Abstract

Course scheduling is a fundamental activity in academic management; however, the complexity of room and teaching constraints often triggers schedule conflicts when processed conventionally. This study aims to design an automated course scheduling system at Universitas Muhammadiyah Karanganyar (UMUKA) by comparing the effectiveness of the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Queue-Based Scheduling (QBS). The system was developed using the Laravel framework and a NoSQL Database. Comparative experiments were conducted through six dynamic scenarios (ranging from 20 to 263 courses), measured using three metrics: the final number of conflicts, fitness value, and computational time. The results indicated that QBS was absolutely superior in computational speed (maximum 4.18 seconds) but failed to produce proportional schedule quality, as the fitness value remained at 0. Conversely, GA successfully generated conflict-free schedules in medium workloads and compensated for minor conflicts in massive workloads by achieving a significant spike in fitness value (reaching 462.2). Although requiring relatively longer computational time (36.2 seconds at the highest load), this duration remains highly efficient. In conclusion, GA is recommended as the primary algorithm for course scheduling systems due to its ability to perform global optimization proportionally. The main contribution of this research is providing empirical foundations and a comparative architecture for higher education institutions in selecting the most adaptive scheduling algorithm for local room infrastructure limitations and hard-constraint complexity.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the used car market in Indonesia has increased the need for an objective and data-driven approach to determine appropriate purchase prices. One of the main challenges in used car transactions is the subjectivity in price determination, which often leads to discrepancies between sellers and buyers. This study aims to develop an information system for predicting used car purchase prices using the Random Forest algorithm. The dataset used in this study consists of 301 records with attributes including brand, model, production year, engine capacity, mileage, fuel type, transmission, and region. The research methodology involves data collection, preprocessing, dataset splitting, model development, and evaluation. The model performance is evaluated using Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and R-Squared (R²). The results show that the Random Forest model achieves an MAE value of 22.654 and an R² value of 0.958, indicating that the model can explain 95.8% of the variance in the data with relatively low prediction error. The developed system implements an input–process–output mechanism, where user-provided vehicle data are processed by the trained model to generate price predictions automatically. The system is able to provide fast, accurate, and objective price estimates, thereby supporting better decision-making and improving transparency and efficiency in used car transactions.

Abstract

Education in the modern era requires innovation in learning media to improve students' understanding of abstract material, especially on material from the Hindu-Buddhist Kingdom heritage in Indonesia, such as temples and inscriptions. This study aims to develop Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media. The media is designed to overcome the limitations of conventional methods such as lectures and textbooks that are difficult to visualize. The research method uses Research and Development (R&D) with the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) development model. The resulting products include the SejaRah application, AR Books, and AR Cards. Students can scan markers to display three-dimensional objects of temples and inscriptions, equipped with audio explanations and interactive quizzes. The subjects of this study were grade IV elementary school students. Testing of the SejaRah learning media has been carried out by conducting a black box test with 100% appropriate results, content and media expert validity with a score of 100% each with the category "Very valid, or can be used without revision", and user response testing using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). The UEQ test results show the "Excellent" category in all aspects of the assessment. Thus, the learning media is declared valid and receives a positive user response so that it is suitable for use as a learning medium for the heritage of the Hindu-Buddhist kingdom in Indonesia for grade students. Abstract

The manual creation of student identity cards often encounters several challenges, including inaccurate photo placement, inconsistent sizing, and lengthy processing time. These issues reduce efficiency and result in non-uniform document outputs. This study aims to develop a client-side web-based system capable of detecting empty rectangular areas in identity card templates and automatically embedding student photos using OpenCV.js. The system applies the Canny Edge Detection method combined with contour analysis to identify empty box regions, while image interpolation techniques are used to proportionally adjust photo dimensions according to the detected area. Experimental results show that the proposed system has been successfully implemented and is capable of accurately detecting empty regions in high-quality documents. Based on evaluation using the Intersection over Union (IoU) method, the system achieves an average accuracy of 98.67%, indicating that the Canny method is effective in detecting photo areas. The automatic photo adjustment process produces proportionally correct and ready-to-use digital outputs. Therefore, the system improves efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in the student identity card creation process.

Abstract

Community-based waste management remains a challenge in residential environments, particularly due to low community participation in reporting waste bin conditions and the lack of information media for waste management activities. This condition highlights the need for technological innovation that can increase community involvement in waste management more effectively. This study aims to develop a technology-based innovation grounded in real community needs through the implementation of the Engineering Design Process (EDP). The research stages began with field observations to identify problems, followed by recording and grouping findings, formulating problems and solutions, creating initial sketches, comparing ideas with similar innovations, and selecting a solution in the form of a QR Code-based waste bin integrated with a website. Furthermore, a 3D design of the waste bin and a website interface were developed, followed by the construction of a simple prototype of the QR Code-based waste bin and a localhost-based website. The website provides features including a homepage, community profile, activity schedule, reporting, educational content, suggestion forms, and an admin page for data management. System testing was conducted through user testing involving community residents as system users. The results indicate that the majority of respondents considered the system easy to use, useful, and aligned with environmental needs, as reflected by positive feedback from all participants during interview-based testing. The study demonstrates that applying the Engineering Design Process through direct field observation can produce technological innovations that are relevant and provide tangible benefits for community-based waste management.

Abstract

Stock price prediction remains a complex task due to the dynamic nature of financial time series and the difficulty of extracting informative patterns from historical price movements. This study addresses the need to better understand whether the choice of model or the design of time series features plays a more dominant role in prediction performance. The objective of this research is to comparatively evaluate Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and Random Forest for stock price prediction using engineered time series features, while also assessing their ability to capture directional price movements. The proposed approach applies a structured pipeline involving data preprocessing, extraction of time series features (lag, moving average, and volatility), and evaluation using a time-aware data split to preserve temporal order. Unlike conventional studies that focus solely on prediction accuracy, this research integrates both regression-based evaluation (RMSE, MAE, and R²) and directional movement analysis using confusion matrix, along with feature importance interpretation to understand model behavior. The experimental results, based on 1,258 daily stock price records, show that XGBoost achieved an RMSE of 457.97, MAE of 345.28, and R² of 0.884, while Random Forest obtained an RMSE of 462.01, MAE of 351.02, and R² of 0.882. The difference in R² (0.002 or 0.2%) indicates that both models perform comparably, with no substantial performance gap. Directional evaluation further reveals that both models are more accurate in predicting upward trends than downward movements. These findings suggest that feature engineering plays a more critical role than model selection in this context, providing a practical contribution to the development of stock prediction systems.

Abstract

Ambon Bay in Maluku Province possesses significant tidal energy potential due to its semi-enclosed morphology and favorable tidal characteristics, making it a promising site for tidal barrage power development in Eastern Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the technical potential and economic feasibility of a tidal barrage power plant in Ambon Bay. Tidal energy potential was estimated using harmonic tidal data obtained from pasanglaut and the Marine Observation Research Agency (BROL), followed by energy conversion analysis based on tidal range and basin characteristics. The technical assessment was conducted using an analytical approach derived from hydrodynamic principles and benchmarked against existing tidal barrage systems. Economic feasibility was evaluated using the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) method, incorporating capital expenditure, operational costs, and Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), along with Net Present Value (NPV) analysis. The results indicate that Ambon Bay has a theoretical tidal energy potential of 31.05 GWh per year. A proposed 7 MW tidal barrage system could generate approximately 11.69 GWh annually with a capacity factor of 18.9%. The estimated capital cost is IDR 255,231,448 per kW, with an LCOE of IDR 15,324 per kWh. The economic analysis yields an NPV of -IDR 1,294,358,382,098.43, indicating that the project is not economically feasible under current conditions. These findings highlight that, despite its considerable technical potential, the development of tidal barrage power in Ambon Bay requires cost reduction strategies, policy support, or technological optimization to achieve economic viability.

Abstract

Limited real-time information on parking slot availability is one of the factors that causes vehicle queues, long parking search times, and potential congestion in parking areas of buildings, shops, and shopping centers. This study aims to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart parking system that is able to automatically detect parking slot availability and display information via a website in real-time. The system was developed using an ultrasonic sensor to detect the presence of vehicles in parking slots, an ESP32 microcontroller as a data processor and sender, a database as a slot status storage, a website as a monitoring medium, an LCD as a local information medium, and a servo motor as a parking barrier controller. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with a Prototyping model, which includes the stages of needs analysis, system design, prototype creation, implementation, testing, and evaluation. The test results show that the system is able to detect the status of empty and occupied parking slots, send data from the ESP32 to the database, and update the website display in an average of 2–3 seconds under stable network conditions. In addition, the system is able to automatically control the barrier based on parking slot availability. Based on the test results, the system achieved an average accuracy of 94.16%. Therefore, the developed smart parking system can be a more effective, efficient, automated, and easily accessible parking monitoring and management solution via the internet.

Abstract

Chronic and cancer-related pain impose substantial global health burdens and contribute to long-term opioid dependence. Image-guided percutaneous ablation and chemical neurolysis have emerged as important alternative option when pharmacologic therapy is insufficient or poorly tolerated, yet evidence remains heterogeneous across indications and techniques. Therefore, this systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and opioid-sparing effects of image-guided ablation and chemical neurolysis in oncologic and non-oncologic pain populations (2015–2025). Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a comprehensive search of major biomedical databases identified studies involving adult patients undergoing image-guided thermal ablation or chemical neurolysis. Major biomedical databases, including PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Science Direct and EuropePMC were searched. Eligible studies included adult populations undergoing image-guided ablation or neurolysis or neuromodulation. Risk of bias was assessed using RoB 2, ROBINS-I, and Joanna Briggs Institute tools. A narrative synthesis was performed. Forty-five studies (24 randomized controlled trials and 21 observational cohorts or case series) were included. Ablative techniques demonstrated clinically meaningful and, in selected indications, durable pain reduction across musculoskeletal and oncologic conditions. Chemical neurolysis showed significant benefit in visceral cancer pain and emerging applicability in selected non-oncologic settings. Across modalities, major procedure-related complications were uncommon, and no consistent procedure-related mortality was reported. Several studies documented reductions in opioid requirements following intervention. Conclusion: Image-guided ablation and neurolytic procedures provide effective pain relief with generally favorable safety profiles across diverse clinical contexts. These interventions may support opioid-sparing strategies and warrant structured integration into multidisciplinary pain management pathways.
