Abstract

Not only philosophy, ethics, and other fields but also ecclesiological life are facing severe challenges from the impact of digital culture, which continues to develop endlessly. This context encourages the church to think further about something new to predict what will happen and how it should take its role. This article offers a diachronic mission approach examining current and future contexts. The church is a missionary whose identity is to present the values of the Kingdom of God for His glory. This research indicates that the development of digital culture will be contrary to the Christian faith. This digital world is a context that God allows to occur to prepare for life in the church; every believer understands the challenges of transhumanists and cyborgs around them.

Abstract

Recognition of God's love and care is not enough through fellowship but also through disasters in life, one of which is crop failure. This research aims to discover and understand the form of God's providence through crop failure disasters based on God's will, which is present in human life. Several theories used by the author include disaster theory, Kosuke Koyama's theology, and theories about God, which several authors have summarized. The research method used by the author is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Qualitative was developed through a literature study sourced from relevant book literature, articles and internet sources. To complete this article, the author used an analysis method in the form of interviews. The research results from this article show that the disaster of crop failure did not occur because of God's hatred but rather as a form of care so that humanity turns to Him and lives in a movement of ecumenical love for others. Based on Kosuke Koyama's theory, it can be concluded that God's intention for the crop failure disaster that occurred in the Sa'dan Tiroallo area was as a form of invitation so that humans have concern in terms of love for their neighbours, as well as a form of warning so that people can spend time communing with God and to repent and turn to God.

Abstract

This research explores true motivation in the context of the growth and development of the modern church by detailing the role of Judas Iscariot as a case study. Through a qualitative and expositional approach, the author analyzes 1 Peter 2:1 to highlight the threats to true motivation and presents the story of Judas as a concrete illustration. The study emphasizes the urgency of maintaining the integrity of motivation in church ministry and provides insights into the risks and implications of incorrect motivation. Findings indicate that aligning motivation with Christian values is crucial to avoid potential risks and threats to church growth. This research details the concepts and implications of incorrect motivation, reminding church ministers to update strategies to address misguided motivations continually. Preserving the purity of heart and behavior is critical to ensuring true motivation in serving God and others.

Abstract

The Lord's word of assurance to Gideon in Judges 6:23 contains three things, namely, "be sure," "do not be afraid," and "you will not die. The two main problems with this verse are, first, that these words of the Lord are in stark contrast to the reality that Gideon faced, which was fearful and desperate, so he doubted the promise. For this reason, it is necessary to investigate God's ultimate motive in giving this assurance. Secondly, the phrase "you shall not die" contradicts the narrative that explains Gideon's death, so it must be described in detail. This problem is precisely and comprehensively explored and researched to explain this verse adequately. Thus, based on the descriptive qualitative research method with a hermeneutic study with a micro-analytical exegesis approach, this study found several things, namely, first, God's guarantee of salvation; second, God's guarantee of not being afraid; and third, God's guarantee of preserving and protecting the life of every believer. This article contributes to scholars, servants of God, and theological activists to better understand the story of Gideon in Judges.

Abstract

This research proposes a contextualized church leadership model based on Batak cultural structures. The main problem studied is that Western leadership styles still dominate current Batak church leadership and church leadership models that are often considered less responsive (adaptive or contextual) to local culture and socio-cultural values, so they are not entirely contextual and relevant to Batak cultural values. This research uses the anthropological model approach of Stephen B. Bevans anthropological model approach to understand Batak culture deeply and formulate a contextualized church leadership model. This research aims to develop a model of Batak church leadership contextual and relevant to the Batak cultural structure. The research method used is qualitative, with a literature study approach. The results showed that the integration of Batak cultural values such as sahala (authority), Dalihan Na Tolu (DNT), Habonaron Do Bona (HdB), and clan philosophy needs to be the basis for a contextualized Batak church leadership model. The Batak church leadership model should prioritize nurturing, service, respect, and togetherness (solidarity) through these cultural values. Integrating Batak cultural values is essential to forming Batak church leadership that remains rooted in local culture but faithful to the heritage of the Christian faith.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate and analyze aspects of mercy reflected in the narrative of Jonah 4, with a particular focus on the comparison between God's mercy and Jonah's mercy. Using a narrative literary approach, this study explores the deeper meanings in the text and details Jonah's response to God's mercy as presented in chapter 4. The research method involves literary analysis and identifying narrative elements that reflect the theme of mercy. The center of attention of this study lies at the beginning of the narrative in Jonah 4, where Jonah shows an upset reaction to God's decision to spare Nineveh. Understanding God's mercy and Jonah's response to it is the main focus of the analysis. The findings show a significant difference between God's mercy, which involves His universal love for all nations, and the lack of mercy shown by Jonah towards the Ninevites. The contribution of the findings lies in a deeper understanding of Jonah's character, the dynamics of the relationship between humanity and divinity, and the theological implications contained in the text of Jonah 4.

Abstract

The research addressed the gap between the theological concept of the new man in Christ and its implementation in everyday Christian life, highlighting the need for a deeper understanding of this concept to address uncertainties and misconceptions among believers. Through a qualitative theological approach, the study explored the subjective meaning of religious beliefs, religious practices, and biblical texts. Findings indicated that the concept of the new man emphasized the importance of spiritual transformation and the embodiment of values of love and truth in Christian life practices. Implications included shifts in self-perception and perceptions of others, conflict resolution, and understanding of true life purposes. The novelty of thought lay in the comprehensive application of the concept of the new man in the text of Colossians 3:5-17, aiming to bring positive impacts to individuals and communities. Thus, understanding and embodying this concept called believers to live in freedom, sanctity, and authentic love.

Abstract

The development of technology has a positive impact, making it easier for humans to do their work. However, in addition to having a positive impact, technology also hurts its users. The rise of cybersex on social media is very dangerous because it is detrimental to many people including Christians. Cybersex can cause sexual urges because of sex offerings on the internet. There are several cybersex practices, including prostitution, harassment, and pornography that show declining moral behaviour in this generation in the digital era.  Efforts are needed to tackle the spread of cybersex and its negative impact on Christian life. That freedom does not negate the responsibility of being a believer. This article will conduct a biblical study of 1 Corinthians 6:12 and relate it to "Christian freedom in the Digital Age. The method used is an exegesis approach. The results of the biblical study of 1 Corinthians 6:12 present an ethical-theological principle: First, everything that is allowed is not necessarily all useful. Second, All is permissible, but do not forget God's authority and His will.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to theologically analyze the mission of Christian bureaucrats in the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of North Toraja Regency. Through qualitative research methods with observation and interview techniques, it was found that the mission of the church in the government bureaucracy has not been visible, not because of the tendency of Christian bureaucrats to see the relationship between church and government in the framework of the third relationship (total separation), but there are still Christian bureaucrats who see it in the framework of the first relationship (state supremacy over the church). In addition, another influencing factor is that their understanding of mission is still traditional and inherits colonial understanding. However, in general, Christian bureaucrats understand that the relationship between church and government should be seen in terms of partnership, but it is not enough to reach the stage of understanding. Therefore, building a critical-prophetic, positive, creative, and realistic partnership between the church and the government through the mission of Christian bureaucrats is one of the church's mission strategies that needs serious attention and focus. It is important that every Christian who is hypostatized into Christ through the church wherever they are, should act in an eucharistic and sacramental way. Thus, the public sphere and the ecclesiastical sphere are intertwined.
