Abstract

Delving into epistemology, one must recognize the “scientists” behind the revolutionary philosophical perspective of modern science. One of the most well known scientists was Copernicus. He could not indeed be categorized as epistemologist in the strict sense, rather he was a scientist. Yet what he discovered has changed the paradigm of not mere scientific perspective that the helios is the true center of the universe, not the earth, but also of human comprehensive point of philosophical view. When it was the earth that had been believed so long time as the center of the universe, the human being remained the pivotal point of thinking; but once the empiric science of Copernicus observed that it was not the earth, the new paradigm came out. The human being is only a particle of the very huge and sophisticated system of the universe. What would be the center is not as clear as before. The universe itself seems to be the center. This article studys the impact of the Copernican revolution of science to epistemology which in turn changes the human being’s philosophical perspective toward his/her life world.

Abstract

What is life skill education? Why is its curriculum needed? How can life skill education be implemented into practical strategy of learning in our school? These are the fundamental questions that guide the developing thought of this article. To the extent of practical strategy that system of education should bring up students to be masters of their life, life skill education might be worth. Indonesia needs such a model of education. Yet, as one may guess easily, the mentality of Indonesian society is probably the huge challenge to cope when implementing this model. Life skill model of education needs a new perspective of “life”, not just that of “skill.” The article deals with philosophically some systems of life skill curriculum and its actual challenges. In order to transform such a model of education into an apt program in the context of Indonesia, we should be aware of the very close relationship between “being skillful” and “life context” in our system of education.

Abstract

Human belief that leads to view nature and ancestral spirits as gods (natural mythology and animism), and to regard things of magical power (dynamism), cannot indeed be evoided. Even if their religious belief is profound, they still conceive that such a behavior (to believe natural mythology) does not mean polytheism or syirik, because the one God is not denied. Therefore, people can still worship natural things such as plants, idols, mysterious gods, holy persons regardless of they Islamic religious belief. People worship whatever they experience as things extraordinary. But actually in the deep of their heart, they can still distinguish that such a worship is an expression of religious belief or not. Courage to worship the true God is definitely a possibility to be discovered by human being. This article will explore dialectic relationship between religion and culture. Can religion and culture meet and go dialogically together in a socio-anthropological-religious convergence? This is the status questionis of the study.

Abstract

Religious freedom has become a common theme within the context of international affairs. Given the religiously motivated conflicts and tensions taking place in different parts of the World today, it is necessary to reflect on the importance of religious freedom. The Pope John Paul II defended the importance and necessity of respecting religious freedom, for as proclaimed by the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, “the human person has a right to religious freedom”. The Pope believes that respect for religious freedom is a touchstone for the observance of the other fundamental rights, a foundation for peace, a cornerstone of the structure of human rights, and one of the pillars of democratic society. This article intends to explore the Pope’s concept of religious freedom, as articulated in his teachings, including the source and foundation of religious freedom, human’s freedom, the right of religious freedom, the importance of respecting religious freedom for the sake of peace, the role of the government in promoting religious freedom, and how the Church treats other religions.

Abstract

Domestic violence usually happens because of wrong understanding on human dignity and family life. Violence against wife or husband or children is a concrete prove that a couple excludes the essential ends of marriage, which are the good of spouses (bonum coniugum) and the good of offspring (bonum prolis) as mentioned in canon 1055§1 of the Code of Canon Law. Therefore, domestic violence which is occurred from the beginning of marriage, makes the marriage invalid. According to the Code of Canon Law, the parties have a right to process an anullement of their marriage based on domestic violence as caput nullitatis. This article seeks to study the so called KDRT (violence in family) from the perspective of the Canon Law and its implication to possibility of anullement of marriage.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Study of Islam in Germany started from an approach of purely clasical philology. Such approach has been done by analyzing historical and traditional islamic texts as Wellhausen and Noldeke did. Considering some weakness of this approach, new perspective is put forward. This new one is called philological approach “plus”. The advantage of this new approach is that islamic texts are analyzed not only in philological but also sociological point of view. Such analysis has been done by Becker who can be called as pioneer of new study of Islam in Germany. This article is my study on the book of Josef van Ess, From Wellhausen to Becker: The Emergence of Kulturgeschichte in Islamic Studies, who critically views Becker as one of the leading studious person on Islam with new perspectives

Abstract

“Quality of Life is increasingly used in many circles, especially in sociopolitical, medical, philosophical and theological sense, without clarifying the exact meaning, so that often it results in confusion. The Catholic Church especially during the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II (cfr.Evangelium vitae 23) gives a deepened meaning by involving the religious and spiritual dimension of man. So one cannot claim the right to die by invoking quality of life just in sociopolitical or medical sense. According to Pope Pius XII (1957) human life must be preserved, not at any cost with extraordinary means, but wirh ordinary means. In 1980 the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith did not reject that notion, but used and proprosed another term, namely “Proportionate and disproportionate”, since the first one (“Ordinary and extraordinary”) was misunderstandable, especially because of the progress in medical siences and technologies. So there are legitimate limits of therapy.
