Abstract

The number of the cigarette smoker in Indonesian is rapidly increasing. Based on that fact, as the authority, government represents his power by issued smoking warning message. The message is set in cigarette packages and other public cigarette advertisements. The language in the message contains warning, irony , and intimidation about the danger of smoking. That language is the representation of coercive power that leads the subordinate doing what the authority said. This study discusses the use and the factor behind the coercive power in the language of smoking warning message. The theory uses in this study is critical discourse analysis, while the method is qualitative descriptive. The result shows there are four types of the representation of coercive power. Those four are warning, prohibition, prohibition along with the intimidation, and irony.

Abstract

This paper discusses an effort to identify the precursor condition for “puting beliung” or tornado-like eventwhich was occured in Pangkalpinang town on January 9, 2008. The analyses has been done based on the dynamicpipe effect of tornado genesis theory. Several data obtained from surface observation as well as the advantage ofsatellite data image were used to identify signal of presence of puting beliung. The result indicates that the putingbeliung event was triggered by the presence of low level wind shear which was supported by favorable surfacecondition such as the existing of enough water vapor aloft indicated by high relative humidity, enough surfaceheating to initiate a rapid cooling of the atmosphere to produce deep convection, and there is an initiation of alocal anomaly surface wind speed to produce low level wind shear. Revealed surface precursor for puting beliungin Pangkalpinang are the rapid increasing the relative humidity one hour in advance, together with rapid drop intemperature and the presence of “horn-like” pressure anomaly.

Abstract

Ti-6Al-4V Extra Low Interstitial (ELI) alloys have been widely used for biomedical application as implant materials due to its excellent mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance. Furthermore, mechanical properties of this alloy could be improved by heat treatment process. In this research, it has been studied the effect of heat treatment temperature on microstructure and hardness properties of casted Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy. After calculation of material balance to obtain this alloy composition, raw materials were melted using single arc melting furnace flowed with argon gas and melted alloy was casted. Then, it was heat treated by solution treatment for around 1 hour and subsequently quenched in water as medium. Solution temperature was given with temperature variables of  850oC, 950oC and 1050oC.  After that, it was aged at temperature of 500oC for 4 hours. Microstructures were observed using optical microscope and hardness value were obtained by Vickers hardness method. The results of microstructure observation showed that it was changed after heat treatment process, especially on morphology of α and β phase. Thus, the hardness of alloy significantly increased compared with as-cast condition after heat treatment process. The optimum value of hardness was obtained at temperature of 850oC that was 478 HVN.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah has long used a method which is based on the calculation of the conjunction of the Moon and the Sun to determine the beginning of Islamic months. If the conjunction happens before sunset and sunset happens before moonset, then the next day is the beginning of an Islamic month. Such a method often produces dates of the beginning of Islamic months which are earlier than the actual visibility of the lunar crescent. This research was conducted to compare the determination of the beginning ofIslamic months produced by different criteria. The criteria compared were Muhammadiyahs', Lapan's, SAAO's, and Odeh's. Astronomical data needed were obtained from Accurate Times 5.1 software for Cibinong area as the location of reference. Calculations were performed to determine the beginning of Islamic months starting from Sha'ban 1429 until Shawwal 1430. Comparison of the dates produced by the four criteria shows that those calculated by Muhammadiyah .'s criterion yielded in five differences out of 15 data points observed. It calls for a review on the criterion.

Abstract

This research has objectives to explore the effect of electricity subsidy to the financial performance of The State Electricity Company (PT PLN) and to describe the proportion of electricity subsidy compared to the total government expenditure and total central government expenditure. The method of this research is literature review with qualitative approach by exploring information through secondary data collection. This research used a descriptive analysis to interpret the collected data. The result showed that on average 40 percent revenue of PT PLN was derived from government subsidy with the total more than Rp50 trillion on average each year for electricity subsidy. Based on this fact, this research recommends government to decrease the electricity subsidy and allocate them to increase people’s welfare.

Abstract

Bena Village is a traditional village that still holds its customs, tradition and religion. The belief to worshipof ancestral spirits still exists although some people have been as a Christian. The problem of this study is how thereligious systems of indigenous communities in Bena village. The method of the study is interpretive descriptivequalitative method. In the result discussion of the study explained that the worship of ancestral spirits is reflectedin the various religious rituals procession. There are always the power of ancestral spirits in each ritual. Start fromthe toothfilling ceremony, building a house ceremony, manufacture of Ngadhu and Bhaga ceremony, those all weredone with ritual worship of ancestral spirit. Keywords: System of Religion, Life cycle, Symbols

Abstract

Coastal development in Ambon Bay led to increased sedimentation and pollutant into the waters. It  effects on organism in Ambon Bay, including coral reefs. This study aims to look the condition of coral reef. The study method is Line Intercept Transect (LIT) in eight observasion stations, two stations in the inner bay and six stations in the outside bay. The results showed there has been a decline in coral cover in the area that has development activities and high antropogenic activity like Hative Besar, Poka, Kota Jawa, Halong, and Hunuth station. As for areas that have lesser development activity and antropogenic activity, the condition of coral cover increased as happened at Lilibooy, Eri, and Batu Capeu stations. Stations that have coral reefs “very good category” is at St. Eri station, “good category” is at St. Lilibooy station, “medium category” is at St. Kota Jawa station and St. Batu Capeu while “bad category” are at St. Hative Besar, St. Poka, St. Halong and St. Hunuth stations. Coral growth at each station is dominated by a non-acropora group. The life forms are massive corals and submassive corals from Porites, Favites, Platygyra, Millepora, Symphyllia, Lobophyllia, Styphora and Pavona genus.

Abstract

Simple photometric determination of silver was developped. The determination incorporated 2,4,5,7-tetraiodofluorescein (erythrosine) as chromogenic reagent to form positive colloid with silver ion, not ion associate as initially assume. The colloid was then stabilized with starch and this ternary system erythrosine-silver-starch was applied as basis in determination of trace amount of silver (0–6 µg/ml). The developped method was successfully applied to determine silver in three synthetic samples and came with accuracy > 96.87% after compared to atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) results and reproducibility < 8.8%.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of maintenance model to the incidence of coccidiosis desease in Bali calves at Musi Village, Gerokgak sub district of Buleleng Regency. The study involved 42 Bali cattle which consisted of 21 cows and 21 calves of Bali cattle. Those animal stall were divided into 3 groups of P0, P1 and P2. P0 groups did not adopt a healthy stall structure or termed as traditional rearing, with poor sanitation. P1 adopted a stall structure with a healthy level of sewage treatment plants with less sanitation. P2 groups adopted stall structures and sewage treatment plants healthy with good sanitation. Observed variables were the number of coccidiosis cases in calves of each group. Result showed that the case of calf coccidiosis in order from the highest incidence was 85.71%; 57.14% and 0% at the P0, P1 and P2 groups, respectively. This study indicates that good stall management suppresses the case of bovine calf coccidiosis in Bali cattle.
