Abstract

This study aimed at exploring the impact of utilizing rubric based feedback on developing the EFL writing skills of Saudi high school students. This study recruited 65 students of the second semester of high school students during the academic year 2019. The experimental group consisted of 31 students, who utilized the rubric based feedback during their writing instruction, while the control group comprised 34 students, who were taught in a traditional way in the classroom. Paired t-test revealed that there was a significant difference between mean scores of both the experimental and control group participants favoring the experimental group participants; confirming the positive impact of utilizing rubric based feedback on developing Saudi high school students' writing skills. These findings have provided evidence that the rubric based feedback has effectiveness in developing the writing skills of Saudi high school students

Abstract

This research explored and looked forward to the competencies and objectives of the feasibility of learning designs needed for the post-quarantine era of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, especially in Papua. The research method used in our study is qualitative which focuses on structural analysis to answer problems in the research found through preliminary studies. Our research sites are located in several educational institutions in Papua. The study population was all students at the elementary, junior high, high school and university levels in Papua, Indonesia. We used a sampling method in the form of a purposive sampling technique.  The samples were three academic institutions; SMP N 5 Jayapura, SMA Pembangunan V Yappis, and Universitas Cenderawasih. Research instruments for collecting data were in the form of interview sheets, observation sheets, and questionnaires related to physics learning in the new normal era. The results of the study found that the physics learning design based on local potential in the new normal era can be an alternative for teaching physics concepts contextually. Students can observe the surrounding environment related to local customary culture which is indigenous science and educators represent the report in the form of a connection between the concept of science and local culture.

Abstract

Physics is an important subject taught at the secondary level in Nigeria but the achievement of students in the subject is a concern to science educators. This study investigated the effectiveness of brain-based teaching strategy (BTS) on students’ achievement and score levels on the concept of heat energy. This investigation adopted the pretest, posttest, randomized control group quasi-experimental design. Simple random sampling technique was used to select two schools used for this study. Two research questions were raised to guide the study. Likewise, two null hypotheses were tested for acceptance or otherwise at 0.05 significance level. The sample involved ninety nine senior school students randomly selected from two schools in Ondo, Nigeria. Two instruments were used to gather data with internal consistency of 0.74 using Kuder Richarson Formular 21. The data collected were analysed using mean, t-test and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings from this investigation reveals that brain-based teaching strategy has significant effect on physics students’ achievement and score levels in the concept of heat energy. This study concludes that brain-based teaching strategy should be used to teach heat energy at secondary school level in order to better students’ grades.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment methods, and school and home environment and learning difficulties in English language among students in the elementary stage in Irbid Governorate from the students’ point of view. The study used the descriptive-analytic approach. The sample of the study consisted of (100) male and female students, who teach the fourth and fifth grades, distributed as follows: (50) males and (50) females. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was designed to identify the relationship between curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment methods, and school and home environment and learning difficulties among students in English language. The questionnaire included the following dimensions, curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment methods, and school and home environment. The results of the study revealed that the overall degree for the relationship between curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment methods, and school and home environment to students’ learning difficulties In English language at the primary stage from the students’ point of view was high in all dimensions of study. The study concluded that it is important to identify the importance of curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment methods, and school and home environment for students with LDs and students should be aware of these factors and their role.

Abstract

Indonesia has high potential disasters. It was recorded that more than 1,800 disasters occurred in 2005-2015, of which 78% of the disasters were hydrometeorological (floods, landslides, drought, forest, and land fires). Previous research also stated that the West Kalimantan region has several threats of disasters, such as the threat of floods, landslides, forest fires, which are scattered with a percentage of the area of 82.96%. This study explores students' initial knowledge about their understanding of disaster mitigation in the Kalimantan area. This research is essential because there is no single research data that shows the condition of students' prior knowledge of disaster mitigation in Kalimantan. This research uses a quantitative descriptive approach. Samples were taken using the purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by observation and questionnaires. Data analysis techniques using percentages. Overall, the level of students' knowledge regarding natural disaster mitigation in wetlands was in the moderate category, namely 44.85%. Understanding natural disaster mitigation includes learning, emergency response planning, disaster warning, and resource mobilization. The government alone cannot take all mitigation measures in society. Therefore, disaster education is limited to school students and must also be promoted to families and communities, which is very important for elaborating mitigation knowledge.

Abstract

In the current literary realm, literary texts that present natural destruction events implicitly or explicitly are called apocalyptic literature. The main characteristic of apocalyptic literature is the emergence of characters who have heroic characters. The Kelomang novel written by Qizink La Aziva was chosen because it is one of the novel texts that does not only make the environment the setting, but also makes the environment a part of the story. The story in the Kelomang novel is characterized by apocalyptic. This study aims to find the environmental vision of Saija's character in the Kelomang novel by Qizink La Aziva. This study uses an ecocritical approach to apocalyptic literature. The data source of this research is the text of the Kelomang novel by Qizink La Aziva published by PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama in Jakarta in 2016. The data in this study is a text fragment of the Kelomang novel by Qizink La Aziva which allegedly contains Saija's environmental vision. The result of this research is that Saija has a vision of the environment to save the environment from the increasingly severe impacts of environmental damage, especially in his area, namely Banten.

Abstract

Transferability indicates that learners are able to use their knowledge to solve advanced problems. This study aimed to elaborate in detail the level of transferability both near and  far transferability of junior high school students in solving geometry problems, and to reveal some factors causing errors in doing the transfer test. Geometry in this study covered solid prism and pyramid. This qualitative descriptive study involved as many as 157 Grade VIII students in one of the junior high schools in Sleman Regency, Indonesia. The data were collected through a written test taken by all participants and interviews with 16 students selected based on the category of the transfer test results. This results of the study showed that (1) based on the average test scores, all students acquired fair transferability, (2) based on the near transfer test item, all students could be categorized as having high transferability, (3) based on the far transfer test items, all students could be categorized as having low transferability, (4) The factors that caused student errors were: (i) difficulties in showing information of what is known in the given context of the transfer problem; (ii) difficulties in stating what is asked in the given problems; (iii) difficulties in using conceptual, procedural, and technical knowledge in executing the strategy of solution; (iv) difficulties in drawing correct conclusions. This result of this study have raised concerns regarding the importance of learning strategy that facilitate transferability.
