Abstract

This study aimed to determine the significance of the relationship between metacognitive strategies and students' listening comprehension skills. This research employed a quantitative correlational design. The samples consisted of 12 seventh-semester students selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected using a metacognitive strategy questionnaire and a listening comprehension test adopted from the TOEFL examination. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation technique with the SPSS v19 statistical program. The results of the analysis revealed that the sig. (2-tailed) The value was 0.944, which is greater than the significance level of 0.05, indicating no statistically significant correlation between the two variables. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient (r = 0.113) indicated a very weak relationship between metacognitive strategy use and listening comprehension. Based on these findings, the null hypothesis (H₀) was accepted, and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was rejected. These results suggest that the use of metacognitive strategies alone may not directly influence students' listening comprehension performance in this context. The findings imply that other factors—such as linguistic competence, vocabulary mastery, or the quality of listening instruction—may play a more dominant role. Therefore, it is recommended that future research involve a larger sample size and include additional variables to understand better the complex factors affecting listening comprehension.

Abstract

The field of English Language Teaching (ELT) is rapidly evolving, demanding English teachers to continuously update their competencies in order to meet new pedagogical challenges and expectations. In this dynamic context, professional development cannot be achieved solely through individual effort; rather, it requires collaborative engagement through communities or professional associations where teachers can exchange ideas, share best practices, and receive ongoing support. This small-scale survey research was conducted to explore alternative strategies for professional development, particularly through the role of teacher associations. The participant of this study was a member of the Association of English Language Education Study Programs in Indonesia (APSPBI), selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through an online semi-structured interview and analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The findings revealed that APSPBI regularly organizes a range of academic and professional activities such as workshops, webinars, conferences, and collaborative research initiatives that significantly contribute to the continuous professional growth of ELT practitioners. These activities not only enhance teachers' pedagogical knowledge and classroom practices but also foster networking, innovation, and reflective teaching. The results of this study indicate that APSPBI serves as an effective platform for English teachers seeking sustainable and collaborative professional development. Thus, APSPBI may be considered a viable alternative professional community that supports the advancement of teacher professionalism in the field of ELT, particularly in the Indonesian context. Further studies involving larger samples are recommended to explore the broader impact of teacher associations on instructional quality and student outcomes

Abstract

Student development management is a strategic process aimed at optimally directing, guiding, and developing students' potential, both in academic and non-academic aspects. Well-managed development not only produces high-achieving students but also students with noble character, positive character, and the ability to adapt socially in the environment outside the educational institution. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the urgency of implementing development management in educational institutions as an effort to create students with superior personalities and integrity. The method used is a literature study that reviews various scientific sources, such as journals, books, and educational regulations, relevant to the topic of student development. The results of the study indicate that development management plays an important role in forming positive attitudes towards the learning process, increasing discipline, and strengthening students' character in accordance with expected moral and ethical values. In addition, structured development has been proven to be able to create a conducive learning environment and increase student involvement in academic and non-academic activities. In conclusion, the implementation of effective development management is a key factor in realizing quality education. Therefore, educational institutions need to implement a planned, sustainable development strategy that is oriented towards developing students' character holistically.
