Abstract

This paper aims to report results of research on the association between sociodemographic indicators and teachers’ efforts to help students cope with problems and help build students’ Adversity Quotient. A questionnaire in the form of self-report inventory was distributed to 102 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students of A- and C-accredited primary schools in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Multiple regression and inductive reasoning were used for analysis. FGDs with teachers were conducted in order to explore teachers’ efforts in helping improve students’ adversity quotient. Research results showed that students who were middle child had significantly lower AQ compared to those of first-born or earlier-born child, while sixth-graders had significantly higher AQ scores compared to fourth graders, and children whose fathers were skilled workers had greater odds of having high AQ. Teachers had already done some LEAD sequence, but had not guided students to explore and analyze the problem by themselves. The results have some implications for the education policy to integrate religious teachings into the curriculum that can facilitate the improvement of students’ Adversity Quotient.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: The phenomenon of the outbreak of COVID-19 in various parts of the world has created a global panic that has a tremendous effect on all sides of life. Currently, COVID-19 is still a pandemic in Indonesia. Health appeals and messages circulating to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 have not been fully heeded by the public. Without a strong cultural basis, the change in behaviour is difficult for the community to accept. The social context highlighting descriptive norms for certain types of behaviour caused the command norms to conflict with the highlighted behaviour and dissonance (discomfort) increases. Health messages are designed based on symbols that in Indonesian society may be more effective. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using traditional Indonesian fairy tale symbols in COVID-19 health posters on knowledge, attitudes, and health behaviours related to COVID-19. Methods: A total of 51 respondents aged 18-40 years who registered on the online questionnaire filled a link with the determination of the sample, namely random sampling which measured knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour before and after being given a poster designed using symbols found in traditional fairy tales. This study uses an online pre-test and post-test. Respondents come from various regions in Indonesia. Results: Respondents stated that posters with fairy tale symbols were interesting, not monotonous, and educative. After seeing posters designed using symbols from traditional fairy tales, respondents' knowledge about COVID-19 increased by 102%, attitudes increased by 6%, and behaviour increased by 17%. Conclusion: The use of symbols in traditional fairy tales conveyed through poster media is effectively used to convey health messages to the public during the COVID-19 period. Health messages should be designed using symbols rooted in people's culture such as traditional Indonesian fairy tales.

Abstract

The number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is still on the rise. The government has issued policies to suppress, anticipate, and  break the chain of COVID-19  transmission, including the   5M health protocol. However, the community has not fully adhered to this appeal. Without a strong cultural basis, society may find it difficult to accept behavior change. Conflicting command norms and descriptive norms for certain types of behavior in the social context can cause discomfort. The national health message can be made stronger by incorporating symbols from traditional Indonesian fairy tales. Indonesian society has a strong oral tradition and uses stories, legends, and tales as a method of communicating norms. Incorporating symbols that are deeply rooted in culture will enhance the effectiveness of health messages and help people to quickly understand the new norms for interacting during the COVID-19 pandemic and adhere to health protocols. This study provides a list of potential symbols rooted in culture that can be used by governments, health professionals, and the general public to design strong health messages, including messages about stigma, isolation, vaccination, wearing masks, washing hands, social distancing, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is a widespread health issue that profoundly impacts workers' productivity and quality of life. In addition to non-specific health effects, LBP can result in long-term disability and considerable economic losses. Globally, LBP affects 619 million individuals, with projections suggesting an increase to 843 million by 2050, particularly Low Middle Income Countries (LMICs) in Asia and Africa. The shipbuilding industry, known for its physically strenuous tasks and stringent deadlines, presents unique ergonomic challenges that can exacerbate job-related stress and precipitate the onset of LBP. This study examines Project X PT Y, a pivotal entity in Indonesia's shipbuilding sector. Utilizing a quantitative methodology and a cross-sectional research design, the study encompasses all 26 workers from the welding workshop at Project X PT Y. The analysis, conducted using the Spearman test, reveals a robust monotonic relationship between work-related stress and LBP complaints, indicating that the incidence of LBP increases concomitantly with elevated work stress.
