Abstract

Purse seine was introduced at 1972 in Bali Strait and since then Bali sardine fish (Sardinella lemuru) are the most widely exploited by fishermen in these waters. One of the largest landing site of Bali Strait purse seiner is in Muncar, East Java. This study aims to estimate population parameters of Bali Strait oil sardine that were caught by purse seine in Muncar. Data were collected from August 2010 to December 2011, and were analyzed using FISAT II (version 1.1.3). The results showed growth parameters were L∞ = 20.75 cmFL; K=1.20 year-1 and t0=0.1456 year. The results of Z=6.39 year-1; M=1.78 year-1; F=4.61 year-1; and E=0.65. The exploitation rate in this study was greater than the optimum exploitation (Eopt), indicating an overfishing had occurred. The recruitment pattern of Bali sardine had two peaks a year, in February and July, where the recruitment in July was greater than February.

Abstract

Landfilling of municipal waste is a major problem of the waste management system in Indonesia. The generated leachate must be appropriately treated before being discharged into the environment because it ivas toxic. The aim of this research was to compare the coagulation, ozonation, coagulation-ozonation, and ozonation- coagulation processes of landfill leachate at  TPA Bantar Gebang Bekasi, to classify the result of landfill leachate treatment, and to provide an efficient methodf or the treatment ofleachates, in order to reduce pollutants' content to concentration values lower than the corresponding limits. The variables selected in this research were types of coagulant, dosage of coagulant, and time duration of ozonation process. Parameters selected in this research were colour, taste,  pH, Chemical Oxygen Demand ( COD), Total of Suspended Solid ( TSS), Chloride ion (Cl) and ammonia ion( NH4+). The result of research have shown that the best optimum method of landfall leachate treatment was coagulation-ozonation combination process using FeC13 0.25% as a coagulant and a ozonator (0.25 g 03//h) for 75 minutes at pH of 9. The process succeed to degrade the value of COD, Cl, NII; were about 90,91%, 13,45% , 6,68%, respectively and category of B grade for treated leachate.

Abstract

The issue of poverty that does not go over and the narrowness of employment encourage rural women of Ujungsemi village to migrate. Being maids, they could raise capital to buy land, build houses and to open the business after returning home. The economic difficulties that had been churned from resolved even more than enough. However, the above condition does not last long. They have to go back and start life at home. The problem of this research: how social and economic conditions of former migrant workers, as well as what strategies they are doing to maintain viability. Field data were obtained by using interview and observation techniques. The data analysis phase is the stage of reduction, display and analysis. Informants are selected using purposive samplingtechnique. This research indicates that the former migrant workers initially had a mass liminality when returning to village that impact on business start work; changes in social and employment status. For maintaining the viability, they make such a strategies, among others, the use of social networks; girls mobilization; minimization of the number of children; saving; production of subsistence and additional income, reduce the cost of living and the utilization of the loan.

Abstract

Interactions between human and environment about the influence of the physical atmosphere’s state or weather on human is expressed in com- fort level. The complex relationship between health and weather factors with human comfort is defined as biometeorological index. One of the biometeorological indices is heat index called as Humidex. Studies about Humidex in Jakarta were conducted using climate data stations of Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), namely air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed daily average during 1985 to 2012. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of thermal comfort using heat index Humidex in Jakarta and its climatological trends during 1985 to 2012. Comparative analysis between Humidex and the wind speed and also with the number of vehicles in Jakarta were conducted to determine their impact to the heat index in Jakarta. The results showed that the Humidex monthly average in Jakarta ranged between 36,1 °C and 39,5 °C. Humidex monthly pattern had two peaks with the first peak was on May and the second one was on November, while the lowest value was recorded on August and January. Humidex in Jakarta tended to increase between 0.05 °C and 0.08 °C with its coefficient of determination (R2) was between 0.36 and 0.71. The effect of wind speed to Humidex was lowering the value of Humidex which increased the thermal comfort. Meanwhile, the number of vehicles showed a tendency to grow exponentially, which affected the further decline in thermal comfort level in Jakarta.

Abstract

Fishermen exchange rate (NTN) is one of the tools or indicator to see the welfare of fishing communities. This paper aims to analyze the structure of received value index, paid value index and dynamic of NTN. This study uses a quantitative approach through surveys. The study was conducted in the Batu Lubang Village, South LembehDistrict, Bitung City, North Sulawesi Province in 2012. 31 respondents determinent by purposive sampling. This research using value index as a NTN instrument, is the ratio between fishermen received value index (It) with the fishermen paid value index (Ib). The results showed that received value index is strongly influenced by theproduction and price of tuna catch. Paid value index is strongly influenced by the variable cost of fishing. Fishermen exchange rate index experienced a downward trend so that it can be said that the welfare of fishermen also decreased.
