Abstract

Background: A mismatch between job requirements and individual abilities can lead to reduced performance due to work-related stress. Work stress affects many professions, but nurses at Hospital X experience it most frequently. A national Indonesian survey reported that 50.9% of nurses across the country experienced work stress in 2018. Previous studies have also examined how stress levels among nurses are associated with individual characteristics (such as age, gender, and length of service) and the mental workload they face. Objectives: This study examined which nurse characteristics, combined with their mental workload, influence their work-related stress levels. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional quantitative design to collect data from nurses at Hospital X in August 2025 through the distribution of the NASA-TLX and ENSS questionnaires. A total of 30 nurses participated through purposive sampling. Frequency distribution tables were used for univariate analysis, while chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests were performed for bivariate analysis. Results: The univariate analysis showed that 63.3% of participants were under 29 years old, 90.0% were female, and 53.3% had worked for less than four years. The results also indicated that 56.7% of participants experienced a high mental workload, while 60.0% reported low levels of work stress. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test revealed a significant relationship between mental workload and work stress (p=0.035). However, no significant relationships were found between age and work stress (p=0.266), gender and work stress (p=0.548), or length of service and work stress (p=0.765). Conclusion: This study found that mental workload significantly affects work stress levels among nurses at Hospital X. However, age, gender, and length of service were not found to influence work stress among nurses in this setting.

Abstract

Background: Anemia remains a serious problem among adolescent girls in Indonesia, with the prevalence rate of 32%. Low adherence to iron tablet consumption, especially in Islamic boarding schools, contributes to this problem, as evidenced by 11 cases identified at the target school. Adolescent girls have a significantly high risk of anemia due to low access to health information, lack of nutrition education, and limited support from health workers. Hence, involving peers as health cadres is an effective way to increase iron tablet intake and health-promoting behavior among the students. Objectives: To improve compliance with iron tablet consumption among female students by strengthening the role of cadres, creating a supportive school environment, and contributing to anemia free boarding schools in Banyuwangi Regency. Methods: The activities were conducted through socialization and training under the CEMPAKA (Cermat Pantau Kondisi Anemia) program. The final participants were 50 female students and 15 health cadres. Pre- and post-test questionnaires were used to determine the level of knowledge. Mean differences were calculated using a two-sample t-test with equal variances assumed to test for pre- and post-differences. Results: There was a statistically significant increase in student’s knowledge about anemia and iron tablet consumption (p=0.009, p<0.05). Similarly, cadre’s knowledge improved significantly (p=0.003, p<0.05). However, improvements in communication skills were not statistically significant (p=0.162, p>0.05), though a positive trend was observed, indicating better communication performance after training. topup game royal dream Conclusion: The empowerment of cadres through the CEMPAKA program demonstrated improvements in knowledge about anemia, the importance of consuming iron supplements, and communication skills. A participative intervention such as this will further establish peer cadres as agents of healthy behavioral change in Islamic boarding schools and represents an initial step toward achieving a healthy, anemia-free Islamic boarding school in Banyuwangi Regency. topup rd

Abstract

Background: Pregnancy anemia is one of the most important global problems in public health, and approximately 40% of women suffer from it worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), his condition, is defined as a hemoglobin concentration below 11 g/dL and may compromise both maternal and fetal health. Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the association between macro- and micronutrient adequacy with anemia prevalence in third-trimester pregnant women in the Greater Bandung region. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among 82 third-trimester pregnant women recruited as sample using sampling of Bandung City and Bandung Regency. Structured interviews, 24-hour recall of diet, and measurement of hemoglobin by digital hemoglobinometer were used for data collection. Chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test were performed for statistical analyses. Results: The proportion of anemia in the third trimester pregnant women was about 32.9%. The only significant associations with anemia were observed for insufficient energy (OR=3.892, 95% CI:1.03–14.65; p=0.035) and iron intake (OR=14.213, 95% CI: 0.80–250.96; p=0.013). Protein, fat, carbohydrate, folic acid, vitamin B12, or vitamin C were not significantly associated. Conclusion: Adequacy energy and iron intake were the major factors associated with anemia among pregnant women during the third semester. Tailored dietary counselling and iron supplementation programs are recommended as focused nutritional intervention to decrease anemia-specific deficits. Key limitations include the cross-sectional design and the use of a single 24-hour dietary recall, which may limit causal inference and dietary assessment. Further studies should involve larger sample sizes and longitudinal designs to confirm these findings and provide evidence for maternal nutrition policy.

Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, the number of patients with hypertension continues to increase annually, with a prevalence of 30.8% according to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (Survey Kesehatan Indonesia or SKI). A lack of knowledge means that many patients do not understand the definition, causes, healthy dietary patterns, or potential complications of hypertension. Therefore, nutrition education through communication, information, and education (Komunikasi, Informasi, dan Edukasi or KIE) media should be utilized to improve the knowledge of hypertensive patients. Objectives: This study aims to identify the impact of nutrition education using KIE media on hypertensive patients’ knowledge. Methods: Secondary data were obtained by searching scientific articles in the Google Scholar database published within the last ten years (2015–2025). After screening, eight articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. Results: KIE media on nutrition enhance hypertensive patients' understanding and ability to implement nutritional recommendations by providing accessible and engaging formats, including clear text, audio, visuals, and media such as posters, audiovisual materials, podcasts, leaflets, and blogs. Conclusion: Nutrition education using KIE media is effective in improving hypertensive patients’ knowledge regarding hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Local food production with natural bioactive compounds such as probiotics and prebiotics. Both of them called with a synbiotic product, which is essential for maintaining gut microbiota balance. The inulin in jangklong can support the growth of lactid acid bacteria, while parijoto contributes to the distinct taste and flavor. Objectives: This research aimed to determine the physical characteristics, total lactid acid bacteria, and inulin content of yogurt synbiotic from jangklong and parijoto. Methods: The research design used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single-factor treatment. Jangklong and parijoto juice were used in the study. Three experimental formulations (F1, F2, and F3) were assessed, containing 10%, 20%, and 30% jangklong, respectively, and a constant addition of 0.5% parijoto juice. Results: The results showed that the synbiotic yogurt added with jangklong and parijoto juice significantly affected pH, viscosity, and inulin (p<0.05), but total lactid acid bacteria counts did not differ. The yogurt’s physical characteristics included a pH range of 4.17–4.19 and a viscosity range of 1100–1500 cP. F3 had the highest lactid acid bacteria count (45x105 CFU/ml on day 2), and inulin content varied from 9.6% to 26.1%. Inulin content generally encouraged the growth of lactic acid bacteria, but this effect was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Physical characteristics of the pH and viscosity are in accordance with the SNI yogurt 01.2981:2009 standard, while the overall number of lactic acid bacteria remains below the SNI. Inulin levels differed significantly across the formulas.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is on the rise in Indonesia largely due to dietary habits characterized by a high intake of refined carbohydrates and a low intake of dietary fibre. This situation underscores the need for alternative food products that are not only beneficial in terms of their nutritional content but also acceptable to consumers. Yam (Dioscorea alata) is a locally grown food known to be rich in fibre and has a low glycemic index, making it suitable for development as a functional food ingredient. Wet noodles can be prepared using yams to partially replace wheat flour through the incorporation of yam flour, the sensory properties of which require evaluation. Objectives: This paper sought to test the sensory or organoleptic properties of wet noodles substituted with yam flour as a functional food alternative for patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods: The approach was a true experimental designed with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four ratios of wheat flour and yam flour: P0 (100:0), P1 (70:30), P2 (50:50), and P3 (30:70), each with six repetitions. Organoleptic evaluation was conducted using hedonic and ranking tests that evaluated colour, aroma, taste, and texture involving semi-trained panelists. The Kruskal Wallis test was used to analyse the data. Results: Substitution with yam flour resulted in a significant difference in colour and texture parameters (p<0,05), but no significant difference was found in aroma and taste among formulations. Increasing levels of substitution resulted in gave a darker colour and less elasticity. Nutritional analysis showed that P3 (70% yam flour substitution) exhibited the highest functional value, with the highest fibre content (7.06 g/100 g) and the lowest carbohydrate content (51.26 g/100 g). However, based on the effectiveness index formulation P1 (70% wheat flour:30% yam flour) was found to be the most acceptable based on the ranking test. Conclusion: In wet noodle formulations, substitution of up to 30% yam flour did not negatively affect sensory characteristics and demonstrates the potential to be developed as a functional food alternative for patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a major public health concern in Indonesia, as evidenced by data from the East Java Provincial Health Office showing that 42% of female adolescents in East Java had anemia in 2020, and based on the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) 2023, the national prevalence of anemia among female adolescents is approximately 15.5%. In specific regions, such as East Java, higher localized prevalence rates indicate that targeted nutritional interventions are still critically required. Female adolescents frequently have anemia as a result of insufficient nutritional intake and menstrual blood loss. Both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical methods can be used to treat anemia. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of soy milk (Glycine max L.) and red guava juice (Psidium guajava L.) on hemoglobin levels in anemic female adolescents as a non-pharmacological treatment. Methods: The quantitative study used a true experimental design with a two-group pre-test-post-test protocol. Purposive sampling was used to select 20 respondents, who were then divided into two treatment groups: soy milk and red guava juice. Hemoglobin levels were measured with the Easy Touch GCHb instrument and recorded on observation sheets. Data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test and the independent t-test. Results: Hemoglobin levels increased significantly before and after treatment in both the soy milk group (p=0.000) and the red guava juice group (p=0.004). The independent t-test yielded a p-value of 1.000 (p>0.05), indicating no significant difference between the two treatment groups. Conclusion: The findings show that both soy milk and red guava juice have a similar effect on increasing hemoglobin levels in anemic female adolescents.

Abstract

Background: Hearing loss is one of the health problems among Indonesian workers, with one of the cause being uncontrolled noise exposure. Noise levels in each region of Indonesia vary depending on the number and type of industries in the area. This situation increases the risk of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL), especially among productive workers aged 15–49 who are continuously exposed to noise. Objectives: This study aims to describe the prevalence and analyze the association between noise exposure and hearing loss among workers aged 15–49 years using Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data. Methods: This study employed a descriptive analysis design using Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) and Summary Exposure Value (SEV) data from 32 provinces. Regression analysis was conducted to assess the association between noise exposure and the burden of hearing loss. Results: The study results showed that noise levels and disease burden varied across provinces. The Summary Exposure Value (SEV) for highest noise exposure was observed in Yogyakarta (9.40), followed by North Sulawesi (9.17), and Bali (9.15). The highest Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) were recorded in West Java (109,204.28 per 100,000 population), followed by East Java (85,966.51 per 100,000 population), and Central Java (79,062.85 per 100,000 population). Regression analysis indicated a weak association between noise and hearing loss (R²=0.179). Conclusion: Noise levels in Indonesia vary across provinces, with Yogyakarta, North Sulawesi, and Bali showing the highest levels. This variation is influenced by the type and number of vehicles, noise intensity, and other contributing factors. West Java, East Java, and Central Java have the highest disease burden. However, the weak association between noise exposure and disease burden suggests that hearing loss is not solely caused by noise exposure.

Abstract

Background: The Double Burden of Malnutrition (DBM) remains a major global public health problem, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Children and adolescents increasingly experience undernutrition (such as stunting and micronutrient deficiencies) and are overweight or obese. Poor diets, low nutritional knowledge, and high consumption of ultra-processed foods contribute to this problem. Schools are strategic settings for intervention; however, evidence on the effectiveness of school-based nutrition education remain limited. Objectives: Evaluating the impact of school-based nutrition education interventions on nutrition knowledge among children and adolescents. Method: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted using studies from PubMed and Scopus. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trial or pre-post intervention in school-aged children (9–17 years). Standardized mean differences (SMD) were used to estimate pooled effect. Results: Of the 1,253 studies identified, three studies met the inclusion criteria, with participants from Ghana and Malaysia. Two studies reported an increase in nutrition knowledge, while one study showed no effect. Meta-analysis showed a small but statistically significant increase in the intervention group compared to control group (SMD=0.15; 95% CI: 0.05–0.26; p=0.005), with high heterogeneity (I²=78%). Conclusion: School-based nutrition education interventions have small but significant effects on improving nutrition knowledge in children and adolescents. However, variation across studies and limited evidence suggest the need for more rigorous and comprehensive intervention to assess long-term impact on eating behavior and nutritional status.

Abstract

Background: In elderly individuals, high blood pressure causes hyperglycemia, resulting in insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction. The presence of metabolic disorders, including increased random blood glucose and uric acid levels, results in hypertension among elderly individuals through distinct vascular and metabolic pathways. Objectives: This study examined the effects of random blood glucose and uric acid levels and waist circumference on blood pressure among elderly people at the Bukit Kemuning Inpatient Public Health Center. Methods: A cross-sectional approach was used, and 169 participants were selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments comprised an observation sheet, a GCU 3-in-1 Easy Touch device for measuring uric acid and blood glucose levels, a Minar digital scale that measured body weight with 0.1 kg accuracy, and a calibrated Minar stadiometer that measured height with 1 mm precision. Waist circumference data were obtained from secondary data in the elderly registry. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: Statistical analysis showed significant but weak correlations between waist circumference (p=0.000; r=0.350), uric acid levels (p=0.000; r=0.267), and random blood glucose levels (p=0.001; r=0.257) with blood pressure in the elderly. Conclusion: Waist circumference, uric acid levels, and random blood glucose levels were weakly associated with systolic blood pressure among elderly individuals in the working area of the Bukit Kemuning Inpatient Public Health Center. Therefore, these metabolic factors should be considered in strategies for the prevention and control of hypertension in the elderly population.
