Abstract

The level of contamination, bioaccumulation and potential trophic transfer of toxic pollutants known as brominated flame retardants (BFRs), such as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocychlododecanes (HBCDs), was examined in biota representing different trophic levels in Jakarta Bay. Various organisms were collected using several catching methods during July-August 2007 at eastern part of the bay and were analyzed for nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) stable isotopes, 14 PBDE congeners and three HBCD isomers using GC-C-IRMS, GC-MS and LC-MS/MS, respectively. Analysis of N and C indicated that the biota was composed by different trophic levels within the Jakarta Bay ecosystem. Concentrations of total PBDEs and total HBCDs varied according to species, ranged from 1.6 ng/g lipid wt. to 57 ng/g lipid wt. and below detection limit (nd) to 4.1 ng/g lipid wt, respectively. Furthermore, there was significant positive correlation between trophic level (TL) and concentration of PBDEs was found, but not HBCDs. Trophic Magnification Factors (TMF) values of PBDEs ranged 0.63–3.0 with only two congeners (BDE-47 and BDE–100) having TMFs greater than one.

Abstract

The access security awareness using conventional keys was less practical and much risky of leaving or even loosing the keys. Besides, access can not be locked automatically whenever the authentic user forgets to lock the door. The purposed of this research was to develop the electronic lock system design using personal identification number (PIN). Using PIN as an access key will give an easier method for the authenticated user without decreasing security level, and also it is more practical and easier since the authentic user doesn't need any key at all. This electronic lock design uses microcontroller AT89C52 for main control of the system which could be implemented on restricted area like laboratories or residences as well. More than 6000 PIN data can be saved in the serial memory 24LC65, and it will be accessed when the user enter the correct PIN.

Abstract

Social networking sites, is one of the new forms of communication media that have an impact on changing modes of human interaction. One of the social movement-based social networking site in Indonesia is #IndonesiaUnite. This movement began as an effort to show the Twitter users in a positive representation of Indonesia after the bombing. In its development, this movement turned into a collective movement that construct the ideas of nationalism. This paper aims to understand the construction process of nationalism discourse that emerged from the #IndonesiaUnite movement. In addition, this study also attempts to understand the role of social networking sites in the spread of the discourse. In order to answer that questions, discourse analysis is utilized as an analysis method. It turns out that social network sites affecting discourse to spread rapidly. It is caused by social network features that allows its user to see the discourse construction process.

Abstract

Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br is a local species with a broad distribution and has a fairly high economic value. This study was aimed to determine the growth variation of Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br from several population sources at three years old in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. The experimental design used was randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two factors, namely the population sources (Lombok, Jayapura, Solok, Timor, and Bali) and parent trees (48 parent trees). In this study parent trees nested in the population sources. Each parent trees planted four trees per plot, four replicates (blocks) with a spacing of 4 x 2 m. Results of variance analysis showed that the population sources significantly influenced by survival rates, the height of growth and stem diameter, and then parent trees affected considerably to the height of growth and stem diameter. The best survival rates were occupied by the Lombok population (93.32%), Bali population (91.96%), and Timor population (89.06%). The best height of growth was occupied by Lombok population (3.04 m) and Bali population (2.88 m), and for stem diameter was Lombok population (5.92 cm). There were seven best parent trees in the height of growth in a range between 3.25 to 3.72 m and 19 best parent trees in the growth of stem diameter ranging from 5.82 to 7.28 cm.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Kecamatan Majalaya. Kecamatan Majalaya is chosen as locus of this re- search because of its uniquenesses. One of its uniquenesses is a diversity of communities that have experienced acculturation and language. The data examined in this study amounted to one hundred and seven vocabularies. The method used in this study is descriptive, i.e. a method that aims to create a portrait or depiction on data, at- tribute, and relationships of phenomena under study in a systematic, factual, and accurate way. Thus, the expected result is to establish the description of vocabulary in form of a portrait or disclosure as it is. The purpose of this study is to identify the development of the vocabularies in Bandung’s geographical dialect, that is the frontier of lulugu Sundanese (formal language) and Bandung Sundanese (informal language). The results showed that there was a wide difference between Majalaya northern dialect with South Majalaya in phonologic-morphophonemic, such as language symptoms of metathesis, protesis, epentesis, aperesis, syncope, and apocope. Beside that, there are morphological differences in repeated words (reduplication) and compound (compositum), while in semantical differences, there may be a completely different form, but the inherent meaning is still the same.

Abstract

Dry season is a fator affecting plant growth. If climate anomaly El-Nino that causing prolonged dry season happens, the effect on the plant growth will be bigger. On 2015, El-Nino is happening. The presence of climate anomaly like La-Nina and El-Nino can be predicted by SOI (South Oscilation Index) released by Australian Bureau of Meteorology. Continued positive SOI value indicates symptomps of La-Nina climate anomaly and continued negative SOI value indicates symptomps of El-Nino climate anomaly. This research was aimed to determine the effect of El-Nino climate anomaly that causing prolonged dry season on the growth of PB 260 clone in Sembawa Research Centre Experimental Field. This research was conducted by comparing the growth of PB 260 clone during wet season and prolonged dry season. The result shows that under condition of 2015 El-Nino phenomenon, the growth rate of PB260 clone was decreased until 75%. The attemps to minimalize the effect of El-Nino on the growth of rubber clone was by selecting appropriate clone and location where the clone was planted, water conservation, and K fertilization with double dosage.

Abstract

The research was conducted to determine the nitrogen balance in etawa descendant goat (PE) that is fed at different levels of concentrate and forage diets. Nine PE goats with average body weight of 23,98 ± 3,18 kg were used in this research for three months. This study was arranged in a completely randomized block design with 3 treatments and three blocks as replications. Treatments were PE goats fed 55% forage diets (Pennisetum purpureum) + 45% consentrate (A) ;  PE goats fed 70% forage diets (P. purpureum: Gliciridia sepium = 2 : 3) + 30% concentrate (B) ; and PE goats fed 85% forage diets (P. purpureum: G. sepium : Hibiscus tilliacius = 1: 3 :1) +15% concentrate (C). Parameters of N intake, N digestible, N retention, biological value and net nitrogen utilization were observed. The result indicated that C treatment was the best of nitrogen balance with nitrogen retention was 14,5 g/d. This result was consistent with the highest dry mater intake of treatment C. This study suggests that PE goats which are given treatment C resulted the best nirogen balance.
