Abstract

New improved variety is a component of technology that hold an important role in increasing rice production. Farmers preferences of improved varieties have to be known because it affects on the level of farmer adoption of new paddy varieties. The aims of this research are to understand the characteristics of paddy that are important to farmers and to know the most prefered new varieties in Donggala. The research is a participatory research which supported by site observation. The data were analyzed by perceived quality method. The results show that the characteristics that are important to farmers preference in Donggala are production, pest and disease rate, the number of tillers, rice texture, the ease of harvest, the age of harvest, plant height and panicle length. However the paddy variety which is most favored by the farmers in Donggala is Inpari 4.

Abstract

The effectiveness of 4cm x 4cm x 4cm pyramidal absorber lining arrangement on stripline field strength calibration has been studied in the EN 55020 laboratory at Testing Technology Division, P2SMTP-LIPI. The calibration procedure refers to CISPR 20 using Toyo IM5/A software at 84 frequencies from 0.15 -150 MHz. The number of calibrations is the representation of absorber combination number. This is needed to get the value of. RF voltage stripline average deviations depending on absorber number. The result of the data analysis shows that the maximum decreasing of average deviation voltage is 11.186%. However such installation still gives average deviation 0.689dB above deviation limit of ± 2dB.

Abstract

Semedo is a site with archaeological potential of animal vertebrate fossils and stone tools. Human fossilsas cultural actors on the site until now has not been found. In early January 2011, people found the order ofhuman skeleton on this site. This research was conducted with the objective of identifying the human species andits relationship with the fossil vertebrates and stone tools available at this site. The method used in this study is asurvey of observations and literature studies. This research is important given the results of this study will be usedas a basis for policy making and management framework of the findings Semedo Site.

Abstract

Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) for the tropical region were developed to model topsoil total carbon and nitrogen variations, by using input parameters of Digital Elevation Model—DEM, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index—NDVI and bioclimatic variables. Puerto Rico dataset was used to develop the model, while West Java, Indonesia was chosen for the model application. Using 22 input parameters derived from the three soil forming factors (relief, vegetation, and climate), the PTF could explain 71% and 66% of the soil total carbon and nitrogen variations, while comparable results were obtained from reduced input parameters (RMSE 3.12% and 0.05% for topsoil total carbon and nitrogen, respectively). This result suggests that application of PTFs to model soil properties variation, especially in the tropical region, could be used to generate reliable pre-assessment information to support decision making in the land productivity improvement plan.

Abstract

The fruit of strawberry contain phenolic compounds of vitamin C, B1, and B2 which is beneficial for health The successful of strawberry micropropagation depending on the ability of explants to produce large number of plantlets in short time. In order to increase the number of plantlets by organogenesis the use of plantlet stems as explants need to be optimized. The aim of this research was to investigate the potential of stem plantlet explants on the shoot proliferation of strawberry using 8 medium treatments. Research was conducted in the Plant Breeding Laboratory at Citrus Research Centre and Subtropical Fruit Indonesia, started from February to September 2011. The results showed that explant from stem of plantlet from meristem culture of strawberry could be used as initial material to proliferate strawberry plantlet. High number of plantlet (5.73) was produced on MS medium containing combination of plant growth regulator BAP and NAA at concentration of 0.5 mg/l and 0.025 mg/, respectively.

Abstract

There are some approaches that can be done to quantify the risk for investors in order to produce maximum yields and one of the models used is the Arbitrage Pricing Theory (APT). APT is considered more flexible than the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) because the model can use a variety of various macroeconomic factors in calculating the risk premium of an asset or to establish a model of asset valuation. Macroeconomic factors of an established model can change over time so does the risk premium contained. The purpose of this study is to do analysis using APT whether macroeconomic variables (oil prices, the exchange rate of IDR against the USD, and the rate of inflation) are factors that affected stock returns in sectoral index in Indonesia. This study uses the time span from January 2007 to December 2012 with the object of study is 9 different sectors in sectoral stocks indice, whereas the method used is multiple linear regression. This study concludes that among the three macroeconomic factor that are used as research material (crude oil prices, the exchange rate of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar, and inflation), the dollar exchange rate is the most significant factors in measuring the sensitivity of return of sectoral stocks indice.

Abstract

Martensitic stainless steels have been extensively used for a turbine blade. Their properties can be improved in various ways, such as by heat  treatment. This paper aims to investigate the influence of heat treatment on microstructure and corrosion resistance in martensitic stainless steel 13Cr-1Mo. Samples were austenitized at 950 ºC, 1.000 ºC, 1.050 ºC, 1.100 ºC, and tempered at 600 ºC. Austenitized sample at 1.050 ºC was subsequently tempered at 300 ºC, 400 ºC, 500 ºC, 550 ºC, 600 ºC, 650 ºC, and 700 ºC. The tests consist of metallographic observation which was conducted by using an optical microscope and corrosion tests which were conducted by using 3,5% NaCl solution. The results show the evolution of microstructure in martensitic stainless steel 13Cr-1Mo after heat treatment. The microstructure formed consists of tempered martensite, delta ferrite, retained austenite, and carbides. The presence of carbides can also affect corrosion resistance, which will increase along with the increase of tempering temperature due to the increased content of Cr in the carbides. The highest value corrosion resistance was obtained at the austenitizing temperature of 1.050 ºC and tempering temperature of 600 ºC.

Abstract

Eutrophic waters are one triggering factor for the explosion of harmful phytoplankton populations. The aim of this study is to determine the abundance of phytoplankton in floating net cage area Jatiluhur Reservoir. Research carried out in January and March of 2009 and 2010. Water sample taken vertically by water depth, and taken temporally based on the observation time. The composition of phytoplankton and it is abundance in 2010 in Jatiluhur Reservoir less than 2009. 48–49 genus of phytoplankton found on 2009 and on 2010, just 20–25 species found. Based on its composition Chlorophyceae class more than others and based on its abundance, the Cyanophyceae class more dominated. The composition and the abundance of phytoplankton have a different pattern in every observation time and also changed by its depth. The highest of Cyanophyceae class indicated that Jatiluhur reservoir was eutrophic waters.
