sufi identify. The aim in this paper is to reveal sufi identity which is represented in words and sentences. The society of MSA is expected to have a new knowledge about sufi identity which is describe in this paper. The method using to identify the sufi identity is the descriptive one. The data is collected by classified the words and sentences which has identify the sufi in MSA. The data then are analyzed by qualitative approach based on identity theory of Stuart Hall. The result of analysis based on the collected data shows that there is sufi identity in the poet of MSA. The identity is clearly shown by the words and sentences about ahwal, one of sufi thought. There are three ahwal: longing, devotion, (both are to Allah and the Prophets), and introspection. Those ahwal in MSA make this poetry are unique than the other.

Abstract

The mesophilic, thermophilic, and maturation phases were recognized in the composting process. Temperaturechanges in the process influence the microbial communities in compost. Actinobacteria account for a largerpart of compost microbial population. The aim of this research was to study of Actinobacteria community duringcomposting of dairy-farm waste. Actinobacteria from the compost were isolated using selective media, starchnitratemedium and humic-acid+vitamins medium. The colour of colony and medium pigment were characterizedusing culture-dependent method. The results showed, total and resident Actinobacteria isolates from mesophilicphase is 29 and 24 isolates, 23 and 16 isolates from thermophilic phase, while 19 and 9 isolates from maturationphase. Twenty two isolates found in more than one phase. Thus, the dynamics of Actinobacteria was occurredwithin composting process.
