Abstract

Gen. 1:28 presents the three blessings of God to humans in the form procreation, natural subdue and rule over creatures. These three blessings must be placed in the context of human creation as image and likeness of God (Gen. 1:26-27) so that he becomes his co-worker in cultivating nature and pastoring all His creatures (Gen. 1:28). It was on this purpose that God placed humans in the garden of Eden and gave the task of cultivating and maintaining them (Gen. 2:4-8,15). The Sabbath of God, which became a crown of His creative work, was explored as a model for humans to carry out their missionary work (Gen. 2:1-3). As God rests after six days of work, man must know the limits in cultivating nature and mastering other creatures so as to avoid exploitative greed. The catastrophe of the Flood was the impact of the failure of humans to become partners with God and the presence of the figur of Noah reveals symbolically efforts to preserve the environment or care fo the ecology (Gen. 6-9). The ark that Noah made was like a house, a place to protect and care for all living creatures and their existence was threatened with extinction. Gen. 1:26-28; 2:1-3; 2:4-8,15 and Gen. 6-9 inspire us to care about ecology.

Abstract

Populism is an old phenomenon but a new phenomenon that was brought up in power politics. Because it is something new, understanding the phenomenon of populism is also diverse. Some see it as a political movement that threatens constitutional democracy, but there are also those who see it as a movement to rejuvenate democracy. Urbinati, author of the book Me The People. How Populism Transforms Democracy, sees populism as a movement for power. According to her, populism changed the three pillars of modern democracy, namely the people (rakyat), the principle of majority (prinsip mayoritas), and the system of representation (sistem perwakilan) by reinterpreting the three. People are no longer understood as people who have sovereignty but people as masses who are united based on party, religion, ideology, and so on. The principle of majority is no longer understood procedurally to gain power but as control of others. Representation is not understood as an envoy but as ownership, whichis the embodiment of the people who have absolute power over the people. With these three transformations, according to the author, populism is a product of the failure of the malfunctions of party’s democracy

Abstract

The paper presents Foucault’s rich historical analyses on various past historical events which he claimed to be the hidden historical materials. Using the archaeological method, particularly on his early works, he tried to dig out all these facts through various archives to see how people in different historical periods thought about them and took action on them. Through such analyses many people consider him to be a historian. However, he is not an historian understood in the traditional sense of the word, but a specific historian, namely the historian of the present.

Abstract

To the Catholic faithful, the “I” and “You” relationality of Indonesia’s pluralistic society “formulated” in the third principle of Pancasila (Persatuan Indonesia = a unified Indonesia) and in the nation’s motto “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity) can point towards trinitary relationality. Using the critical reading approach to Pancasila and moto Bhineka Tunggal Ika, this study has discovered the four following issues: Firstly, the relationality between “I” and “You” in Indonesian society can point towards the intersubjective relationality of the Trinity. Secondly, the principle of Bhineka Tunggal Ika can point towards the principle of unity in the diversity of the Trinity. Thirdly, the transcendence of “Kami” (We-excluding-You) towards “Kita” (We-including-You) in Indonesian society can point towards the openness of the Trinity to establish unity with humans who are fundamentaly different from God. Fourthly, mutual participation relationality in Indonesian society can point towards the principle of perichoresis of the Trinity.

Abstract

Abstraction : In just a decade, the truth that actually becomes a pillar in a life together turned out to be a lot of coloured falsehood and lies. The practice of manipulating the truth is rife because humans are in the post-truth era, an era where people are busy hiding the truth without making them feel dishonest. This situation is supported by the emergence of digital media which produces a lot of lies without going through the verification process. The claim of truth has been displaced by ‘believability’ and the institutionalization of lies is deliberately carried out to manipulate the truth. As a result the real news is a lie accepted as truth. And conversely the news that actually needs to be accepted as truth is considered a lie. This certainly brings harm to the people who should have the right to receive true news. In this situation, media literacy needs to be done so that people are responsible for promoting and spreading the right news based on the virtue of honesty. It requires hardwork and commitment, not just embrace the right for everyone to speak, but also to hear and listen, to discern which is the truth as best we can, not just for our present, but it will be very valuable for our future.

Abstract

Communion, as expressed fully in Eucharist, for its bond with salvation, is the first and foremost obligation of every member of the faithful. This obligation arises from baptism, as a sacrament which incorporates the faithful into the mystical body of Christ and accompanies the faithful in all their action: the sacramental life, of faith and of relationship with ecclesiastical authority. The Second Vatican Council has placed communion as one of the important ecclesiological paradigms. The process of revision of Code of Canon Law itself is carried out in harmony with the ecclesiological paradigm of the Second Vatican Council. Counted among the visible elements of communion, Canon Law has tried also to translate the conception of communion into juridical language, which contains the rights and obligations of the faithful to endeavor and maintain it. This article has its purpose as an effort to see the relevance of the concept of communion in the Second Vatican Council to the Code of Canon Law promulgated in 1983.

Abstract

Abstract

Injustice, including gender issues, grows out of the abuse of power possessed by the authorities, which in turn results in victims, who are usually groups without power, both socially and theologically. The study in this article will discuss the Book of Judges 11: 1-40 which illustrates the dynamics in the life of Jephthah, who was a victim of society at first but due to the services he provided to Israel, he turned into a leader. But the story also illustrates that at the beginning of his power as a leader, Jephthah became the leader who sacrificed his own daughter; and the most interesting thing here is that all events occur by 'involving' the Spirit of the LORD. Thus the victim cycle produces victims into a clear picture in the judgment of Judges 11: 1-40.
