Abstract

Piglet birth weight has an economic value and commonly correlated with weaning weigh. Therefore, birth weight traits of piglet needs to be selected for genetic improvement. The purpose of a study was to estimate the genetic improvement of piglet birth weight based on heritability and breeding value. Around 154 heads of offsprings generated from 6 sires and 14 sows were used in this study. The data of piglet birth weight was analyzed for heritability (nested classification), breeding value, selection response, and genetic improvement estimation. The result showed that the heritability (h2) of offsprings was 0.24±0,15. Based on breeding value, sires which had high piglet birth weight can be used for male ranking. Selection of response value was 0.06 kg. According to the selection of response value, improvement of birth weight in piglet based on the sire used can be estimated.

Abstract

This research discusses about Pasar Pontianak in the changing of management system during colonial time. The purpose of this research is to analyze the background for deleting pacht pasar in 1919 and the effect after being directly handled by the local government through pasarfonds. To do the research, historical research method was used. The result of this research shows that the changing in the system was caused by the increasing number of workers and colonial government’s worries of the new political power based upon the economic strength of Tionghoa society as a main drive to trading in market. Meanwhile, the new colonial economic policy had triggered the growth in the market-forming elements, which were; the management system, places, trading subjects, com- modities, and trading activities.

Abstract

One of the radiopharmaceuticals that were used for diagnostic is conducted by using Technetium-99m (99mTc), which could be obtained from Molybdenum-99 (99Mo) separation. This research was conducted to determine the adsorbent polymer variation effect at two zirconium chromatography systems to obtain 99mTc yield more than 80%. Polymers were used zirconium-TEOS as adsorbents in the first system while the second system used Zirconium-TEOS-methanol. The same method was conducted for both systems. The preparation was done by adding 99Mo on both polymers and heated at 90 °C temperature for three hours. Elution process of 99Mo and 99mTc was conducted by using column chromatographic system, in which the column filled with Alumina is connected to the Zirconium polymer column. The elution process was conducted on the next day until 10th fractions. Both of the systems showed the 99mTc radionuclides were highest eluted at the 3rd fraction then they decline to constant at the 10th fraction. The 99mTc yield in the system 1 was 58% and the system 2 was 96.23%. The elution from the system 1 was not analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) because the 99mTc yield was less than 80%. Analysis results using AAS on the system 2 found out that the system 2 contained Si 1.11 ppm, and no other elements (Mo and Zr) was obtained. Based on Lethal Dose 50 (LD50), it is showed that the elution of system 2 is below the threshold (Mo = 4000 mg /kg, Zr = 489 mg /kg and Si = 22.5mg /kg), therefore it was safe to be used for diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals.

Abstract

Yam bean, neem, and nicotiana are natural pesticides for insect. Whitefly Bemisia tabaci Genn. is a pest and could decrease in soybean yield up to 80%. The aim of this research was to study the effectiveness of natural pesticides in controlling white fly. The research was carried out in ILETRI screen house and arranged in a 3 x 3 factorial randomized design with four replicates. Fisrt factor was three natural pesticides of yam bean, neem, nicotiana while the second factor was the time of aplications (two week after planting (WAP)-harvested), (2 WAP- floweres), (floweres-harvested). Dosage of each yam bean, neem or nicotin was 50 ml/l. Natural pesticides were sprayed over leaves. Parameters of whitefly population and injury intensity were observed. The result showed that whitefly population was lower in neem aplication (113 whitefly/3 leave trifoliate) and increased in control (684 whitefly/3 leave trifoliate), yam bean aplication (182 whitefly/3 leave trifoliate ) and nicotiana aplication (163 whitefly/3 leave trifoliate ). There was not interaction the kind of natural pesticides with time of application. This study shown that the neem natural pasticide at 2 WAP until harvest is effective in controlling the whitefly.

Abstract

Hammer mill is one kind of machine that needs high durability, especially for grinding components such as hammers, which has a function to crush stone (mineral) in to fi  nely shaped (mesh 80). So these components should be made from materials which have some properties, such as high strength, toughness, and wear resistance. In his experiment, the hammers was made from high alloy cast steel, by using mangan, chrom, and copper as alloying materials. The chemical composition of these hammers are: (1) 3~5% Mn – 3~5% Cr – 3~5% Cu; (2) 4~6% Mn – 3~5% Cr – 7~9% Cu; (3) 3~5% Mn – 4~6% Cr – 7~9% Cu; (4) 3~5% Mn – 3~5% Cr – 10~12% Cu; (5) 5~7% Mn – 4~6% Cr – 14~16% Cu. Some of mechanical testing was given to these hammers, such as hardness testing, microstructure analysis testing, and also durability evaluation by using hammer mill machine with capacity 300 kg iron ore/hour. From durability evaluation, those hammers which are made from high alloy cast steel, with mangan, chrom, and copper as alloying material, showed a good result in wear rates by less than 0.4 mm2/kg iron ore. The lowest wear rates of this hammers is 0.14 mm2/kg iron ore, showed by hammers which had a composition 1.6%C – 3.2%Mn – 4.5% Cr – 3.2%Cu with 360 HBN in hardness value.

Abstract

Motorcycle population growth more than 12,1% a year in Bali involved in increasing number of motorcycleaccident. To minimized accident rate at road that had high percentage of motorcycle like Sunset Road and 4/2Dtype of geometric a motorcycle lane (MCL) can be applied. Feasibility of MCL Application must fulfil criteriaaccident rate, motorcycle proportion, operational speed, saturation degree (V/C) at peak-hour volume (PHV) andminimum road width. Data of traffic volume and motorcycle speed were collected for 8 hours and analyze withMCL criteria (Idris, 2008) and minimum width road. Sunset Road assumed had motorcycle accident rate 55,6%,motorcycle proportion (pcu) 42% or 500 pcu/hour, operational speed 62 km/hour, V/C= 0,45 and road width 6meters. Compared with the criteria, Sunset Road didn’t fulfilled motorcycle proportion criteria <1.200 pcu/hour,operational speed >44,17 km/hour, V/C <65 and road width <7,5 m, therefore MCL can’t be applied in SunsetRoad.

Abstract

Liriomyza huidobrensis is an invasive pest for various crops. Till now, the management of this pest is by the only use of pesticides which hence increased its resistance and decrease of its natural enemies. The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of cyromazine and parasitoids for reducing the population of leafminer fl y (L. huidobrensis) and to analyse the economic impact of the different treatments. The study was conducted in the Sirukem village, Kalibening sub district, Banjarnegara district, Central Java from July to November 2009. To address the objective, four treatment strategies were applied: no treatment, cyromazine, parasitoid release and cyromazine-parasitoid, and observa-tion of damage intensity, sampling of infested leaves, assessment of yield and an economic analysis were undertaken. The results found that cyromazine and parasitoids were effective to control against infestation of Liriomyza. Cyromazine was also harmless for parasitoids. The dominant parasitoid found were Opius chromatomyiae and Hemiptarsenus varicorni which preferred to parasitize the larvae of L.huidobrensis on Vicia faba than on Solanum tuberosum.
